Fixtures:

Couldn't care less about the Cup game but hope we put up a "good show".
Peterborough at home
Crewe away
Brentford home

The subsequent series of fixtures get a lot easier and I'll be content with 3 points. I think/ hope we'll manage 4 points or more.
Anything less will leave us in a bad position.Anything more will be a springboard.
What do you think?

As for the JTW, my personal priorities(in order) for NC would be:

1. New left back, sound defensively but with overlapping ability. (Brayford hopefully)
2. Then move Hill to partner Maguire
3. Coady in McGinn's place.
4. New creative central midfielder
5. Lappin and White for versatility.

Last Saturday was a big improvement in activity in players getting into the box and the creation of many promising situations. However Hill rarely got forward to support Murphy. If we are playing two defensive midfielders we definitely need both full backs to get forward. McGinn did push himself forward but his confidence on the ball has gone for the time being. Coady can surely get up and down better than McGinn. I think I'm happy with the strike-force if we can play with more support from midfield, full back etc. Miller would do well playing off Paynter. Of course a new pacey, mobile natural goalscorer on loan would be a boost but maybe not needed and Miller deserves a run before decisions are made for next season.

Whenever I study United's squad I invariably wrestle with the dilemma of Baxter in the 4-4-2 formation as he doesn't naturally fit in there. I always prefer 2 up front but Baxter doesn't really have the pace and mobility to fully perform that role. Back in central midfield he is not the best ball winner or workhorse and is restricted getting forward. Nor is he a wide man. I think he's our best player and would be deadly "in the hole" behind 2 strikers. How can that be achieved?

Agree with all except number 4. I think we need a box to box, physical midfield player similar to Mike Trusson and Bob Booker. Someone who will go beyond Paynter and get us a few goals but will stand his ground, win tackles and impose himself when necessary.

Really don't get this couldn't care less about the cup game stuff. The Villa game will be remembered for years ,a good win against Fulham will ,cup runs are great ,I love the cup. Will you remember the Tranmere game or Brentford ?
Disclaimer- Darren and Silent don't count.

Personally I think Coady can play the box to box midfielder. He has proven he can break forward AND score goals.

If the Brayford and Scougall deals are true, then I would be happy to wait until the end of January to get White. I also think that Craig Davies would add another dimension to our front line and is the type of player who goes on hot streaks.

Surely a priority is a goal scorer? That should be first thing on NC's list.

Still believe out back 4 is as good as you get in this division.

Brayford is an attacking RB Woody.
Dunno if he ( or Mcmahon) can play on the left?

I think Clough has mentioned something about Miller not being fully fit...certainly doesn't look right yet.

If the rumours are true and Scougsll also arrives that'll be another problem!

Guess Clough has his ideas. Just hope we stay up whilst he shapes his squad.

UTB!

I have thought this about Coady myself, he definitely has the fitness levels and work rate anyway.

Cheers Sitters, I'd probably have written that myself if I could've been arsed. I blew the first post of the thead off after the "Couldn't care less about the Cup game " nonesense.

On the way back from Villa we compiled a list of our favourite games, and between the three of us, the only "bog standard" league games that made the list (i.e. not securing promotion, play-offs etc.) were against Leeds/Pigs or the 5-0 against Arse. Cup games were prevalent for all of us, long may it continue.

Jonathan Forte is incoming.

He will be our white knight.
Good God no , rubbish first time around , worse second time , third time lucky ?
I'm just waiting to resign Slew on a free , we pocketed the transfer fee , and we get back a lighting quick forward , with bags of confidence back in the team , who knows the club and what were about .
Or that tall lad that plays up front at forrest could be an option o_O

If results in the games that take place between now and us playing our next league game go something like the below, we're in serious trouble. If we're adrift, the pressure will be huge v Posh. Hopefully they will be a bit kinder.

Cheers Coops - that's cheered me up, no end

If the strongest rumours all come off, we could end up with:-

Long
Brayford Collins Maguire Harris
Flynn Scougall Doyle Murphy
Paynter Davies
Subs:- Howard, Hill, Coady, McGinn, Baxter, Porter, Miller
Squad:- McMahon, Kennedy, Whitehouse, McFadzean, De Girolamo

I'd be happy enough with that.

Best player to fill this role is Elliot Whitehouse,

...actually, thinking on it a bit, hasn't McMahon played right midfield in his time..?
Might work with him covering Brayford bombing on...
