His biggest error in writing has to be.

"Nigel Clough is the overwhelming favourite for the job (at the time of writing) – will benefit from having thousands of ardent Blades in his corner."

Not from what i,ve read on here he won't ;)

"This is a football club that specialises in suffering."

Any chance this could be the club's motto?

Suffering is a relative thing. Watching your team sink from the top division to the bottom of division 3 is a trial, but not compared to Pompey.

But then again Pompey aren't Derek, on his way to Benidorm. Now that's suffering!

Stick it in Latin and you've got a winner.

The Blades always make me think of the Winston Churchill quote "when you're going through hell, keep going"

Perhaps we need a thread for the blades motto

Yes. Like Everton and a few other clubs. I'm going to tweet big Jim about this.

A decent precis of what most of us already know.

'It is far from a lost cause however. There is precedent at this enigmatic club for oscillating from despair to delirium.'

Let's not go down the maudlin Millwall/Dave Jones route. 'It's not our fault. Nobody likes us. We were unlucky.' It's football as experienced by 95% of supporters. In May 2006 when we beat Palace to secure promotion to the PL, I noticed a few Palace fans had stayed behind to watch our celebrations (including the McCabe 'We will never go down again' speech). I bet they thought 'Lucky bastards'.

A few short years later, look where we are! And Palace are in the much-cherished Premier League and, if last night is anything to go by, in for a winter of pain.

All part of supporting a football team.
