No tinkering tomorrow please Chris.

It is amazing how some people may interpret standard squad rotation in a spell with several games in a short period of time as "tinkering"
He didn't tinker with it at Leeds , he drove a coach & horses through it and we'd lost before the kick-off.

I'm not such a big head to think I know better than CW. He's with the squad all week & knows who needs minutes on the pitch & who doesn't. He discusses this with our club Dr etc. I don't!

Blimey , he's not the Messiah
He's a very naughty boy

(Well , he was at Leeds)

Pick the best team and make early changes.

3 points vs Bristol is just as important as 3 points against the Pigs when it comes to the final total.

The most important match is the next one.

Don’t start taking players like Burrows out, who are on form.

We play Tuesday and Sunday. Plenty of recovery time to play in both.

Cooper
Gilchrist Souttar Anel Burrows
Arblaster Souza
JRS Hamer Campbell
Moore

Definitely I’d play Hamer centrally, unless Chris feels he can ease him a little more and pick O’Hare. A total waste of his talents out wide. Campbell is now difficult to drop.

Shackleton, McCallum and Brooks obvious subs at some point.

All depends on how the game is going.

If this is true then Blaster should be rested 100%. Sunday is far more important and we must not take the chance of losing one of our most important players. I'd also bench Rak Saki and Hamer for safetys sake. However, I would bring Anel back as it's important to keep our defence together as much as possible.
Sunday is actually no more important in the grand scheme, yes for pride and bragging rights but every point is as valuable. Play our best 11 tonight and go for 3 points fuck having an eye on Sunday it’s a poor sheff Wednesday side ffs not a prime Man City!

Our record on injuries alone, has improved. I doubt that is by accident. Someone has given it a great deal of thought.
Include potential suspensions for key games, and resting key players or key positions and it can look even more complex.
Does anyone think we went to Blackburn with a defensive set up to an away game? Someone is learning to trust our squad replacements for whatever reason!
So far Cooper and Souttar seem immune to rest or disciplinary reasoning?

I'd go with something like this....

Cooper
Gilchrist Souttar Anel McCallum
Shackleton Souza Arblaster
Brooks O'Hare
Moore

Grind them down, kill them with our strong bench. Or don't. 0-0 would be fine too
I’m not sure that middle 3 would work. I’d be happy with the rest though.

I support the tinkering, provided we stick to the same system.

He has to use his squad on these three game weeks and has done so really well so far. We've been running with 0-3 injuries all season, he knows what he's doing.

Leeds was his only major error this season, with re: team selection / formation... but there's a good chance they're just stronger than us anyway.

I'd start Cooper, Souttar, Souza, as they're becoming vital to everything we do.
Nobody else should be free from rotation.

I'd definitely give Arblaster a rest.
Possibly even give Moore 60 mins off.

A lot of fans are capable of forming their own views based on the evidence of their own eyes and like to debate the manager's selections & tactics.
They can also see how a match is progressing and have their own ideas about changes which might benefit.
It's all part of feeling closely involved with the club you love , support and want to succeed.
Sometimes there'll be disagreement with what the manager has done and frustration with games like Leeds & Boro - but looks at what's happened since those games - the introduction of two strikers , the playing of at least one winger , a more positive setup and two solid victories.
Chuckle all you like at fans who want to air their preferences on players & tactics , but this forum is a great place to (politely) ventilate our views on the team we follow.
I think all would agree with your first bit, that’s one of the reasons we love football and enjoy the forum.

However, and this is not aimed at anyone in particular:

Most of the more extreme comments and ‘analysis’ are completely results driven. We win and all is good, we lose (or draw) and we find a scapegoat and we know better. Football is often fine margins and sometimes the best laid plans don’t work on the day.

Comments like: ‘anyone can see that…’, ‘we set up to fail because…’, ‘he’s just too stubborn…’, ‘he is clueless’, ‘how can he keep picking X over Y…’, he is a coward’ often come across as, well, a bit ridiculous to those of us who agree with the above comments about Wilder (or whoever) and their experience, commitment, knowledge, information, detailed planning, response to game state etc.

Then in your last bit you seem to claim that fans knew better, then it went wrong, then he listened, then it went right… until it doesn’t. This is clearly cherry picking in very complex situations. It would be very easy to find the more extreme comments many of us make about specific players and tactics and ‘prove’ how wrong we were with hindsight. We are emotional, fickle and, compared to Wilder, know the square root of FA. It’s fun to ‘play’ manager though, part of being a fan.

Like others I’m unsure how much Wilder should ‘tinker’ tonight… but whatever happens my opinions and response to his difficult choices will be largely driven by hindsight after the weekend.

Quite right mate, and I agree. What I should have made clear was that when I say I 'chuckle' at some of the comments, it's comments like .... "Wilder SHOULD have done this, or done that" "Wtf is Wilder doing, the wanker, anybody can see that against so and so we DO NOT do xy and z"

Of course we supporters have our own views and opinions, but that is all they are...... the view/opinion of a football fan. It's a bit like me as a brickie looking at an architects plans for building a block of flats..... of course I might have an opinion on parts of what is being said, but at the end of the day, that person is far more qualified than I am to decide on the whole project.

