Just watching the match & both look really poor, not in the game at all and Archer missed a pen.

Did Archer make a mistake in having another crack at the PL after a chastening first dig?

A 20 goal championship season would have rebuilt confidence and built experience. He could even have tried using his left foot once or twice…

That said, it all proves how the PL just hoovers up any striking talent. Could any championship team afford him?

I think the best place for Archer would be with a side he comes up with. I think that’s the case with a lot of Strikers in that sort of 3rd tier of PL strikers.

Not seen how he’s played today and didn’t know that Archer had gone there but probably needed to give himself a chance by fitting in and making sides play his way on the way up as it’s so hard to force that when sides are in the shite

That’s why we need a striker like him to come in in Jan and grow with us

I personally believe Archer is overrated, (one good season) and he does appear to let his head drop, not sure why maybe he's another Billy Big Bollocks so I'm not bothered that he went! (And before some of you start that is just my humble opinion)
Archer doesn't have enough aggression/balls to be a top player in my view. You've either got to be exceptional or make up for lack of certain attributes with aggression, work rate/desire. Archer inst exceptional at any of these other qualities. He's a top end championship striker as a result.

Both would've been great at this level, but it's a massive step up.
Would've loved BBD in particular and at £6m he's an absolute bargain

It’s not really the £6 million fee, we can afford that. It’s his near £50K a week wages that would be the problem.

Both players will be available next season.

Let’s hope Archer and BBD struggle in the PL this season, then I agree, if we are promoted then a deal might be achievable for us regards both players.

If they have two consecutive relegations on their CV would that be that great (hard on BBD I know!)

Brereton's agent fucked him over, he wanted to stay at BDTBL and no doubt would jump at the opportunity if we go up.

Disagree, apparently he was on £33K in Spain, so we’d need to beat the near £50K a week Southampton offer.

Any Championship agreeing to pay any player £50K is financial mismanagement, probably contravening FFP rules and more points deductions coming our way.

He was never going to take a big pay drop to join us.

It would look poor for both players but thats the point no other PL clubs are likely to be interested in either, so we can pick both players up at a cheap ish price and if we’re promoted sort out a deal to afford their wages.

Archers stock value/ reputation is diminishing but that’s always the best time to gamble on a player who’s just had a bad season or 2. Regards all players it all depends how they are used without a team tactical framework.

If we were promoted and Wilder wanted either BBD and/or Archer I’d feel confident it’s a decent signing because Wilder knows both players really well and will have devised a tactical plan to get the best out either player.

Either one of them would be the difference maker for us in this league

I think that was clear, I think we'll have been looking to recruit such a player in the forward line, but we've had to do without

We have to be looking towards January, aiming as high as possible to recruit a stand out player in this position more than any other

Couldn't Diaz just tell his agent he wants to stay? It's HIS career, it's HIS agent and surely ultimately HIS decision...?

I suppose he could have insisted on serving his contract and receiving his £33K a week at Villarreal in Spain.
However once he'd tasted PL with us...then you can imagine he wanted to return to England and play in the PL.

Obviously he couldn't insist he played for Sheff Utd because he was never our player and we never offered him a contact
because we knew we couldn't get anywhere near his Villarreal wage.

Archer seems like the sort of striker who thrives in a partnership, his season at Middlesbrough he partnered with Akpom and had his best season to date, those first few games with us we played him in a 2 with Mcburnie.

Definitely take BBD, not sure about Archer.

Either would slot in that left wing role, but BBD works back and is a grafter. Archer isn’t really the same player.

Archer could play off Moore, in behind him, but it would mean changing out O’Hare for him.

Hamer is playing in that makeshift left wing role whereby he isn’t there all the time as he comes deeper or drifts inside. We have some fluidity in that front 4 but have three that work back, with ‘Jez’ and Moore taking turns to sit on the last man…

Archer and BBD would definitely fit into the squad but not sure Wilder seemed to like Archer that much

This just simply isn’t possible. His agent can’t sign the contract for him and Southampton were definitely the better move for him personally and his career.
I can’t see how anyone in their right mind would say it would have been better from a footballing perspective to stay with us and financially Southampton would always be a better option if they’re in the league above.
