Were we brilliant? Far from it.............

Were we good enough to win? Far from it...........

Were we 2 goals worse than them? Far from it............

Were the conditions great? Far form it............but can't use that as an excuse!

The main words that sum that one up are "scrappy affair". Horrible ground that in weather like today, open to the elements big time and they did play a part in how the football was played but that shouldn't be used an an excuse in any way because although terrible weather, they handled it better than us at times and once again despite putting the ball around well in midfield, we were pants in the final third which I will come back to in a second because I want to mega slate a player.....guess who?

Started pretty open. Wind played it's part and I will come back to what I said "scrappy" describes the opening play more than anything. We gave as much as we got and neither team dominated in a slowish starting game. It remained pretty open until their full back unleashed a cracker from a good 30+ yards out that Joe Hart, Petr Cech and the rest of them wouldn't have even got near to so young Long didn't have a prayer!.

After that it was scrappy again but in all fairness we came into it a bit and managed to build a tiny bit of momentum and put them under a bit of pressure. Wasn't brilliant but for me we were edging the game and at half time I still fancied us to nick one and at least come away with a draw which all things considered is what I expected and would have probably been a fairer result.

After half time we came out again and went at them a bit and again it was a bit scrappy until the moment that no arguments about it cost us the match. I didn't see what happened to be honest but their lad has tackled Brandy, didn't look a great deal in the tackle from what I could see but Brandy took a dislike to it and pushed their man (I later found out it was in the face but didn't see that myself). Completely unnecessary, ridiculously stupid and as I said his actions cost us from there on as it knocked our momentum and opened the game up for them .

After that credit where due we still tried to play football and still had a few chance but we weren't good enough in the final third and you just knew it wasn't going to happen for us.

They then broke away in numbers and punished us at the back by scoring a second goal as we pushed on a bit and left ourselves open at the back.

**RANTS & MOANS**

Ian Brandy (Taken the Fab out of his name because he was far from it!)......Like I said there didn't seem that much in the tackle in the first place but his reactions after that were nothing short of stupid. Sent off again and cost us the chance of getting anything out of a game that in all fairness we were very much still in. Is it a 4 or 5 match game now? The lad needs a significant fine and needs dropping to the reserves now until he can prove that he warrants a place in the first team. He's not really stood out for me as of yet anyway so we won't overly miss him!

Marlon King.......Believe it or not my first paragraph refers to King. Brandy has mega pissed me off today and i'm not happy with him but my patience in King has now well and truly run out! They say he's "unfit" but for me he's merely disinterested, he doesn't look like he can be arsed or like he even wants to play for Sheffield United. He strolled around the pitch today at times like he didn't want to be there so get shut and give the shirt to someone else. Why he even started over Miller who had a cracker midweek for the reserves is beyond me anyway!. MARLON KING OUT!

Ryan Flynn.......Back to a typical Ryan Flynn performance today. The last couple of games he's impressed me but today he didn't get into the game, his passing, crossing and all round performance wasn't up to par and overall wasn't anywhere near good enough!.

Nigel Clough..... Don't get why McGinn was dropped what so ever? Been our stand out player over the last couple of games and for me was the first name on the team-sheet for this one! Brought him on late into a game where we had no real shape and 10 men he couldn't really get into the game. Bad decision in my opinion!

The rest of the team.........Overall despite putting it in and trying to work something out of the game it had a feeling some what of a David Weir'esqe about it. For all the effort we put in we fizzled out in the final third and probably a large percentage of that goes down to the so called time serve pro Marlon King but our finishing on a whole wasn't good enough and we didn't take our chances!

ON A SLIGHTLY POSITIVE NOTE.,......White looks half decent. In a scrappy game, one which didn't flow too well in poor conditions he didn't do too bad on his debut. He got on the ball and ran at players a couple of times and beat them. He looks a tricky one and could potentially be a key player for us in his time with us. Like what I so of him and looking forward to seeing him playing in a better game.

George Long - Mediocre.
Tony McMahon - Mediocre.
Harry Maguire - Mediocre.
Matt Hill - Poor.
Neil Collins - Mediocre.
Ryan Flynn - Poor.
Simon Lappin - Poor.
Michael Doyle - Mediocre.
Aidan White - Decent'ish.
Lyle Taylor - Decent'ish.
Marlon King - Very Poor.

Sean Miller - Decent'ish.
Stephen McGinn - Mediocre.
Ian Brandy - Very Poor.

Did Nigel Clough explain himself on Radio Sheffield re: dropping McGinn?

Good question mate. I haven't had the displeasure of listening to Radio Sheffield today what with being at game. Didn't even know McGinn wasn't playing until a couple of minutes into game as didn't hear any tannoys or anything!

Anyone know anything about why he was dropped? I can only think to fit White in and keep Lappin in the team? The fact that he came on as sub pretty much says this as he was obviously fit.

Why was Collins taken off also ?
the first thing a good manager will do at a club is try and shore up the defence to get a base to build from ,does he not fancy Collins or was he injured ?
Surely you would think McGinn was ill or carrying a knock ?

Think Collins was struggling so you can't really knock that one.

If McGinn was ill or carrying a knock then why would he be on the bench and coming on after 75 minutes of a game?

My guess is like I said he dropped him to accom White into the squad and still play Lappin which if this is the case was Clough's first real error for me!

I doubt he was even on Bukakke Heaven today, what with South Barnsley qualifying for the Champions League knock-out stages just for scoring some goals. I had to switch the piggy wank-fest off before 20 past 5 cos of all the pig spunk starting to seep out of the speakers.

Facebook also lit up as if he they had won the european cup.

One fruit loop claimed they were the pride of yorkshire having won today. More like a burnt yorkshire pudding.

He did mention that - had a swelling 'the size of a golf ball' on his head which they tried to drain but he wasn't in a state to continue. McGinn not questioned about, but he picked Doyle, White and Lappin out for praise.

Before the match Clough said he wouldn't be changing a winning formula. He then drops McGinn and puts Lappin in the middle! To me, not changing a winning formula means keeping the spine of the team the same!

Also, I can't be the only one scratching my head when the line up was announced. (Bet Morgan was too!) Let's not just blame this on the Brandy!

I would say Clough's selection yesterday gave a clue as to how we'll be approaching games in the immediate future. A base 442 with a pretty steady 'unexciting' middle four, grinding out results rather than going with a flourish.

Until we (if ever) pull clear of the drop zone with some comfort, this could be the diet for the foreseeable future...

Beyond furious with Clough, McGinn's been our most influential player in our mini revival of late but no lets drop him and stick a fucking left back in the middle, unbelievable.
Even if you make an assumption that McGinn was unfit/unwell his legs had dropped off or whatever, what message does it send to the other midfielders apart from your all shit, and a poxy crap left back that's played shit for us is better in the middle of the park.
I'm going for a lie down before I combust.
