CONFIRMED Alfie Gilchrist joins on season long loan

I thought he looked excellent tbh. Very strong defensively and his performance on the ball was extremely tidy to say the least.

Really like the look of this kid, looks intelligent and a mean competitor, basically the opposite of what Auston trusty was last season.

Excellent debut for Alfie, neat and tidy, very composed with a touch of Premier league class and confidence about him..

However he was never put under any real pressure by a poor PNE side, any issues he dealt with, making it look easy.

Yes, I don't think we should expect a lot of overlapping from him, based on what he's shown so far.

The balance will be a bit better if he has more of a winger type in front of him. Hampson is not that.

Gilchrist was also sloppy defensively on a couple of occasions tonight.

Wasn't impressed by him tonight. Hopefully just an off night for the lad.
Defensively he looked lost and offensively he seems very limited.

Hope that was just an off night for the lad did not look comfortable at RB looked lost at times.

Completely switched off on a few occasions especially for the Revan goal.

Tidy on the ball but overall poor defensively and offered virtually nothing going forward. As others say, hopefully just an off night. But I did have some concerns about him learning right back on the job and they showed up a bit tonight. Hopefully a learning experience.

I’d still like us to sign a more attacking right back to be the Bogle to Gilchrists Baldock.

Seriki is ideal as 3rd choice, especially considering Gilchrist covers centre back as well

Hopefully Seriki injury not too serious as he looks a very different option that might work well as an alternating attacking option.

We lost Baldock and Bogle, two decent right backs. I keep seeing people mention that were fine as we have three players for RB but none are solid full backs IMO.

IMO he plays right back like a centre back. It’s not just about flying up and down the wing, overlapping. Happy to accept he won’t be up to scratch there. But he needs to be positionally sound when we have the ball and when we don’t, and at the moment he isn’t. It’s not necessarily his fault because he is a centre back by trade. But I’d rather he wasn’t learning on the job like this with us.

But that's how we've got him. Chelsea have sent him to develop.
