With 4 teams relegated history says we need at least 50 points to be safe.

My forecasts, given a fair rub of the green 're injuries, refs and so on.

Home games:

Brentford 1 point, Bristol 3, Posh 0, Miller's 1, Carlisle 3, Wolves0, Orient3, Stevenge3, Cvtry. 3.

Away.

Gills1,Colch3, M Keynes 0, Preston0, Crawley 1, Swindon3, Oldham1, Tran 3, Vale0,

So I make it 29 points and 58 in total and then onwards and upwards next season as FA cup winners.!!!!

hmmm, 4 points from home games against Brentford and Orient?

Winning at Swindon who have nearly the best home record in the league compared to our dismal away record?

Not convinced by them. Take those 7 away and we will have 51, which will still be enough.

Sorry WF, you need to re-think those results, starting with a win for us on Wednesday night!
COYRAWW!!!

We are going to the wire in my opinon its ust the way it always happens, but with one difference and that is we are not going down, I expect safety to be confirmed in the final month.

I had us down for a total of 49 points. I can't see us getting a victory away from home, and some tough games at home. Hope I'm wrong.

The last 5 seasons, the following points would have kept you in the division:

2013 - 49
2012 - 44
2011 - 48
2010 - 51
2009 - 50

So based on that, we need to aim for a minimum of 51 points.

Who cares?

We have money we will just bribe the football league to stay in the division.

If you look at the number of points the team 5th from bottom had at this stage of the season it tells you something about those figures:

2013 - 30
2012 - 29
2011 - 26
2010 - 31
2009 - 29

I suggest that it's more likely than zero points from Peterborough and Wolves. We shall see.

Surely, based on that, a maximum of 51 points?

Personally, I think we'll require more than 50 points to stay up this season

I thought so before but having looked at the table I think 50 will be enough.

Quite a few teams down there would have to really up their points per game ratio for us to need more than 50.

I never thought I'd see the day when united fans were discussing how many points we'd need to stay in the 3rd division.

Fuck you McCabe

A sad fact of united's demise mate. I happen to think that McCabe has lacked the qualities necessary to push united forward, thus marking him out as a mediocre chairman. His appointments have smacked of desperation, and this has lead to a spiral of poor decision making.....until, that is, Clough took the reins of control. He's the first manager for years that I've felt might impose himself on the club and identify strengths and weaknesses and do something about them. It's disappointing we're where we are, but I've not wavered in my belief that Nigel is the guy to take us forward. Coming into a team so disorganised, with such an apparent lack of quality and belief, was never going to be easy for any manager. But I've liked what he's done, how he's begun to get a grip of things, and especially the signings he's made. The remaining games will determine so much. If we stay up I actually believe that we'll have a chance of negotiating for Brayford to remain, if not then you couldn't blame the guy for looking further afield.

Personally,( and I hope I'm wrong on this) when we stay up,and Nigel starts to get rid rid of the rubbish next year and brings in fresh faces, any modicum of success will put pressure on the prince/ mcCabe to up the ante regarding Stella signings. Cloughy the 'younger' may well find out what a set of weak, yellow livered bunch of board members we've got. Assuming these are the same people that have sanctioned the sale of our better players in the past. Then Nigel may well get the hump and seek pastures new. If the argument is the prince makes all the decisions ( its his money when all said and done) it begs the question why are the board there.

Call me a cock-eyed optimist (whatever one of those is meant to be), but I think the Prince will understand the necessity for backing Nigel. I know it's something that many fans seem to want to sweep under the carpet, but without knowing specifics, it's been estimated that the Prince's outlay so far may be around the £1.5-2million mark, which will include the payoffs for Weir and his staff, so for a struggling club not an insubstantial amount of money. Also, a serious learning curve for the Prince, one that will have contributed to the delay in selecting Clough.

You could probably ask a dozen united supporter's for their thoughts on what the future holds and you'd receive 12 different responses. If, as we've been told, it is the Prince who will fund transfer activity, then we'll soon discover what bond exists between Clough and the Prince. My view is that the Prince hasn't come here for a dalliance, or some kind of curious, non-participatory adventure. As I see it, if we remain in this division, the next moves will be to convince Brayford that he will be part of a winning team, as well as securing at least one forward, ideally two, who are worthy of what looks like an ever improving midfield. Of course there are question marks all over the place, added defensive cover at C/H, another midfielder, and G/K, but first we need to gather points........as for the Board, well no doubt they have a role, just not a very substantial one. fairly optimistic with many of those results which is not necessarily a bad thing as we need to go into all games believing we can get something. but for me orient and cov at home wont be easy. on the away games, I would look to Oldham, tranmere, colchester, Gillingham and crawley to get wins at, not that we will all of them, but we need to play to win all of those. much to do lads, but if we can just carry our fa cup form into the league we'll be fine.

Hope your right itsin, it's just we know what utd are for shooting themselves in the foot. Cloughy is the way forward for me. Just got to hope we back him all the way.

Completely and absolutely agree fella. We've at last got a manager who has backbone, a low tolerance of those who fuck about, and a desire that he expects others to match. Sets his stall high does our Nigel, and so he should. I get the impression he likes to stay at a club from his track record. If we were to lose him then we'd deserve whatever came our way.....but of course that's not going to happen, Nigel is our Captain Kirk and Andy Garner is our Spock, albeit a tubby version.

To paraphrase the good Captain, "One of the advantages of being a Captain is being able to ask for advice without necessarily having to take it"

I think history has shown it's dam near impossible to predict anything in football, a couple of seasons ago we had more than enough points to guarantee promotion, but we're still here.....

2 points ahead of my schedule already, that gives us 60 points!!

My op was an optimistic effort to try to allay fears of relegation.

I estimated 58 points and we are 8.points ahead of schedule. So what do I know?

Indeed what do any of us know, looking at some comments on the thread?

Well done NC and we'll done the players. In fact we'll done KM and the Prince!!

I said we would bribe our way out of it.

Who can say I might not have been right. :)
