All you young uns think we've had a better all round striker than Deane in the last 40 years watch these. Billy and Edwards were brilliant finishers. Beattie illy were class but Deane could do it all and frequently had to. As a partnership with Agana nothing else comes close.
He'd be the perfect CF for this current team. Except he'd be in the Premier League so we wouldn't have him

Facts!

I know it was against us but the position of this free kick seems closer to the half way line. The camera has to fully pan out before you can see the edge of our box.

You can actually work it out from the mow lines on the pitch. It's bang on 42 yards which is fucking ridiculous. It was a great strike.

I always say it's the best goal I've seen scored at the Lane against us, though the Cantona chip runs it close.

Same season as Deano, Glyn Hodges hit the underside of the bar from the halfway line. I think it was against Arsenal. It would have been a better goal than Deano's I reckon!
Hodges used to hit a flatter ball without as much loft. His corner were like that to. If he had put more loft on that one it would've gone in

Reght shot by Hamer had that gone in it would be up there with the greatest goals ever scored at Bramall Lane. against Currie and Woodward scored some beauties. Browns against Wendy superb volley high up off the pitch is up there as well.

Some absolute belters on this thread. I remain gutted though that Gunn just got back in time. That would have been an all-time great from Hamer if the keeper had been half a yard further up the pitch when he hit it. From the kop I thought it was sailing over until the very last second. So so close to something we'd have talked about for years :(

Imagine what a prime Brian Deane would be worth in todays market! he had it all, powerful, strong in the air, great with his feet could finish from anywhere, in my eyes the best in my 40 years watching the Blades

Was at both that Saints game and the Notts County game, that 91/92 season was amazing, we finished 9th and if the board would've had a bit about them we could have pushed on and been an established top flight club.
We went to Meadow Lane, there were thousands from Sheffield on that big open terrace. I might be wrong but we were dogshit first half then brilliant in the 2nd. I think all the goals were at the wrong end, which was a shame. Warnock was the County manager, think it was a night game. Strangely the reverse fixture was the same scoreline and goal sequence, we scored first when Agana punched the ball in.

I went to two matches that day with my Norwich supporting mate. Wendy v Norwich and then just made the kick off at Meadow Lane

Had Deane played for a top 6 club , he would have got ten times as many England caps .

Agree…….the thing that made me angry was how the media always described Deane as this “big powerful” lump of a striker.
When his weakness was he wasn’t aggressive enough and didn’t use his size as well and he should have.
Remember Bassett making a comment about it too about he needs to learn the nasty side and be more aggressive.

Deane was a big softy…who looked a bit ungainly but was surprisingly skilful and had a really good all round game, was fantastic at crossing.

He was aggressive at meadow lane once!!

Had it gone in would obviously have gone down in Blades best goals history. Gunn pulled off an amazing save.

Memories of Deane vs Liverpool from 1990 which is probably the longest goal we've ever scored? Deadbat correct me.

Hopefully the attachments work. Deane's goal is about 30 seconds into the clip. I was on the kop that day 😊

Although Deano’s great goal was ably assisted by Bruce Grobbelaar, who bizarrely found himself playing at the left side of midfield.
