Our turn for a play-off victory?

It's gambler's (i.e. flawed) logic to say it's our turn to win the play offs. There is no such thing

The harsh reality is that we have the worst play off record of any club, with nine failures without a single success - and without even scoring a goal in any of the play off finals we have reached. Whilst it can be argued that past outcomes are irrelevant to this squad/manager, the fact our supporters now hate the playoffs, and attend with a mixture of pessimism and disgust, with no hope and little expectation, cannot help much!

We probably would have been marginal favourites.

We finished two places above them in the final league table.
I recall an horrendous train journey (my wife and I got on at Cheltenham forgetting that the same train had collected in Sheffield and Birmingham) and the mood was not optimistic in the red half.

It feels like a bit of a self-fulfilling prophecy now with Blades and the play offs, at least with the fans - I can’t help feel that the weight of the previous 9 failures weighs heavy on the players too when the fans are already fearing the worst.

There’s no real reason why previous failures should have any impact on future efforts but it does feel like it will.

Couldn't agree more, we will only sell 2/3 of the tickets, I remember the Huddersfield game, even when we were ahead in the shoot out the mood was flat. Our fan base is pessimistic at the best of times (i.e. now - 2nd in the league but everyone moaning) let alone in the play-offs, after failing to finish top two.

…against Wolves ?
Yeah, we’d finished above them plus given the cup exploits we appeared to be the better side.

That said Wolves had a v good squad and we’d staggered over the line in the end. Played 60 odd games that year and the team looked knackered. Add to that the less than ideal preparation of Dean Windass being sent home for doing a shite on a golf course.

We were also favourites against Palace in 97 but the squad spent a week on the piss on the Isle of Man in the run up to the game rather than training.

Losing to Yeovil in the semi was probably our worst "effort".
I remember Chris Morgan taking over the reins at the death but i can't remember why.
Anyone enlighten this pre alzheimers old git?
