Celebrating George Baldock

Baldock will always be one of my all time favourite blades players. He was the most competitive and committed players I've had the pleasure of watching. An absolute pro, a great athlete and a man who gives 110%, while demanding that from others. What he lacked technically he more than made up for with attitude, we were simply better with him in the team. His fight is everything you want to see. I've never known a player better be balance aggression and discipline, avoided many a red card like the pro he was

No tribute will be enough to honour him, but I really hope the fans sing loud and proud in his honour, while the players show his fight and desire. Baldock was a born winner, the biggest honour we can pay him his fighting for every win.

Fair play to the Oxford fans last night. Great support with gallows humour. They also started a chant for George and probably expected a response. I too was a bit surprised when they didn't get one

Yeah all very odd considering we have been chanting about George in pretty much every match since he passed away.

I joined in with the Oxford fans but not many around me joined in.

Will it only be Adam Davies left that played with George after Robinson and RND leave? Hopefully the shirt is still in the dressing room.

Peck and Blaster were in and around the squad in the Prem season.

I’m currently in Crete, and one of the largest towns here (Chania) has a Greek football museum. Alongside the great match worn shirts is our Georges below. The guide asked me my team and I told him, and he went straight to GBs shirt. He was well loved in Greece too.

I was in Athens airport on Sunday, bit of a rush and stuff since then but I’d walked in, went to buy a padlock in WH Smith’s and for some reason I actually listened to the music playing.

Starman by David Bowie.

Like so many Blades, Baldocks passing hit me, the tributes and games at the lane, end of season stuff really got to me.

So hearing that over the sound system inside the noisy and busy airport departures area really got me again. I’d rushed off and left the missus but it stopped me in my tracks… I couldn’t explain to her why I took longer than expected, but it was poignant. For me at least.

Nobody else in the airport either knew or cared, but the location, the starman and the blades link will surely live with me for many years like it does with so many others
