Not if Southampton won’t accept our deal. They’ll drag it out until the end of the window in the hope that someone comes in that he’ll agree to, or make it clear to him if he doesn’t move he’ll be with the kids until the summer.
They’re not going to bend over and just take it are they?

And if nobody does come in and take him? You’re saying they’d rather pay another 6 months of salary for a player who doesn’t want to be there (apparently), than send him out on loan to his preferred club (apparently) all because we won’t meet an obligation to buy (apparently)?

No, I’m saying they’ll drag it out until the end of the window if we don’t agree and he won’t sign for another club and yes I think they’re in a position to just keep him if that’s what they decide to do. They certainly do that easier than we could do without him. This ends this week when we shit the bed and agree to pay up.

Are you going to address your “done deal” comments? Why did you quote me when claiming that was said?

To reiterate to everyone in here that clearly it is not a done deal.

Rumours are rumours and no issues.

People continuously just making shit up with neither evidence nor thought is what sets rumours apart from BS.

There is an insufferable amount of BS in this thread.

That’s the nature of threads in the rumour mill, some genuine ITK with guess work and bull shit mixed in.

If you can’t handle that, I suggest you stick to general blades chat and wait for the confirmed threads to be moved over.

Please point me to the genuine ITK

Nothing to do with owners they aren’t the outliers here, we’ve been slow to the punch a number of times the system not necessarily the staff behind recruitment needs to be looked at. We go on about flirting with these targets in mind months in advance, then all of a sudden “it’s a difficult window to work” “things change” “failed medical” just get it done. Others seem to, even with free agents.
According to you it has nothing to do with the owners! If this means SUFC owners, of course it does. They agree to sign the cheque, and buy or loan the player!
If the club is slow to act, that is completely different,

Burney strengthened already

Sunderland strengthened already and looking to add more

Leeds already have strong squad good enough for promotion but will likely add 1 or 2

Stand still and WE WILL go backwards.

New owners really need to show some desire.
Rush the deal through and get ripped off? I’d rather not. There’s 3 weeks left of the window & BBD isn’t the only good LW in the world.

None of us have any idea what Southampton are asking for. It could be a case of the board willing to fund it but Wilder/ Bettis seeing the fact we’re getting ripped off.

It could also be a case that all of this paper talk is rubbish and Southampton just can’t him in their squad for their FA cup game

Big clue as to the liklihood of BBD leaving Saints anytime soon will be evident around 3.30 this afternoon. He would have been a stitch on to start in the Cup squad.

Why is it, regardless of who owns us our incomings are always sooooo slow. 12 days in and nothing even close despite all the chatter
Because unless we’ve hired additional members of none footballing staff that we haven’t announced we still have the same structure in place that we’ve had for years. That being Bettis being responsible for running the footballing and business side of the club simultaneously and us bringing in Carl Schieber part time during transfer windows to help negotiate deals. We also might have brought in other outside consultants in recent years to help out as well. Whilst obviously that’s better than just leaving it all to Bettis it’s not going to be as efficient as having staff do that job on a permanent basis in house.

Is this gonna be a deal we spend all window trying to do instead of moving on to plan B, assuming we have a plan B? And are we still working on one deal at a time?

Always same with us we put all our eggs in one basket, there never seems to be a plan b,c and so on. It’s one player or nothing.

Wilder has been a manager for 24 years! The scouts and recruitment team will also have been doing their jobs for years. I’d like to think with all the experience they have, they’d have an idea of what they are doing by now.

You seriously believe that they have only one player for each position on their list of potential targets?

Wards and bertieblade both seem credible to me, they’ve been members on this forum long enough that I don’t reckon they’d just start making shit up for attention.
I'm far from a proper ITKer (not sure I'd ever want to be!) but our head of recruitment passed on that 'it was all agreed' for BBD to come back, that was before the WBA game.

Evidently the goalposts may have shifted slightly and understand that's very common in the football world. Could just be Southampton trying to wangle a few more quid from us.

Can only go on what I was told at the time.

Pretty much yes, remember an interview with the prince when he said, Wilder only wanted Ramsdale he was the only keeper on the list
Same with Brewster it was him or nobody.

In the interview with Radio Sheffield a fortnight or so ago he mentions that Wilder can get tunnel vision on targets and has pleaded with him to give him a list of more than one!

I look at it like this.

We are told Campbell and Moore will both be back for Norwich. If that is true…and we have heard Wilder say things like this before to keep opponents guessing then we have the front two that got us to the top of the league a few weeks back.
Hamer and OHare are fit, JRS said to be back to so there is no pressure it seems for BBD to come in.

Therefore this arrival is a “nice to have” to improve a less than fluid front line. Therefore not urgent and so is being treated that was while we look at where we really are desperate.
I reckon BBD will arrive, but it will be on our terms given the player seems to favour us over other clubs following that loan this time last year. And that’s the delay.
Saints are trying their luck to get more out of us with the new owners in etc, but the main negotiating team hasn’t changed and I’m under no illusions that just because new owners have arrived we will suddenly change our stance when it comes to parting with money for transfers.

I just think we’ve parked the deal to wait for someone to crack first, be it Southampton or the player (give up some of his severance package) while we do our other business for areas we really need like a CB and a midfielder.

Yes, those are his first choices, but I refuse to believe that they don’t have other options.

What if a transfer target gets injured in training and is out for the season? Are you suggesting they only start looking for alternatives after that news breaks?

Which in reality may well be Wilder having mothers on the list but not telling the owner as he knew he’d be looking for the cheapest option and dragging the process on.

That’s probably more a tactic to get the player he wants rather than not having alternatives.

If he goes to the owner with 4 or 5 options the likelihood of getting the best and most expensive player decreases.

Totally get that these things can take a bit of time, Southampton shopping around for the best deal etc.

However this has been mooted for a couple of months, with the assumption being it had been agreed with club and player well in advance of the window.

Am starting to shift from accepting that we have to wait, to wondering if the deal fits both clubs, and the player (who has likely known he’s needing to move for a little while now), it probably should have happened by now.

Shirley Des Taylor will be the difference from Wilder making the same stubborn errors in the transfer market. If not there’s alway Sean Dyche

Wilder said not many if any will be able to do 90 mins and will be a gradual build up.

Long story short, we could have really done with extra bodies brought in BEFORE Norwich game.

There’s still 5 1/2 days including today. It feels unlikely at the moment but let’s just see what develops, hopefully we’ll be able to get one or two in before then.

Yeah I think you have to read between the lines from whatever CW says and whatever PA told us - there's almost certainly a list of targets but as others have said, it's likely that CW pushes ridiculously far for his number one (possibly detriment to getting someone else through the door a bit sooner, leaving us in a pickle sometimes).

Be interesting to see how the new guys handle it all.
