Portsmouth Away the Referee

Gave one of the worst performances as a ref I've witnessed when he was star struck by Hollywood FC in our 3-1 cup victory. Dished out 26 cards so far in the 4 games he's been in charge of this season. Expect our disciplinary record to suffer when he inevitably loses control of the game.

Genuinely fancy a flutter on Vini being in book after 10 mins and off before 60 mins

Despite also sighing when I saw this, we have won our last six league games refereed by Donohue albeit several "in spite of" rather than "because of" - that Blackburn game in particular.

He is one of 3 referees I genuinely detest and that's a very rare thing for me, as usually I don't mind officials as long as they are fair and not arrogant. Just like footballers, referees will make mistakes or not be in the right position to see it but what I can't stand is arrogance and there is no excuse as a 35 year old like him not to be in the right positions. For me its him, Bobby Madeley and Keith Stroud that make the 3. I don't want to make mates with the referee but its a mutual respect that must be earnt and not a right. They say footballers should be more like rugby players etc. But if you listen to a Rugby (especially Union) Referees mic'd up, the phrases will be "I appreciate you were trying this...." or "You don't need to be doing that" they often don't take centre of attention you have one off's like Nigel Owens in Rugby but he was mainly known because of his catchphrases and quick wit which often diffused a situation and the players knew how he refereed games.

When I saw it was be mfd doing this match, I put a couple of quid on Anel and Souza to both be booked.

I’m a convert, ref of the year - give him cup finals

With apologies to Leigh Doughty another useless two hat of a ref. He was the one who was in charge of the Wrexham game. Donoghue was etched in my memory from the Blackburn home game in 2022 where we scraped a 1-0 win following him completely ruining the game. Charlie Goode was sent off early and we held out with 10 men scoring the winner in injury time. Paul Heckingbottoms quote after the match was priceless " I think the ref got the Charlie Goode one right but he got everything else wrong!"

Didn't disappoint today was his usual look at me self. Incredible that we haven't lost a game with him in charge. Wins in the past and todays draw definitely despite him. Lucky we only got 2 cards but typically they were the ones we couldn't afford ones for Souza now on 4 and 1 away from suspension and Anel moved up to 3 alongside Gus.

I thought it was a good match today for any neutrals watching. Both sides went for it. Portsmouth looked half decent to me. I think they'll survive without too much difficulty.
The refereeing was abysmal. The match ending totally summed him up. No one either on it off the pitch knew what the fuck was going on. Had full time been blown? Was it a free kick? The commentary team had no idea either.

Despite being awful for 99.9% of the game, he played advantage the way it should be played - he gave us a good 5-6 seconds after a foul, and when we lost it he brought it back for the foul.

Compare this to the game a couple of years ago (Middlesbrough?) when Mcatee was clearly fouled but tried to play on, then lost the ball, then they scored.

While the rugby advantage (which seems to go on for days) is a bit extreme, it definitely should be done how it was done today.

At least he was consistently shit for both teams so didn't bias the game, seemed utterly incompetent and missed some obvious fouls but then gave some bizzare ones too.

Agree not biased, shit for both. It just consistently ruins the flow of the game. Soon as players know they're getting a foul when they hit the deck, then that's what's going to happen.
