James McAtee

I always thought instead of shitting the bed with all those nonsense signings we should have just given him the Ndiaye role off McBurnie. We could have just added some more muscle in midfield and maybe we wouldn’t have been pumped so regularly.

Very talented player, but in an area where we don't exactly need reinforcement right now.

Via the likes of Hamer, O'Hare, JRS, Brooks, Campbell, and perhaps the returning Tom Davies, we have an abundance of players capable of filling the 2 positions McAtee would most likely occupy - RW, and CAM

He could provide greater cover on the left, but the way we've lined up all season in our default formation, suggests that Wilder would much prefer to bring in someone right-footed who would play on that side.

The fact that on Sunday we will be starting with Gilchrist and JLT as our centre back partnership, makes it obvious that that position requires prioritising, and another striker wouldn't go amiss either.

Were we in a position to pursue McAtee after addressing the areas of the pitch we are short in, I'd be all for it. But I don't think we should be considering him as an option straight off the bat.

Wilder pretty much froze him out. Don't think he rates him and not sure he would want to come back anyway

Great player and if we could afford him (and if he would come) then he would be an asset to anyone in this division. But I think there’s only so many times you should go back to the same place (for both sides). I imagine a Prem club will take him anyway.

Only caveat to that would be if Palace recalled JRS. But it (hopefully) doesn’t seem to be on the cards.

I'm sure he still has a soft spot for the club, but I can't see it happen at this point. He's not going to go back to the Championship.

In case of promotion and if the club shows some real ambition next summer there might be a chance, but otherwise as others have mentioned he'll join another Premier League club.

I do think the writing's on the wall for him at Manchester City though. Guardiola doesn't seem to trust him and they'll probably rather buy another player than give McAtee a chance once DeBruyne is finally gone.

West Ham and Palace interested apparently. It would be ideal if he went to Palace so that the chances of Rak-Sakyi staying for the season would be higher.
Palace manager already said he's staying with us for the seasons and not recalling him.

Yeah, I’ve seen that. But a few injuries could change his mind or he could get sacked.

Another signing would be a little more insurance.

But that has to be a couple of crazy weeks from now until 8th of January? But my understanding is that after the first week in January they can't recall him?

Anything is possible i suppose, we have been burnt by this before (walker) where redknapp shafted us with every intention.

My thinking is that we aren’t going to be able to spend £20m on McAtee this coming window and the only club he could go to which would be a small benefit to us is Palace.

I'd be very surprised if Mcatee wanted another season with us in the premier league!

He's left footed, so in this formation is strictly chained to only being allowed to play on the right wing.

Agreed, even though he's a talented and popular lad who clearly loved it here - he's just not what need

A few weeks later and this post hasn't aged well. O'Hare's stats are mediocre, JRS and Brooks have been off the boil for yonks, Hamer is (annoyingly) our only option on the left currently so he won't be playing on the right any time soon.

I'd have McAtee back in a heartbeat.

mcatee blinds o'hare and rak-saki quality wise who have both for me been big underachievers after both came with glowing references

We won’t get McAtee back im afraid at least not in the championship he’s got absolutely nothing left to prove at this level. There are other City players who might be worth a look though a very ambitious one would be Oscar Bobb if he’s due back from injury quite soon he could be one who they want to get minutes to as he recovers to get him back up to speed for next season or much attainable but having a good season for their 21’s is Farid Alfa-Ruprecht who’s playing wide right for them and has 5 goals and 3 assists in 9 for their 21’s and is floating around the edges of the first team

thats a very ambitious shout yogi and got a feeling bobb will be part of peps matchday squad when fit having said all that we seem to have a decent relationship with city so who knows could be an outside shot with city being out of the title race

We are in 1st place, it's not like he'd be joining play-off hopefuls. I'd hope that would count for something.

We’re an attractive prospect for loanees but aside from his undoubted affection for the club neither he or City gets much out of him dropping to the championship when he could play top level football on loan either domestically or abroad unless we’re in the prem it’ll be about finding the next McAtee

He’s definitely in City’s plans it’s just whether or not they’d want to get him game time to aid his recovery ahead of next season or if they want to handle his recovery in house. We’ve shown we’re willing to be ambitious with loanees from City McAtee was an ambitious pursuit and so was Palmer if our moan interest was legit which I think it was

Get the impression he's going to be leaving City, Forest interested but seems Leverkusen are front runners, classic manager line trotted out "I wont stand in his way"
Good luck to him, and potentially a sensible move. He will mature in all aspects over there. Wouldn't have enjoyed playing with Gibbs-White at the Scabs.