When we get beat playing a "positive setup", what will we blame then?

It'll be that he played this or that player that is obviously shite, we've been saying that someone else must start instead for weeks and now he's finally paid the price.

Some will say it wasn't really positive anyway, as in the pre match presser that the players probably don't even listen to he sounded too respectful of the opposition.

I beg people to consider the possibility that luck is involved in football, moments of brilliance can decide games, the opposition might be better than us or play really well on the day or have used some brilliant tactics to put us off our game.

My predicted starting eleven
Cooper
Shackleton Souttar Anel McCallum
Peck Souza
Brooks Hamer O’Hare
Campbell

The table doesn’t suggest they’re stronger than us, if they are better, it’s by a very small margin.

I’m more than happy for the starting lineup to be rotated, but we should never do what we did against Leeds again this season. We’re one of promotion favourites, not a relegation candidate.

That would be 6 changes. I can’t see him tinkering that much after how badly it went vs Leeds. Tonight is a big game if we want to fight for automatics.

If Wednesday wasn’t who they are then that would probably be the game for rotation over tonight as it’s at home vs a mid tabled side

It probably because I haven't lived in Sheffield for a long time I don't really give a monkey about the derby. We have been better than Wednesday almost all this century and they don't really come up on my radar on more than the odd occasion. Bristol City are clearly a better side, and we need to concentrate on beating them.

I think it'll be Shackleton for Gilchrist and maybe McCallam for Burrows. Anel most likely back in for Robinson but Wilder has been particularly vociferous in his praise of Robinson so I wouldn't be completely shocked if he kept his place.

Maybe Arblaster gets a rest? Possibly Campbell for Moore

Wilder has got form for this. It's still a decent side to be fair. I don't think Gilchrist, Arblaster or Moore will start.

Joe Mercer (our manager between 1955 and 1958 and later won trophies for Manchester City) shut up one of the SUFC directors who was questioning his tactics and team selections

Joe Mercer: What do you know about football, then?

SUFC Director: I have watched football for many years so I consider myself to be an expert
Joe Mercer: My wife has been sat next to me watching me driving my car for so many years, and she bloody still cannot drive!

Pick our strongest possible starting 11 (IMO) Go for 3 points every single game and deal with any injuries for Sunday, if they occur.

Cooper

Gilchrist Souttar Anel Burrows

Rak-Sakyi Arblaster Souza Hamer

Campbell Moore

Subs: Brooks, O'Hare, Brewster, Seriki and Shackleton.

You could argue that a stronger team is needed against Bristol than Wednesday, they are a better side. Us and Chris are likely to just consider Sunday to be a much bigger occasion but in theory we shouldn't need as strong a squad against them. As some have said 3 points is incredibly important at all times, we're chasing top spots and we don't want to be relying on those teams to drop form so we can pick up lost ground.

BUT I would happily sacrifice a win tonight for a full squad Sunday, that's me though and I would imagine Wilder can't think like that. He has to have his eyes on 3 points tonight, has to understand they're a stronger side than those on Sunday so I'd imagine a strong squad walks out. Besides a convincing win tonight for a strong squad sends them in to Sunday with high confidence. I'd be surprised if Wednesday get much from Norwich, I've only seen them once or twice this season but at home they do seem to have a bit of fight in them even if they're behind they seem to go till the final whistle, depends how they cope with that.

Following a good performance and a 2-0 win v Luton Chris unexpectedly dropped Jess who scored 2 and made other changes that were quite baffling and a lacklustre performance followed.
I hope he goes again with the team that totally dominated against Blackburn.
If Brewster is unavailable and Gus is fit then he should go with that. I would suspect that Gus would have got the nod anyway.
Robbo had a fine game on Saturday so should get the nod again ahead of Anel.
I know some will say players need a rest but a settled winning side is what's needed.
The odd change like Gus for Brewster or Anel for Robbo is fine but wholesale changes upsets the rhythm as it did v Leeds.
Go with the winning formula Chris........you know it makes sense.
Changes to the team arent necessarily bad. Changes to the system is what fucked us v Leeds.

Cooper
Gilchrist Souttar Robinson McCallum
Peck Shackleton
Brooks O'Hare Hamer
Brewster

After BC and Pigs it's international break, but as it is 3 games in eight days again, it would be best to rotate the squad to make sure all of our best players are ready for Pigs.

---------------------Cooper
Shackleton-Souttar-Anel-Burrows
-----Brooks-Peck-Souza-Hamer
----------Brewster---------Moore

Bring the likes of Arblaster, Campbell, O'Hare and Rak-Sakyi on in the second half if necessary to get us over the line.

Perhaps have some minutes for Óne, Marsh and Seriki, mostly for Óne and Marsh who ought to be out on loan, getting consistent game time.

I watched CW post match interview and apparently Brewster is fine, tight leg rather than hamstring. Gilchrist should be saved for Sunday where we can hopefully get 90 mins from him, same with Rak-Sakyi and Campbell. Peck and Hamer to give Arblaster and O'Hare a rest.
