After Matt Hill's great performance on Tuesday night, I'm wondering whether he should retain his place.

Why should Harry M just swan back into the team?

You make it sound like he doesn't deserve to be recalled. He is our only goal threat if we take away penalties

I would definitely play Hill - not really bothered who out of Collins or Maguire would partner him. He showed how important having some pace in central defence is on Tue night - and it will be even more important when we come up against pacier teams than Walsall.

Now then I am reading a book which you lot might be interested in for Christmas it is called
Hatters, Railwaymen and Knitters: Travels through England's Football Provinces by Daniel Gray. It's alright, there is a chapter on us.
Anyway in the Luton bit there is reference to Joseph "Joe" Payne, best known as the scorer of 10 goals in a match for Luton Town ...

What is the relevance to this thread? well Joe Payne had previously been a centre half until, due to injuries he had to play centre forward and went on to score bucketfulls of goals. Harry?

I've mentioned it before but Harry in defensive, centre midfield would give us the height and strength we so badly need there. It was the first time this season that we were not vulnerable to pace down the middle. Hill's speed and anticipation was probably the best part of Tuesday's game against Walsall for me.

We might get more money for Harry if or when we sell him as a midfielder too

He only just gets away with his lack of mobility at centre half, putting him at centre mid would be disastrous (IMHO).

Disasterous to be lacking of pace at the back, with a player such as Hill behind him it surely would be safer

Play Harry as a sweeper?

(I realise that sweepers have gone out of fashion - maybe it's time to bring them back)

Does Hill deserve to be dropped? He has always looked good at centre-back. Hence the question. No chance Harry won't come straight back in though of course but a rest might do him good.

Hill played very well on Tuesday, and as others have said, pace in the CB position is a great asset. If he keeps up the good work during Maguire's ban, I'd like to see those 2 operate at the back.
