I might get some pelters here but here goes. I hope the club retire his shirt number in honour of a good pro and a brilliant lad by all accounts

I hear the sentiment, but would rather not do that due to the reasons already given above.

It's hard to work out what a decent tribute could be to GB but hopefully someone will come up with one.
A sea of Greece flags in his honor in the away end next Friday would be good start before something bigger

I appreciate the sentiment but retiring shirts isn't something that feels right to me and isn't really a thing in football the way it has been in other sports. To me you pass the shirt on and have the next crop of players honour those who came before. Everyone who pulls on the number 2 (or any other number) should know the standards in attitude and dedication set for them by those who came before. Baldock is a part of that heritage.

We shouldn't permanantly retire it but if we were allowed, I'd change Gilchrist's number to 5 for the rest of the season so George can have 2 as a symbolic gesture on the programmes.

I just hope the team play fully in his honour next Friday and beat the pants off the Weeds. That'll do for me, with the away support singing his name all match. Furious was a true blade hero. Massively underrated by many. He kept Mbappe, Grealish and many others in his pocket. Probably only KW better at RB than him for the Blades in recent times.

An alternate tribute might be for the club to hang a giant red and white striped flag from a stand with BALDOCK 2 printed on it, as a permanent fixture inside the ground.

A bit like what they do when they retire jerseys in the NHL.

It wouldn't be retiring the shirt, but a fitting permanent tribute.

I agree with you, although when you also put it like that it currently feels like no one would ever live up to the dedication and standards that George has set.

But yes, I think he would want to watch and see future blades doing his number proud. He never put himself above the club.

Great idea.

Don't think retiring a number 2 shirt is that big a tribute.

The best tribute is to either use his name for something permanent so it's regularly mentioned, like the George Baldock fan park
or have a big flag at the back of the Kop. It could be the start of something like in your pic
where extra special ex players are honoured by having there flag with their number and picture at the back of the Kop.

I'm surprised there isn't more large flags on match day.....remember the Billy Sharp flag that was down the side of the Kop
makes me wonder if there are restrictions due to safety.

Regards Baldock he was the nearest player to Billy Sharp regards his passion for the club and the badge.
Those 2 could have poor games but they never received any stick because they always gave 100% and when we lost hurt as much as us fans.

My view is that the numbers from 1-11 should never be retired, but these numbers should only be given out when a player has earned it For example the number ten shirt, Billy Sharp wore the number 10 shirt, not because he was a number 10, he was obviously a 9, but because of the heritage, this was the number of Brian Deane and Tony Currie, he chose the number 10, I don't want to see, for example, a loan player given the No.2 because this was the first free number, I would prefer that all new players have a number higher than 11, and when they have earned the right, they are given a number between 1 to 11

If all new players were given a number higher than 11 then Sharp wouldn't have been number 10 and Baldock wouldn't have been number 2.

This makes a lot of sense. I like that Arblaster has got 4 this season and taken the number over from Fleck. It feels symbolic somehow. I think if he had worn it sooner it might have felt a bit premature. Similarly how Ndiaye was going to have 10. I think certainly numbers need to be earned.

It makes no sense.

If we applied this rule then the only players we'd have this season with numbers 1-11 would be Arblaster (4), Brewster (7) and Hamer (8).

1, 2, 3, 5, 6, 9, 10 and 11 would be vacant.
