Has anyone any idea how many tickets have been sold so far?

Could we sell out?

I'm a ST holder .....but will be watching the cup game on tv. Hope we win of course - but can't get excited about it. I'll be there against Peterborough and would much rather we win that one.

No and No.

Bought my ticket on Monday and there were wads more available in my usual area than there normally is. I can only conclude that this means all the ST's in that area are giving it a swerve at the minute.

Where is Trigger to suggest some ads in the newspapers ??

Today is the 22nd January, it's the absolute worst time of year for a superfluous football match.

Plus it's on TV.

Bought my ticket on-line just now and there are zillions to choose from. Shame.

By and large, the FA Cup 4th round always comes around on this particular week-end.

I would argue that June is the worst time of year for a superflous football match, primarily on the basis that it's not football season and the game truly would be superflous (or would that then make it the best time to have a superflous match?. Bollocks).

Wouldn't it also depend on who you're not playing?

:D

19k tops. I'm think 16k

I'm gonna watch it on the box due to childcare issues. I blame BT Sport!!!

I was referring to the fact that a lot of people are still feeling the financial burn from Christmas.

IF we had beaten County after the superb win at Villa
IF we had done Bratfud last Satdi when we shoulda
IF we had signed some decent loans / permies in the last two weeks to lift the spirits a little
...... I dare say that we might have had about 5k more than we will get despite it being on no-name TV at an awkward bloody time

IF Norwich had won the replay against Fulham they would have brought more away fans as well - so that might have added around 2k I believe. Fulham are a tin pot club that only get the players they do because they are a London club in a fashionable area and the foreign imports want to be based in London (or at least their bints do)

If I was based in Sheff I would have gone but I agree with Nudders - it's a lot to cough up this side of Crimbo before next payday.

I have BT Broadband but can't be arsed to get the BT Sport add on - there's nowt on it to interest me in the main.
So I will have to find some pub that does it or not go and look on t'interweb for a dodgy feed (in case the feds are listening in) or just rely on BladesPlayer again.

Seemed to me that the pricing said we want season ticket holders there but the rest will have to pay a premium as we're not interested in them (£5 is nothing to a lot on here I know but is to a lot of Blades especially if they have a family to take). Sorry to bring this up again but that approach may pander to a lot of the existing fanbase (season ticket holders who love grabbing discounts) but it won't help grow it. I may relent and go on the day but at the moment I'm planning to go to the pub and watch it on TV. Feel guilty but there we go.

Any price had to be agreed with Fulham and £15 is the guide minimum price for FA Cup Round 3 onwards.

I don't fit into your category, as I'm one of those "discount grabbers" who *also* signed up for the Automatic Cup Scheme (thus also committing to any home cup games as well as league games)... Handily, this means that they've charged me the full £15 instead of £10 which it should have been.

I have genuine sympathy for people who cannot afford to attend, football should be accessible to all. Though a number who fit this category choose to spend a lot more money than I do in other places which they could sacrifice for football... That doesn't mean the club shouldn't reward the loyalty of those that do stump up the cash (often what they also can't really afford) surely?

It's quite interesting to see that season ticket holders think there are too many offers that make buying one almost pointless other than to reserve your seat, yet non-season ticket holders think the season ticket holders are discount grabbers.

Personally, I don't think they could have done any better in terms of pricing against a team two leagues above us given the FA restrictions. It's a shame that it looks like being a small crowd.

I wonder what the price elasticity is for charging an extra £5 for non season ticket holders ?

I think the pricing is fine. A good team playing winning football will bring the fans in - playing around with ticket prices is secondary. We have an average team (and that's being generous) that is struggling to win games - and for many people the cup just isn't a priority at the moment.

I think we could be in danger of over arguing it to prove a particular p.o.v. We had a crap crowd last time we had a good side (Villa) at home in the Cup and even struggled to get half the average crowd when we were in the Prem. We won't be alone in this either.

The only definate conclusion I think you can safely draw is that the FA Cup continues to suffer from lack of general appeal .

Haven't got my ticket yet. Penniless till I can get a few quid in the bank on Friday. I'm assuming if I buy my ticket online and I can't get my seat, I'll still just use my card?

Foxy please don't think i'm having a go at you or most season ticket holders as I'm not.I've no right as I don't know any of you personally. In this thread and others where I've advocated incentified prices for non season ticket holders/new season ticket applicants as against discounted prices for renewing season ticket holders is because I wish Blades to grow their attending fanbase rather than just hold on to those they can. Any business which just tries to keep existing customers to the detriment of attracting new or returning customers will ultimately fail unless they have a product which surpasses the rest. I will always be a Blade but the product in my lifetime has diminished significantly and I know so many who have been either priced out of going or have just lost interest. All i'm saying is it sends a wrong message.

Yep, that's the way it works for me when I have to sit on the South Stand in the early rounds of the cup.

I don't think you're having a go at all, I think it's a difficult one and it's nigh on impossible to get the balance right.

Football in Sheffield is pretty family orientated in terms of who you support, so the fanbase is purely dependent on that in my opinion. People losing interest is more likely to be because we're shite, rather than the ticket prices. We're actually pretty cheap compared to alot of clubs. Student prices are good and we get our fair share coming to watch with us being in the city centre too.

In football, you need to look after the fans that are paying week in week out because it's your hardcore base. You might think that it sends the wrong message in terms of attracting new people, but loyalty is thrown in your face by clubs and supporters everywhere. As someone who has been a ST holder for the majority of his life, if I suddenly found out that I didn't get a discount compared to people who've decided to get one for the first time, I'd be pretty pissed off personally.

Fair play. I was a season ticket holder from about 11 (got a paper round early) to late thirties. For me that was just being a Blade. Then I worked away and stuff and never got one again. Still went home and away as always but if I was working and couldn't get then I didn't feel I was wasting money. As you say it's not easy and whatever the club do will always be wrong to some, myself included

I didn't take it that way :)

It's a delicate balance, some people will only go when it's effectively free (even if they can afford it) and others are happy to pay up to a certain amount.

One thing you absolutely can't do though, is alienate or annoy your current "loyal" customer base.

Hey it's a minefield not alienating ANYBODY I appreciate that. Hopefully I put a view forward for those who don't normally get a voice and I'll leave it at that. Lets just hope it's a good one on Sunday.

Why not reward your loyal fan base that stumps up £400 in advance payment before the current season ends
At the end of the day you pay your money and you take your chance
I have no objection to the £10 deals they do for non season ticket holders when I have effectively paid £18 to watch that match

Nice that you can stump up £400 in advance. You have my admiration ;)

The club allows you to make your commitment and pay monthly via direct debit
Sometimes I can afford to pay it straight away sometimes I have to put it in a card
But you are making that commitment well in advance so what is the problem of the club rewarding you in some way
Fellow ST holders have paid up front probably expecting a promotion push instead we are in a relegation battle
The supporters that pay on the day may not wish to watch the crap that has been served up this season and stay away
the ST holder does not have that option they have already paid their money.
There are many ST holders stay away from early round cup games the discount may entice some of them to attend

Ok but I really wasn't trying to make any adverse sort of point, just that non season ticket holders should be encouraged. I agree that those who put their money up front should get a great deal at the time they do it. However that shouldn't affect one off games not covered by season tickets throughout the season at the detriment of those who don't because they can't afford it or because they work away and more to the point new fans who may become season ticket holders.
