Great Gk… the type you love playing in front of…

Sweeps up
Good hands
Good distribution
Quick rrflexes

We will deff make a large profit when we sell him.

He does look quality even though not really Neen tested. Get ball from crosses good reflexes and what good to he's comfortable with the ball.. hos distribution is good and quick amd gets us going again. Very good upgrade so far.

He could be talking about the weather for all I care but watching the highlights couldn’t really see him that much last night he is constantly talking to the defence which is great to see

In the interview with Hamer & McAllum straight after the game, Hamer made a passing comment that (I think) referred to how much talking the defence do during the game & I imagine Cooper is part of that.
Was funny when Anel was bollocking Sam ‘Roy of the Rovers’ McAllum too. 🤣

Looks decent, see his mentality if he concedes a sloppy one or two. He has a promising defence in front of him and a good defensive midfield, looking good.

Tonight was the night I realised we have a very good keeper. Catches the ball, good hands, good reflexes, springs like a cat, very good distribution.
Me too. Not seen any world class saves yet, but can't fault him so far. Definitely an upgrade on Grbic and Davies, and he could well also be an upgrade on Wes.

Yeah this is a good shout. Similar stature as well. He’s more Tracey than Henderson I think. Hendo was very in your face. Coops looks to have that steely confidence and shot-stopping ability that Tracey had (except on occasions when running out of his net to try to ‘intercept’ a through ball / decapitate a Center forward).
Are you American?

Were not going to sell him. If you want Champions League, you dont sell your best players.

I noticed that 3 or 4 times he caught the ball from crosses, where we see a lot of keepers punch...it takes pressure of the defense as punching the ball can often put us under pressure again if it goes back to the opposition.
I'm sure I read he was a decent cricketer somewhere,so I wonder if that is why he's comfortable catching the ball...Good with his feet, and we look solid at rhe back now..not seen him have to pull off a march winning save yet,but hopefully he won't have to.

The thing that I love about having cooper at the club is that it’s pretty much universally accepted by pundits, analysts and backed up by Plymouth fans that, whilst ever he stays fit, he is a premiership level keeper. I haven’t read anyone say different. So every time he’s on the team sheet we get that advantage. He was only cheap because of his injury record and contract situation.

Obviously if he gets crocked we’re fecked. But if we can ride our luck that’s at least two players who will walk into any champ 11 (Hamer being the other).

Looks so much more assured than anyone we’ve had since Hendo. Nice to have a goalie we’re not worried about.
Makes the saves he should make, distribution is good, might occasionally fuck up in the future (all keepers do) but if you’re not worried by every shot on target it makes it a much easier watch!

Confidence is contagious.

Corners or crosses, for example if you are sure your GK will sweep up anything in 6yd box you can solely focus on marking your man, tracking your runner, keeping eyes on the ball.

I’d be guessing but assuming he’s a strong communicator as well - often undertook facet of the GKs role

If you are second guessing the keeper… he might come, he might not, he might catch, he might punch, he might drop it - you can’t fully focus on the job in hand.

It’s an isolated position, more so than any other in football - but 100% part of the defensive unit.

I always thought Wes and for that matter Simon Moore were excellent shot stoppers and would pull off some great reflex saves.

However goalkeeping isn't just about saving shots, it's about decision making which involves a level of intelligence,
knowing when to stay close to your line and when you come off it. It's also about spotting attacking danger and weak areas in your defence and being vocal to organise and warn your defence and finally the current fashion is having a goalie who is comfortable receiving the ball to their feet and able to make passes to defenders. Wes is still a decent keeper, excellent shot stopper but weak in the other areas above.

The best goalies have a presence, an air of confidence which feeds into the defence. I've noticed that since Cooper has played he's not made any reflex saves yet..however it's noticeable how the defence now look so much better. He's also excellent with his feet, able to kick with his left and right foot.

I'd be surprised if any would pass on Anel, Arblaster or Hamer.

Cooper, Souttar, Burrows, Souza & O'Hare can't be too far behind either. You'd think they walk into 20/24 of the teams.

agreed, I do wonder what impact his calmness and organising has on the defence?
we seem so much more structured and steady, definitely feel this is the reason for the lack of reflex saves required, no more chaos

Love JLTs attitude and fight, but what would it feel like last couple of games if we has JLT & Ivo?
