My general XG posts have raised questions around our superb defence and the contribution of Cooper, so I thought I’d try to provide a simple summary.

Without the deduction we would have 47 points.

XG data says we would typically have 34 points.

We score about exactly to our XG, but we have conceded about 9 goals less than our XGAgainst.

So those 9.2 goals prevented can be taken to have gained us 13 points.

Cooper has personally prevented 5.6 goals more than statistically expected, so Cooper alone can be said to have generated 8 of those 13 extra points.

The stats have a clear conclusion:-

With Michael Cooper we are an automatic promotion team.

With an average Keeper we would have 8 points less and be a lower half (4th-6th) playoff team.

UTB & Slava Ukraini!

Great post for those who don’t understand XG Graphman.

Your last 2 sentences say all you need to know from XG about Cooper - he is already worth 8 points more than an average Keeper!

Having watched Spurs v Man U the other night and other prem howlers from these keepers I'm dreading January coming.
They will be after Cooper for big money.

Without doubt, he would hold down a regular spot in a Premier League team.

He’s been superb for us.

We can tell all that without stats. Just watch him. He's great.

Great post, but I can’t help but miss the times before all this xG bollocks. Either the ball goes in the net or it doesn’t

To be fair both those keepers were rusty second choices in a league cup game.

With that said Cooper is class and we'll do well to hold onto him

Forster had had an absolute mare recently....The cole palmer penalty made him look an absolute donkey ...

Not necessarily will you lose him. He chose you over two premiership teams where he was going to be second choice. He wanted to be number one. A sensible decision because next season he will be playing premiership football and then we will see if he can make the step up.

Which prem teams.?

Watching Fraser Forster and Danny Ward masquerading as Premier League keepers today, I think Grbic could play in the Prem never mind Cooper 😄
