I can feel it in me wattter ….We are going to stuff these piggy bastards

4-0 @ 33/1 get a tenner on you red and white wizards

Stole the betting idea from the latest Pinch podcast and had a fiver on Anel to score any time.

I've gone with 3-0.
And another for us to win, JRS score or assist, Burrows score or assist, Campbell score

Get my forecast tomorrow 4-0 and get double joy plenty of dosh and we go top

Not really. It’s important that people who bet understand what the odds represent. Granted there’s not too much difference between 33 and 34 but if someone thinks odds of 2/1 represent a I in 2 chance then they are seriously wrong.
Surely anyone who bets simply thinks that at 2-1 they get their money back plus twice the amount placed if they win. I doubt that they are bothered as to whether it is a one in three chance.

Well, they should be bothered or they’ll lose a lot of money in the long run.

If someone with a dice said to you that they’re going to roll it and they’ll offer you odds of 4/1 on you nominating the number it lands on would you take them up on it? Would you just think “I’ll have a tenner on number three at that price and if it wins I’ll get paid £40 plus my tenner back”? Or would you analyse those odds, work out that it landing on three is a one in six chance (i.e. 5/1) and say to yourself “I’m being offered under the odds here and I’m not having a bet”?

Blimey, it’s no wonder the bookies make good money. The chances of that being the scoreline must be about 1 in 1000.

Not sure odds would be that great would they?
32 games since it was last 4-0 to them, 27 games before that it was 7-3 to us.
Only 4 games ago we won 4-2 at their place.

Edit:
Just checked. Only 33-1 on BET365!

A part of me wants to put £15 on a Wednesday win to drown my sorrows if that happens… but i can’t bring myself to do it

It’s evens on United not winning (Wed and draw), so basically double or quits. So bet what you can afford to lose and if we don’t win you double your money. If we do win, happy to lose!!

Never put a bet on in my life and don’t intend to but this phenomenon always interested me.

The way I’ve always thought about it, though, is that most people who bet at 2-1 think if they put a quid on they are going to get 2 quid back. So, in their heads, they’re thinking the chances of their team winning is over 50% and they’re happy to take that bet. The fact they also get their original quid back is actually a good thing / pleasant surprise. The bookie thinks the chances are less than 33% but the punter thinks the chances are more than 50%.

Agree with you that it’s not accurate but they’re not being duped by the bookies. Actually works the other way round.

Like I said, I’ve never bet, so, happy to be corrected if I’m wrong.

Can you tell I’m trying to distract myself from thinking about the derby?!
