Let's be honest, football is toxic. Beneath the visible tip of the iceberg, historically many players were treated like shit. Agents appeared in part to redress that balance. You can argue that in many cases the power has shifted too far but in a multi billion pound, short career industry where you could lose your ability to earn in a split second and in which clubs have demonstrated pretty ruthless policies in the past, you can't blame players for employing representatives to protect their interests. Some will be more honest and scrupulous than others, like any walk of life.
Employment law exists. Clubs are entitled to treat players as they like as long as that law isn’t broken. There no need for agents in the modern world, they are just con men and wankers.

Why? Could simply be one page missing a signature... how does that make this particular agent a 'cunt' ?
If it’s a page missing a signature that takes approximately 3 seconds to fix, not 3 days. Whether it’s a simple signature or a demand for money, or anything in between, it’s still the agent being an oxygen thief.

I imagine players have them because they believe they end up getting paid more. An agent will get every last penny they can in the contract, and the player himself might not be able to.
I agree they will be slimy characters like most recruitment agencies etc. but with them you end up getting paid more.

Maybe the agent is not hanging around in the EFL offices.....you know....maybe he's somewhere else. It might take a little longer than 3 seconds to get to where the document is (if that is actually the problem). Saying that, this thread is a complete shitshow - people blaming the club, the player, the agent. I'm fully expecting the blame to fall on to Trump, Putin, Starmer and the fucking Far Right in the next hour or so......without anybody actually knowing anything. Nearly 80% of the posts in the last 24 hours should be moved to the "Bed wetters" thread.

Top tier cringe account ‘Nowdenblades’

‘There’s another offer on the table by another club’

Every other recognised journalist that is genuinely in the know states this isn’t the case, it’s his agent & paperwork that’s held it up.

I nearly tipped over the edge when I saw ‘aye 4’ when we signed Cooper.
Can't stand that account haha. 2 more weeks until end of the window, 3 more weeks until they'll be back at school.

And players are perfectly entitled to employ representation under those same laws. Presumably agents employed by actors are wankers as well? If you're a hugely talented footballer but less skilled in the arts of contract negotiations why on earth would you not outsource said arts to an expert?

Can we blame the fax machine?

It’s not just about a weekly wage, there is much more in the contract.

Bonuses, release clauses, additional year options, relegation wage reductions, promotion wage increases, image rights etc. etc. There must also stuff in the contracts that fans never even hear about.

If you’re a young lad and going to make a 4 or 5 year commitment to a club, I think it would be wise to have someone who’s an expert in football transfers/contracts looking out for your best interests.

Didn’t you say this about Gilchrist before the Preston game?

Yes. After CW was moaning about slow progress following the Huddersfield match (?) I was worried we were following the same pattern from last summer. Let’s see if the Gilchrist deal has ushered in a whole new era of expedience.

Yes, even more reason to have them. Higher pay and all the other shizzle.

Speaking from experience (both agency and internal), this part isn't really true.

He’s from the Nick Blackman school of definitely not smiling when you score

Do we have any forum members who live next to the training ground or work there?

Has Rak Sakyi turned up for training today? Think that will tell us alot about the current state of play.

I’m still feeling positive it will go through because there’s no reports, not even any rumours that the deal will collapse and/or other clubs are showing interest.

Regards the QPR game, expect Cooper to start and Rak-Sakyi to be sub but dependent on the score, be given 20 to 30 minutes replacing Brookes.

There's plenty of wankers about. Quite a few of them on here after a home defeat

#putstinhaton

Just like any union the PFA should be there representing the very best interests of every player.

But as in so many instances in our modern economy we have allowed a 'middle-man' industry to thrive. Parasites.

Can’t really compare the PFA and professional footballers to any other union in this country 🤣

I've been hidden in the dirty kit bin at Shirecliffe since last Friday.

I can associate shirt initials with individual sweat smells. There were two new ones yesterday Coopers (Lynx and Aramis), and a new one (Lynx again and Joop), which I presume is JSR.

I'll report back later, post showers 👍👍

R/S sub ?

Why?

Because managers tend to be cautious and gradually ease new players in.

Think it’s different with a keeper and also it’s a weak area for us, so it makes more sense to bring in Cooper asap.

The performance against PNE was good so Wilder style would be to reward those players by playing the same team. Brooks had a decent game, especially 2nd half so it’s not a disaster even if JRS hasn’t signed in time.

JRS hasn’t played any league matches yet so won’t have 100% fitness wise to play 70 to 90 minutes. Also wingers thrive on confidence, so it makes sense to wait until the QPR players are tired and hopefully we’ll be winning by then so there’s little pressure, this will be an ideal scenario for JRS to make his debut.

Also it’s demoralising for the opposition knowing we have such a talented player sat on the bench ready to come on in the 2nd half.
