Eh up, ducks. Not been around for a while as I lost the love a little bit so I hope you're all well and have had good 2013s and Christmasses :)

As we're back where I started supporting The Blades (3rd tier) and I hear more and more about the desire to turn up rough diamonds like Harry was so adept at, has anybody mentioned the lads Lee Gregory and Dan Gardner at Halifax? I work with a Town fan and he bangs on about them regularly and most of the time I just take the piss but having seen quite a bit of footage of them, they look head and shoulders above that standard. It's not just looking at their record and blindly thinking they could cut it a couple of levels above, they look like genuine talents - athletic, pacey, strong, skillful. Halifax are doing well but as far as I know wouldn't be promoted as their stadium isn't up to scratch and I can see someone taking a punt on these two in particular.

Anybody else seen anything of them?

They sound to me more like players to give trials to during pre season, we need someone already proven at this level or higher.

Fair comment, I was just getting a bit nostalgic thinking about Bassett taking punts on unknowns and I also think someone will snap these lads up before time. That said, if they're worth looking at I'm sure our scouts know about them especially with the Ironside link. I don't feel there's enough gambles in football anymore when it comes to chancing raw talent, that's all.

I reckon our scouts may already know like you said with Ironside being there (scoring goals as well surprisingly).

I remember Lee Gregory a few years ago. He was going out with a lady (I dont think they are together anymore) whose family (all Blades) live 4 doors away from me

He's been linked with a move to MK Dons today.

He actually started with United, was released by us at around 14. I used to go to school with him and was in the same United side for the 1 game I played against Blackpool as an U13.

Same time as Matt Lowton, Kyle Naughton?

Not surprising at all really. There's no doubting he's a talented lad. Just extremely limited chances at SUFC

He's bagged 2 in 10 at conference level. This does not suggest talent in abundance (Not enough for league 1 anyway)

Dan Gardner signed for Chesterfield and apparently QPR & Leicester looking at Lee Gregory.

Think the Clough's are on the ball re: non-league talent.
