"They had their pants pulled down recently, I think Wilder will have them ready for us"

Hang on, pal, calm down!

Cheers Roy!

“Three Pompey Players were sent off at Bramall Lane in season 1986/7 and Pompey lost that match 1-0”

I vaguely remember that as I was about 12 at the time, I wasn’t at the game but I remember it making headlines all across the country.

I was there a couple of years later however when Pompey had two players sent off against us in 1989 … I also seem to remember them getting two players sent off at Oakwell in one of the seasons in between…. Now either that Pompey side was a bunch of thugs or they had a strange reaction to the coal dust in the South Yorkshire air at the time,

Proper club is Pompey realistic fans mirrors realistic comments. They will play above themselves but our new line up has automatic promotion written all over it and I expect Wilder for the first time this season to name the strongest team and on the bench a 3-0 Blades win is about right

Thanks Roy

Interesting that some think they should treat it like a cup game and rest some players for their more important league games coming up!

I said 3-0 as well, but then again, I said that we would beat Hull :(

Thanks Roy.

I will predict that a good proportion of your readers will be spouting their usual doom & gloom forecast & bigging up Pompy while finding something to slag Wilder/the club off for.

Best city for ale, to hell with football what a ringing endorsement!

It’s a common comment from most fans around the country and to be fair….it’s pretty accurate.
Bramall Lane is always up there as being one of the best away days in the entire country.

We have so many pubs in the city centre…so close to the ground that sell a wide selection of real ales from the numerous local small specialist breweries.
Who needs to go to a beer festival? when you can have similar experience visiting a few pubs in the city centre.

Common sense really.
This is a no pressure match for them where they correctly expect to lose.

They just want to stay up…so their big match is against Cardiff the following Tuesday….their season isn’t defined by losing to us…it’s a free hit for them.

I thought it was just Kevin Ball that was sent off for elbowing John Gannon? Gannon and Ball clashed again when we played at Sunderland in March 1991 and both got the marching orders.

Agree…..if we aren’t beating Portsmouth 2-0 by half time there will be so much bed wetting and abuse in the match thread demanding Wilder is sacked.
Think most of it is saddo attention seekers, mainly kids or Wednesday fans causing trouble trying to put pressure on United.

When you’re big favourites these matches can be psychologically tough, so patience is needed. Thankfully we’ll have a really strong bench, so if it’s 0-0 at half time or even if we’re losing 0-1 at half time, no need to panic because we can bring on talented game changers in the 2nd half.

Seems weird to realise that due to having so many injuries, constant changes in personnel and now so many new players during the January window.
Wilder still doesn’t know what his best starting 11, best formation or most useful tactics are? It’s almost like the season starts afresh.

He has the opposite problem in that he’s spoilt for choice with so many good players sat on the bench. He will need a few weeks to get his players gelling and firing on all cylinders. In a few weeks he won’t have any excuses though and any negative criticism will be more valid.

Surprised by the comment that they’ve not won at our place since 1955!

I remember in the 80’s and 90’s how there was this pattern.

We always seemed to win, even thrash south coast teams like Portsmouth, Plymouth, Southampton and Brighton….when playing at home
But we always seems to lose, sometimes be thrashed when playing these south coast teams away.

Always assumed it must be the longer travelling distance.
Similar to how when English teams used to play Soviet teams in European competition…we used to easily beat them every time in the home leg
But away legs played away in Russia were always tough for the English teams.

Agree to not lose since 1955 must be one of our longest runs of being undefeated.

Yeah you may be right and l misremembered.. one sent off but they had two late penalties awarded against them that won us the game. I know they kicked Deane and Agana from pillar to post that night and Dave Bassett said afterwards that Deano had to stop being so nice and get a bit of John Fashanu about him.

Business end of the season now.

No more Hull City games allowed.

Has to be a professional and comprehensive home win to placate the frustration of the last home game and to push Burnley down to third and show that despite them never conceding, you don’t go up with so many draws.

Hopefully Holding starts instead of Robbo and is a phenom. The central defence needs to get to the level of paucity when Souttar was in it.

Surely not !
