Alan Woodward's 5 stints as an emergency keeper totalled 156 minutes but he conceded just only one goal which was an unlucky own goal by Bill Dearden.
At Leeds Utd

We lost 2-1

Bassett tried Brian Smith in midfield at Middlesbrough in 1987-8.

Final score: Middlesbrough 6 Sheffield United 0

Another Kevin Blackwell tactical triumph: putting Jordan Stewart on the wing v Newcastle in 2009-10 with David Cotterill sat on the bench, with Cotterill instantly creating 3 good chances, the easiest missed by Henderson of course, when he was finally brought on.

the thread on here after that game, which also covers Seth Bennett's defence of Blackwell on Radio Sheffield afterwards, is priceless. It's entitled Bennett/Walker/Giddins if someone with more skills than me can link to it. It's rare you see such unanimity.

1960-61 season, sold right-winger Kevin Lewis in the summer, didn’t get a replacement (sounds familiar?). Various replacements were tried, but the most successful was reserve-left back Cliff Mason, who for reasons nobody understood was quite successful and helped keep our promotion hopes and Cup run going until the spring, when Len Allchurch was signed, and he hit the ground running and scored vital goals which helped seal promotion. The plan to play Mason always seemed bizarre, almost as if it was designed to bewilder the opposition. But it worked

We were already 2 down at Leeds when Tom McAlister got carried off unconscious. The goal he conceded was the home game v Man City
Ok

I just remembered woody going in goal - I was at that game , many years ago 😂

Matty Done was a left back turned striker, hardly scored, dunno if he carried on up front after us?

Tyrone Thompson was a youth striker who Warnock started in midfield alongside Stuart McCall (I think?) in a cup game. I think Warnock argued we needed someone young and fit to do the running alongside McCall. I think people said he did well, but he never played for us again.

There was a game under Kendall where we put reserve goalkeeper Carl Muggleton on as an outfield player. Were there only three subs and we'd used the other two, and then we got another injury?

Rob Kozluk played up front in pre season I think? As did physio Tony Daley, long after retiring, coming on in a friendly, skipping past a few players before scoring.

Gareth Taylor had played as a centre half before he joined us. Did we ever use him there?

Guuuusssss Uhlenbeek was errantly stuck in at CB
I don’t think it was a planned shift of position, I think it was injury/suspensions
Anyway Gus had a nightmare and was roundly criticised vocally by some fans
It really pissed me off as Gus had done well for us in his proper position and was a great favourite of my daughters as he was so friendly and approachable….
This foray into CB territory and the resultant vitriol crushed his confidence and love of being here I think….

We used to frequently play Nick Montgomery in midfield and he wasn't even a football player.
He was brilliant at keeping anyone that Warnock told him. I refer to the cup semifinal when he didn't give Patric Viera a kick ( he was arguably the bestest midfielder in the world at the time). Viera was hooked after 70 minutes.

Dont recall this?

Maybe you were thinking of Charlie Bell in 1966?
Absolutely not! Wouldnt know Bell if he dropped on my head from a great height. Flynn, home game, probably just before Xmas 75/76 relegation season. It didn’t work, didn’t last the game up top. Never mind Silent.

Paul Coutts played on the wing a few times under Adkins

Paul Beesley once played up front for us under Bassett. Want to say Notts County at home?

Rob Page was used at right back when he first came in under Warnock

Del Geary played left wing away at Blackburn in our Premier League season under Warnock

I think I remember reading in an old programme that Billy Whitehurst played centre half for us in a League Cup game away at Northampton in 1990

The Northampton programme had our players with the wrong numbers. Bob Booker was down as number 1. During the warm up before the match, Bob had keeper's gloves on and was in the net for a minute or two. Blades fans behind the goal had a good laugh!

Would that be at Reading last match of the season when Chris Short had a bad injury?

Flynn didnt play a first team match for us between October 1975 (lost 5-1 at Wolves) and February 1976 (0-0 at home to Everton

I remember under the second season of Danny Wilson, we had a few games with a left hand side of Matt Hill at LB and Marcus Williams at LW. As you can imagine, we didn't score many goals

Good player Kevin Lewis. I remember him coming back to play at the Lane with Liverpool and looking impressive. I think he had an excellent goals per game ratio for a winger.
