Team vs Hull

I'd like to see as close to the XI that started vs Watford as possible, with a couple of amendments:

  • Brooks back in for JRS;
  • O'Hare and Hamer switch positions.

O'Hare has looked ineffective at times in every game so far for me, and I think it's an issue of him being unable to find space in this setup. With Hamer drifting in from the left, and Moore sitting centrally a lot of the time as well, he is finding it hard to find some room for himself. Hamer would be better off centrally I think, as he'd be a little more comfortable dropping slightly deeper, allowing the wide players to roam infield in front of him. This creates more space around the box for O'Hare to thrive in, while Hamer can be on alert for loose clearances and such to shoot from range, or look for a killer pass in behind.

The performance of the back 4 vs Watford was the best so far this season for me, so no reason to reinvent the wheel. Souttar and Anel looked a solid partnership, and hopefully Anel now can get to focussing on the pitch after the personal troubles he's had to deal with.

Would like to see some more of Shackleton. He looked really solid when he came on - positive RB willing to make driving runs with and without the ball, and looked eager to put a cross in.

Again want to see us on the front foot and forcing the issue. Don't allow Hull to take control of the game - aggressive pressing where we can to stop them getting into a rhythm.

I have no idea why O’Hare can’t play off the left and drift in… he’s a better dribbler than Hamer is
You are right in terms of O'Hare being a better dribbler and better in tight spaces. Which is why hamer shouldn't play as a 10, a lot of back to goal stuff that simply isn't his game. Another poster put the team I would like to see in a 433 with souza as the DM and arblaster and hamer as the 8's. O'hare off the left. If CW wants to play 4231, hamer would be worse in the 10 position and needs to continue from the left. If he wants to tweak it to a 433, I think that suits the skillset of both players better. Hamer is much better coming onto the play, in the 10, the game would be behind him most of the time.

If HCMD was manager tomorrow:

- - - - - - - - - -Cooper- - - - - - - - - -

Gilchrist - - Anel - - Souttar - - Burrows

- - - - - - Souza - - Arblaster - - - - - -

- - JRS - - - - - Hamer - - - Brooks

- - - - - - - - - Moore - - - - - - - - - -

Number of injury doubts though so there could be surprises.
Would love to see both wingers on but suspect this may not happen till last 20mins if we need a goal

FWIW this would be my exact team as well.

But gets the shirt back for me, been the best of the attacking midfielders/wingers in my opinion. Like many, I sense it would be better to swap Hamer and O'Hare, but think Wilder should stick with his plan for but longer. More tactical, than players, can we get a bit more width, someone who can go outside Brooks/JRS on the right and can we get Burrows into more crossing positions on the other side.
All good points but I also want to see more proactive substitutions of the attacking players during the second half to stretch tiring defenders.
It might sound a bit radical but imo each of Blaster , Hamer , Brooks , O'Hare , Jez & Peck should get at least 20 mins in every game , coz they are all good players + need to be match-sharp.
Let's exploit our pool of midfield talent.

Seriki fit again apparently. He set off like a train at Preston, but of course got injured

That performance had the commentators on the stream I watched gushing with praise and rightly so .

Add to that the fact that Shackleton who has is also fit again has also performed extremely well in this position , giving us not 2 but 3 excellent contenders for the role .

All of which leaves me puzzled as to why a number of posters on here have vociferously claimed that we are desperately short in the position of RWB .

Not least of my bemusement in this respect is the fact that it appears to have escaped their attention that we don’t play with wing backs anymore , thus allowing us to use players such as JRS who are natural and effective wingers and not mediocre fullbacks trying their best to be so .

Can't agree mate. Callum has to play. Why put Brooks on left when he plays on the right. A bit unlucky for Brooks but JRS to start on right and Hamer on left.
I don’t think historically Brooks does play there. He is being asked to play as an inverted winger this time around.

As a natural left footed player he will have played on the left quite frequently.

Not saying the plan isn’t to play with inverted wingers this year, it seems it is, but I don’t think he’d have trouble performing as a conventional one. It would arguably favour his stronger foot more.

Wilder said there's a few in doubt and can imagine its Moore (facial injury, played internationally) and maybe Anel (possible injury and head not right yet). Agree with poster above we may go Gilchrist and Souttar as cb's and Shackleton as Rb with Burrows on the left.

If Moore not fit we'll need O"hare dropping in behind Campbell up front so O"hare will definitely start. Maybe brewdog on after an hour.

Can see Brooks starting over JRS and him coming on to run them ragged with 30 to go depending on score.

It's a squad game and Wilder must start thinking in terms of planned tactical substitutions from 60 mins onwards.
We have no depth in defence or attack but we have plenty of midfielders including two great wingers.
If I were manager I would never allow O'Hare , JRS , Brooks or Peck to be on the bench for the entirety of any match - they are too good and I want them to stay match-sharp.
So for me it's only a decision of who starts and who comes on in the second half.
Look at what PL teams did to us last season , bringing on attacking talent against our tiring defence from 60 mins onwards.
Also , a change of players helps to discomfort to oppo defenders. Suddenly they face an unknown threat.
Also , once Campbell & Brewster are fitter , they should get a chance.
Keep more than eleven players involved because you can be sure we'll need them ready when injuries & bans come.

Some players definitely running out of steam earlier than I’d expect so I take your point on subs being introduced earlier when it’s necessary.

Isn't it boring without games 😆

Hamer is the best CM in the Championship. Play him anywhere else and his talents are wasted.

O'Hare? As I said when he signed he is more of a luxury player. AM or towards the right of the pitch. He will get you out your seats more than most but is equally frustrating as he keeps losing the ball. But on his day takes the piss out of the opposition. The problem is he only has a good game once about every 4 or 5 games. About the same amount of games you can forget he is on the pitch. The rest he shows glimpses of what he is capable of.

I'm still surprised you still play.both of them in their worst positions.

O hare looks like a classic floating player.
Think the great man that is Dane Whitehouse.

I like Moore but if we keep using him from the start every game we are going to break him.

Ipswich used him correctly last season starting some games and off the bench as an impact player in others, this is one I would use him off the bench for.

I remember watching him play against Preston and he just was always there as an option for a pass. He would get the ball, move it on and then be again there as an option. It was amazing to see. Must be knackering though! 😂
