Yeah, today wer bad but everyone I seem to hear their all slagging off porter. Even the guys on praise or grumble (even though most most people didnt go that rang in). If u wanna blame some1 BLAME MAGUIRE. IM sorry but iv honestly had enough of his stupid mistakes in the past and today. Im 100% behind clough. Now Maguire had a shocker and just because he is an England international no1 slates him! WHY BLADES FANS WHY??? Oh, and flynn had a nightmare as usual but doyle was ok. I like doyle but again he gets soo much stick off the blades fans. Wen he doesn't score everyone says he shite but wen he does score, everyone cant get enough of him. Im sick of this fickleness blades fans! Hes not a effing striker!

I think even Doyle would admit to not being at the races today. He was fucking woeful, however this is what you get when you have a team that is just not good enough. We have players like Doyle, Flynn and Porter who divide the fans, not on how good they are but how shit they are compared to the other 2

How many wayward passes did Doyle make today? How many tackles did he win? Did he boss the midfield? Break any play up? Look like a captain trying to rally his troops?
That's the reason he got slated and gets slated, he's complete shit.
Porter I thought was ok up until his goal then he just went missing..

The back four were poor today. Porter had a decent game and linked well with Miller. But I have to say that Porter just isn't going to get enough goals. I'm not criticising his work rate and he does many things well, but he's just not enough of an all rounder and doesn't frighten defences.

What he does often do however, is take the attentions of 3 or 4 opponents, something we've failed to take advantage of many times.

I don't disagree, but at times he's also a culprit too. Flynn was coming down the left late in the game, he had 3 men on him and he was deep, but Porter chose to play the ball to him rather than looking right or behind.

It certainly wasn't Porter's fault for today's defeat, poor defending and ineffectual performances in central midfield contributed most to the latest shocker.
Thought Porter, Miller, White and to a lesser extent Flynn played well in the first half, but second half the team seemed all to willing to revert to route 1. Maguire had a poor game today but we'd be in trouble without him. Doyle needs replacing urgently, he can be ok but he's in a key position were ok simply isn't good enough, in centre mid we need someone who is going to stamp their authority on the game.

Strikers will always get slated more cos they win games. Or in the case of ours, don't.
Last game of the season, we need a win to stay up. It's 1-1, 3 minutes in to injury time. The ball falls in the box, open goal. Virtually impossible to miss. Who do you want it to fall to? Out of every single player, including goalies, i've ever seen play for us, Porter would be the last person i'd want it to fall to! And he's a striker. Or at least, he's supposed to be. That right there, is why he gets so much stick. You don't need strikers who score goals, though it certainly bloody well helps, but you do need strikers who can shoot straight and hit an 8 yard target from 2 feet away.

But as a striker it's his job to score goals, but when you're as shit as he is, you are never going to score any

I'm not saying Porter is the answer, I am saying that I am aware of his limitations as a player and yesterday he played to the best of those limitations. He is the worst striker I have seen play as many games as he has at United, but yesterday he wasn't the worst player, McMahon, Doyle and Maguire are all ahead of him for that award. Just sums up how much of a mess we are in when we are talking about who was the least worst, not the best...

Porter may not be the answer to all our problems, but if other players put in the same level of effort and commitment as him we would undoubtedly be higher up the table than we are.

Rather than blaming Porter, I would be asking why we have a complete lack of mobility across the team, why our full backs have a general unwillingness/inability to push up and support the wide men, why we are playing two full backs across the middle, why we continue to persist with a captain who can't lead, why players who have done next to fuck all in two years are still getting games?!
Porter is one of the few players in the team that actually manages to do things within his job description, inconsistently maybe but at least he does it. The whole team is fucking awful. We lack pace, movement, guile, team spirit, leadership.....the vast majority of the team needs ditching and we need to start over.
Cloughie, just keep us up and get rid of as many as you can next summer.

I agree, those three would be preferred choices for me. I would reintroduce Baxter and Cuvelier as well. Whilst they haven't set the world alight so far it genuinely don't believe it's entirely their fault. Despite Long and Maguire getting some stick yesterday I would be happy to stick with those two as well. As long as Brandy can learn to behave we have to bring him back in as well....once he's eligible again. White should be playing at left back. So:-

Porter was not the worst player today but a symptom of playing Porter is that we just whack long hopeful balls up to him. The central midfield two are not quick enough or mobile enough to get forward to get anywhere near the second ball. I thought our play today was pretty thoughtless for the most part and I worry about Lappin and Doyle in a midfield two.
