Just Just had a txt from a Huddersfield fan that we are after him

Good choice if true.
Brave, has ability, and only 30!thought his days were nearly up!
Deffo go for this one.Give us some ariel threat from set pieces too.

League 1 probably his standard now. 85 or so goals at one in four in higher leagues.

I'm really not sure if he is the best we can get. Oh to find another inexpensive rough diamond like Deano !

He is the type of player Clough likes to lead the line. One of these deals must be true as Taylor has now gone and King surely will be next

I never thought he should have been sold in the first place - Blackwell got his and Hulse's sales badly wrong in my opinion.

Huddersfield have been told to trim their wage bill, I think he lives in the Penistone area, probably a mate of Morgs.

Providing wages aren't an issue, I can see this happening

Would have him in a shot. Massively underrated during his time at the Lane.

Is this a joke? If he has declined that badly I hope this doesn't happen.

In terms of goalscoring I don't think he will. Stead has never been prolific, he may however create more chances for others than Porter would but if either of them played every game between now and the end of the season I bet neither would score more than 6 or 7 goals.

Don't get me wrong, I would take Stead over Porter in a heartbeat but we need a centre forward capable of banging in 12-15 goals between now and the end of the season.

Good God, why is it every transfer window we seem to be wanting to sign players who used to play for us and left for pastures new. Sure Steads a decent player but lets look to bring in fresh faces. Like those clamouring for the return of Blackman, never really impressed me that much and hardly a prolific goalscorer, let'em go, they're in the past. At least no one has mentioned Tonge, Brownie etc this transfer window, YET !.......

I was gutted when we first signed him; what are we doing with 24/25 year old journeyman I thought. Much like Kazim-Richards.

When he left, I echo the sentiments of many Blades at the time, a massively underrated player for us. Will always fondly remember his bravery vs. Wigan.

Another returning hero. Such imagination.......

Out of curiosity, if we were to approach Kyle Naughton about a return to the club, would you dismiss this as 'returning hero syndrome'?

Or is it in fact possible to judge each former player on his individual merits and our requirements at a given time?

Where's Pragmatic Blade when you need him...

Always liked him. Hard working, brave and runs the channels. Knows where the net is as well if he has the right service.

My only reservation has already been pointed out on here. He tends to get comfortable and his form dips after a year or so.

thought I made it clear in my post that I was just passing on a message from a mate who supports Huddersfield town

I am not susuggesting we sign him or anyone else for that matter

As for lacking imagination , who exactly ? Me for passing on a message? My mate for passing it on to me ? Or nigel Clough for thinking of signing a centre forward who once played for sufc ?

I liked Stead but in reality will he offer any more than Porter...?
If you chopped off his arms and legs he'd still offer more than Porter.

Stead is a good player at this level, but it's not really a long term solution in my book.

No to Jon Stead for me. Would give everything but I don't think he can consistently deliver goals every week.

Has to be better on the market around especially when we are supposed to have the money to persuade players away from clubs.

We are currently linked with any number of strikers yet, here in parochial s2, where we don't look any further than the end of our nose, we become ecstatic at the thought of eternal bench-sitter Stead. Is it his 20 goals in 3 years at Bristol City that excites so much? Or his 1 in 11 games at Huddersfield?

As for Blackman his 7 year career to date has yielded, wait for it.......28 goals, including quite a few from the penalty spot. I understand he is regarded as something of a no-hoper by Reading fans?

They are NOT the sort of players we want. They are nowhere near good enough.

I don't want anyone "back". It's never the same. Not that either of this prolific pair set the pulse racing in the first place.

Every transfer window we have it - rumours and expressions of hope that we bring X or Y "back". Is that really the limit of your ambition? Jon Stead or Nick Blackman? Complete mediocrities - and that's generous.

For me, it's yet another cause for embarrassment.

What are we looking for in this transfer window as a club?

Players to cement our mid table position this season and be jettisoned come some rebuilding in the summer? If so, then OK, Stead would possibly fit the bill. However, I would expect incomings in this bracket to have played under NC before and be trusted by him.

Players to be put in place for a major promotion push NEXT season? I'd be looking elsewhere for sure.

Permanent transfers should be in the 20-23 age group, with a smattering of potential but able to play a part straight away. Not possibles for the "development" squad as they seem to dissappear, not ageing (and 30 is ageing for a striker, Arse sold Thierry Henry at 29 and he never looked the same again!) journeymen who fill out the squad and have no re-sale value.
