Nigel's Dad

People are aware that some Liverpool had been drinking however every inquiry /report etc. determined that the cause was not drunken Liverpool fans.

Well personally I think they had a lot to do with it. It is the old adage. Being drunk is clearly anti-social and an offence, but in our society it is amongst other things the police's job to protect everyone including drunks from their own stupidity.

The police clearly didn't handle it very well but as posted what Scouser is going to admit it was all partly self inflicted when you have SYP, Thatcher, The Sun, SWFC, MUFC supporters, indeed anyone else to blame?

His dad was the best manager never to manage England, and I have a sneaking feeling that if we let his son get on with the job he was brought in to do, he'll sort things out and take us forward. There may be blips along the way, but I just feel that he and united are a good fit UTB

Being England manager is a death wish - partly due to the 'Red Tops' appealing to the lowest common denominators i.e. those twats who have little flags on their cars when England have the 2-yearly flop in the WC or Euros.

Agree about NC, though. More than many other times, to get relegated this season would fuck up the project that NC has started.

Hillsborough was inevitable. I went in 1976 for the Derby v Man. U Semi and thousands of Man. U fans turned up without tickets - I'd say at least 5k. After an afternoon of incredible hooliganism outside the ground, the cops simply opened the gates and let everybody just pile onto the Kop.

Another time, I went to see Newcastle play at Hillsborough and went with their fans on Leppings Lane. The Geordies were/are utter savages. After the game, I was pressed up against the infavous blue concertina gates in an unbelievable crush. I knew if I went down, I wouldn't be getting up...

No argument from myself mate about the status of an England manager, but at the time Brian was at his peak he was the outstanding candidate, and from all accounts he would've considered the opportunity to take control of the England squad. It's all academic now, but there was a time when it carried some gravity. I think things took a wrong turn the day Revie was appointed as England manager. Not long after to be known as Don 'Readies', Revie was exposed as a man who didn't have the necessary quality for the job. The best I can recall in recent times was the appointment of Venables, but Terry had a way of turning a good situation into something unpleasant.

As for Nigel, all we can do is hope at the moment. We do need a recognised forward, if only to give us that extra dimension up front. We have good attacking intent now, but what's been missing is someone who we look to for that final pass.
