George Baldock RIP

If George Baldock had his say then it would be that his legacy should be something on the pitch where he continued to make a difference. Something where he could influence the match. A legacy of inspiration.

We are all aware of the Sheffield United Way. That needs to be re-titled 'The George Baldock Way'. Every player at the club - current and future, 8 year olds and expensive signings should all be exposed to the way George Baldock did things.

Clips of his attitude on the pitch, his will to win, his unbelievable relationship with the fans, his interviews all put together to show what we as a fan base expect from our players.

A George Baldock Award - 'The Starman' - every season for the player that has lived up to the levels set by the great man himself. As a fan base we know waht we are looking for - we've had 7 years to view the Master.

I'm not against the George Baldock Fan Zone but I personally think it would be sad that when the match starts & everyone is in the ground his true strengths are ignored and his legacy is an empty piece of land on the corner of Shoreham Street and Cherry Street.

Let him be on the pitch. That's where he belongs

The more I think about a flag the more I love the idea.

Get George’s flag up, and Billy’s back up. An example to our young players and the more experienced players.

It says “these flags are about legacy. Not money, cars or the trinkets. It’s about what people say about you when it’s all said and done…..legacy. You do that, maybe you get your flag”

"A George Baldock Award - 'The Starman' - every season for the player that has lived up to the levels set by the great man himself."

This for me. The new POTY award. Held every year, and which every player of ours should aspire and be honoured to win. A legacy of GB.

The stories of kindness coming out. How he looked after Sander during Covid and the defiblerator. I expect we’ll hear a lot more during the coming days.

Brilliant post

Was just thinking about how we was pleased we was getting rid of injury prone older players back in June. Makes you think how the so called beautiful game turns so dehumanised at times.

Was literally just a few years ago he was bombing up and down the right while we enjoyed some of our best times in our history.

Absolutely breaks my heart that we won't see him in person anymore through the years with the reunions.

I’m pretty strong and don’t show my emotions easily.I have been really struck by the passing of George,I can’t explain how I have been more choked by this than when relatives have died.If there is something after this I really hope that George is tearing up and down the heavenly turf.He never let us down, the best right back in my time watching the Blades. You could count on one hand the number of games where he under performed.Such a loss,God bless you George Baldock, the worlds a sadder place without you.
I could not have summed this up any better! I will be at elland Road next week and for 90 minutes I will be singing his name. He epitomises what a blade is. I will never forget his impact. God bless you gorgeous George 🧡

RIP Starman, when Coutts came on at half time a few weeks ago, I thought how great it would be when Baldock comes back to the Lane. A true Blades legend, heartbreaking news, was looking forward to following the rest of his career.

Still doesn’t feel real this long on. Not sure it ever will.

Was almost certain he’d play for us again before he retired and then join our coaching staff.

It’s fucking ballistic it really is. God are we going to miss this blokes presence in not just the club, but football in general.

As Macca put it on his shirt, Rest Easy GB2 x

Very sad news that George has gone.

He wasn't really Mr Angry. He just played in a wholehearted way. Aggressive, committed and determined. No half measure.

I liked him.

Condolences to family and friends at this terribly sad time.

HH

Agree should be a permanent tribute to George of some description, ideally if the club gave his family a couple of options and let them decide 🥲
