Beattie

You also couldn't blame McCabe if he wanted an increase on his reported 40k a week wages..

It's also in stark contrast to the former owner who never let anybody pull his pants down..

Edit: I know it's the agent, but from KMC's point of view that's how it would look..
It's absolutely mental that he didn't pick up the phone and ask James Beattie if it was true that James Beattie wanted more money before selling him and throwing our promotion chances away for a trading loss.

There's no defending it at all.

On the other hand Beattie could've made that call too, but he didn't.

McCabe didn't need to lie about it though, which he blatantly did. Sometimes it's better to say nothing. He openly lied to the fans on Radio Sheffield.

McCabe was good at the sort of thing. This is the same man that cut (or tried to) Stephen Bettis from the clubs payroll without even telling him.

For all the good work he did off the pitch, McCabe did a lot to disrupt the footballing side of the club.

In fairness the Michael Tonge deal was good at the time. He was already in decline and was no longer effective. He didn't have the pace to play on the wing anymore and had Scooby Doo legs whenever he started running. He never tracked back and tackled, leaving Monty or Speed to do everything. I laughed when we sold him as I honest thought we'd ripped Stoke off at £1.85mil or whatever we got for him. He was far from the £8mil player that Liverpool once wanted to sign.

As for other bad deals, Stephen Quinn to Hull was more unforgiveable and another panic sell by McCabe. What did we get for him? £30k or something pathetic like that?

Hull mugged us off for Quinn and Maguire. The Maguire one was pathetic IIRC, we declined their bid and they pulled out, so we went back to them and accepted their offer which we had already declined.

wouldnt surprise me in the slightest. that he sold beattie at the 1st chance he excuse he could muster as alot of players in hindsight got the same treatment. like kenny highly paid, 1st whiff of an excuse to make the footballer the villain he jumped at
