Signings that felt underwhelming at the time but whelmed you in the end

(If whelmed is a word).
I can't say I was that bothered when we signed Tyrese Campbell this season. His record at Stoke didn't seem that impressive and I sort of felt he would be a bit part player. I'm glad to be proven totally wrong (again!).
Similar signings for me have been:
Brian Deane (why are we signing a big donkey from Doncaster?).
David Mcgoldrick (a has been seeing out his career)
Leon Clarke (a journeyman).
I'm glad to say I was totally wrong in every case!

Controversial statement incoming, i was totally underwhelmed when we signed jack Robinson, but in my opinion he's been a terrific signing, yes he can make a mistake but which player doesn't, last season he was possibly the only player to come out of it with any semblance of respect, and that's against the best players in the world, and to me there's no finer sight than jack making a crunching but fair tackle where the opponent is left flying in the air and the ref gives them a throw in

I was pleased when we signed Campbell tbh.

I was underwhelmed when we signed Souttar. I thought he lacked the agility and athleticism when we beat Stoke and the occasional other time I’d seen him play.

I was wrong. He’s a fuckin beast and I’m a fuckin tool

He's been incredible value for money, really.
Rarely puts a foot wrong. Hard as fuck. Gives his all. Never hides. Quality.

I can't remember who got POTY last season, but he deserved it.

Can I light the blue touch paper and say the most recent signing of Sharp?

The most recent is David McGoldrick. What a waste of a shirt, injury prone, didn’t really do it for me.

Shows what I know. An absolute pleasure to watch, at times he was untouchable. A key part of our promotion to the Premier League, we were lucky to have him.

So the main lesson is don’t ask me for my first impression of any new player. I thought Lee Hendrie was a fantastic signing. I know fuck all. 😆

Bromby and Geary from them cunts.

Andy Reid on loan.

Mark Duffy......him and McGoldrick are 2 of my all-time favourite players whilst watching the Blades since the late 70's.

A real pleasure to see such high quality control, passing and awareness.

Jon Stead. Honestly remember the frothing after he signed following his atrocious record at Sunderland.

5 in 10 in the PL. Great strike against West Ham.

Agree...thought Stead was surprisingly good.....tall but surprisingly skilful...a nice player.

However think I can beat that with Fatman......Neil Shipperley.
There was a spell of games playing for us where he lit up the Championship,.....head and shoulders above 2nd tier level.
A fantastic first touch and really skilful (twinkle toes) for a big man.
