Delighted with the result today.

A look at our form shows that we have a real chance of getting into mid table by the New Year with us now joining a large bunch of clubs where the points spread is minimal.

The Clough appointment could be a masterstroke, coupled with the 'investment' the only thing we need is players and particularly a goal scorer.

What always concerns me about United thoiugh is that they win narrow and on occasions lose heavy (Win 1-0, lose 0-2 or 0-3) thus creating a negative goal difference.

With stonking wins for Carlisle and Notts County when are we going to thump somebody for once?

Overall its good news. Coming together nicely.

'Strictly come Cloughie!'

Both Weir and Clough/Morgan have now had 10 games with the same players:

Weir: 5 points
Clough/Morgan 15 points

If we include cup games the records are:

Weir P13 W1 D3 L9
Clough/Morgan P12 W6 D3 L3

Does anyone still think Weir should have been given more time?

Clough is moulding us into a tough to beat side for sure.

The defence also seems to be getting sorted.

We still desperatley need a goal scorer.

King was supposed to be that guy.

The faults are all too plain to see. No skill in midfield, very poor distribution from midfield, usually the ball ends with George after a midfielder gets it. Porter is not a striker, and nor is there one goalscorer at the club. That said the teamwork was good today, with plenty of chances and a deserved victory.

True enough, but I'm relieved that Clough has us playing to our strengths, even if they're limited. That will be enough for this season's purposes.

We deserved to win today. They were dire and were time wasting constantly until we scored. Having said that, our lack of quality and inability to do simple things was still evident. We desperately need to strengthen.
Yes, Swindon were poor. Their manager is another limited "play football in the right way bollocks" manager. I was confident that they wouldnt equalise with their tippy tappy football (even they carried on like this in the last 5 minutes) and lacking any punch up front. I was disappointed with our sloppy passes especially from Long (his attempted pass to McMahon was dreadful), White, Harry and Baxter (first half only and he passed a lot better in the second half)

There is always a missing piece :tumbleweed:

A striker. Someone who can hold it up AND shoot.

I think the Striker problem is much more pressing than the midfield one.

Porters inclusion is just indicative of how desperately short of a target man we are, if he's anywhere near the first team come February, I'll have Nigel Clough sectioned.

It'll be interesting to see at what standard he plays after he's released? I'm thinking the Porter family may be settling in Scotland.

Only in S2 would the notion of playing the right way be described as 'bollocks'.

Pathetic.

I thought today was about par for the season so far, passed off the park by Swindon in the first half who luckily, lacked a cutting edge. I thought the lad Luongo was the best player on the pitch until he faded later on. The first half performance was particularly Weiresque. George although having little to do was average, his distribution was poor and his attempt to go for the ball which came out of the sky would have made Simmo proud. Porter again put in a shift but was very poor today and hardly touched the ball.

Having got the negatives out the way, we were far better in the second half and actually began to show some kind of cutting edge (especially when the bad lad came on second half). Baxter is now beginning to show the sort of form that we hoped for when we signed him. There is still a long way to go, but I can't help feeling we would have lost this match under DW. Starting to get seriously impressed with the way Cloughy is starting to get us to move in the right direction, believe we have found the right man at last

Nigel's doing a great job. Watch the Hoofers turn on him, though, when he converts us, as he undoubtedly will over the next 18 months, into a proper football team, playing the right way.

But srsly, great result today. Plenty of room for improvement, but any side getting 5 points against Walsall, Swindon and Leyton Orient this season is bound for good things.

Today's line up was a lot more attacking than the last few. We had full backs who are capable of contributing offensively, wide men who were actually both wide men and a central midfielder (Coady) who's got it in him to get forward. (Not sure to which extent they did these things, but the attributes were there)

The choice between Baxter and Miller at the moment may be based on form and training performances, but it may also be the case that Clough looks at each game and tries to imagine where we will find more space. Miller is more suited to exploiting space behind a defence; Baxter will look to find space between the opposition's defence and midfield.

we won , which is nice , and things are improving, however the quality is more 7th to 14th place than 3rd to 6th which is the best we can hope for , but should be our current aim, to achieve that we will have to improve on what we have, we are playing as a side better , but its like weve put a pair of tights to run the engine until we get a proper fan belt , they are doing a job , but wont get the top performance out of it

Who knows the mysteries of the chocolate orange.

Fragile team. fragile squad. Without wanted to disrupt the improvement, i still
think several need to be weeded out asap.
And surprisingly from me i don't mean Porter.
He can go, i don't care. But he's ok to have around.
He's a good honest lad, even if he wears toblerones for boots.
Plenty others do need to go though.

In the exact same way as Clough should have been given more time at Derby you mean ? ;)

McLaren is benefiting in the EXACT same was as Clough, is in so far as inheriting the nucleus of a competitive squad at the respective levels, assembled by the previous bloke, with neither having any significant input (As yet) on the quality or depth of the squad. Simples.

We owe Mr Weir an awful lot more than many would accept right now.

There is a bit of a difference. Derby did actually manage to win a few games when Clough was in charge. We couldn't even beat fourth division opposition after 3 attempts at it (two being at home), let alone beat anyone in our own division.

I think you have got it the wrong way round. The squad is benefitting (so far) from Mr Clough's presence, rather than vice versa.

Yeah right. Under Weir we played the most negative, boring, mind-numbing football I've seen since I started watching the Blades in the mid-70s. You'd have thought we were playing Barcelona every week the way he set the team up. Hopeless.

There is no 'right' way to play,it's simply scoring more goals than your opponents and getting 3 points.
We need a good, strong target man desperately in the JTW,then we have the option of hoofing it up to him also :)
