This means 2 things to me:

1. Clough is planning on using him regularly (and probably as a CM if Saturday is anything to go by)
2. We will buy him in January on at least an 18 month contract, then realise he isn't what we need, and have another journeyman on our books. Seems a freakishly similar situation to Marcus Williams!

Lappin's ok, but surplus to requirements IMO

We have better players here already. I haven't seen anything at all from him to suggest that this isn't a compete waste of a shirt and money. I'm very disappointed.

He had a poor debut but he's been decent in the rest of his appearances and he can cover a number of positions. We've got a lot of games coming up before his loan expires so I think it's a sensible move.

We'll see what happens with him in January but I'm absolutely fine with the loan deal for now.

If signing him means that Clough is looking to shift some deadwood from the left side of midfield (i.e. Murphy & Williams) and also have experience in midfield to replace Doyle, then it is a good thing.

However if he is signing him on the basis he will be a better left back then Hill, then not so good.

Where does this put Aidy White in NC's plans?

I would target have all of the players you mentioned there in the team than Lappin based on what I've seen.

In my opinion he isn't good enough in either of the positions I've seen him (left back or left midfield) to be anywhere near the first team. I would have hoped we could do a lot better.

Alternatively Cloughie might just think he needs him until January as he's not been here long enough to assess the squad fully yet.

Well I think we can say that the chances of Clough playing fast paced exciting football are rapidly deteriorating. I think it will be a standard 4-4-2 with Lappin and White as LM/LB respectively, solid I suppose but hardly sets the pulse racing.

I suppose Brandys upcoming suspension limits our options on that side, but I would have thought Cuevlier was worth a try

He was crap against Hartlepool, good against Posh, and average against Crewe, from what I've seen of him. Not averse to having him, but think I would prefer Hill and White on the left to be honest, and one of Coady, Cuvelier, or McGinn to play in the middle alongside Captain Supreme.

Hopefully Lappin (or 'the fop') can improve more as he increases match fitness, and becomes familiar with the surroundings. Was rated highly at Naaaarwich.

His first game was possibly the worst debut I have ever seen in a Blades shirt.

Improved slightly since then but I wouldnt waste a wage on him.

Must improve lots and quickly.

Well in 10 days he's been here NC is doing a sterling job in eroding what little faith I had that he was the right man for the job.

We have better already here, and don't get me started on playing him in midfield.

Didn't have a good debut but was thrown in and lacked match fitness. He looks to have a decent touch though, and worth a further look until January to see if he's up to the job..it was a surprise that Mcginn was left out though, but he was one of our better players according to Blades who were there on Saturday.
Maybe NC is thinking he could play Doyle's role at some point, and add a bit of creativity alongside with the likes of Mcginn and Cuvelier,or maybe he's impressed in training or it's that he can also play a variety of positions...he's seen something in him to play him in the middle ahead of the lads warming the bench anyway.

He's also seen something in him to think it was a good idea to play him, out of position, against Shrewsbury in favour of someone who got two assists and a MOM performance from that position a week earlier.

I think that needs explaining by NC.

FFS what a shocking decision, no better (maybe worse) than Hill at LB looked out of place on left wing against Crewe and by all accounts a non entity in Centre Mid at Shrewsbury.

Very disappointing news

Maybe Cloughie saw his bright yellow boots and thought, he must be a good player?

I've seen this happen to other people's clubs and now it's happening to mine.

Getting a shite loanee then signing him on a fat contract (that nobody else will take off us) when it becomes even more apparent that he's totally shite? We've been doing it for years!

Seriously though, the manager will have seen more of him than us. Though his first appearance was, I think, the worst display of football I've ever seen from a professional footballer, we should allow the manager the benefit of the doubt before we write him (the manager) off as being as bang average as most of us thought.

The entrenchment of mediocrity continues apace at Bramall Lane.

Mediocrity? I dreeeeam of mediocrity.

What he said ^^

His debut was poor although he did only sign about 3hrs before kick off. Since then he's been steady and composed. I don't see what the fuss is with him.

Lappin was poor first half vs Shrewsbury and I was preparing to make a post about it being a bad decision to extend his deal.

However he did well and was our best player in the second half. He won a few challenges, worked pretty hard defensively and got involved more. He put in a couple of dangerous crosses and looked tidy on the ball, although he wasn't a driving force going forward.

But I don't think he should be playing alongside Doyle. What he did well, the neatness, winning a few challenges, picking up loose balls and finding a teammate, were the things you expect to see from the holding midfielder, i.e. Doyle. Sometimes he actually found Doyle with such a neat pass, followed by Doyle trying to do something creatively - which didn't work.

Doyle may have to watch out now.
