To be fair the keeper was a yard off his line when he took the penalty I thought, but not a brilliant penalty. I thought he played ok otherwise, he needs a goal off his arse or summat he's trying too hard.
He wasn't actually, his back leg stayed on the line. Awful penalty and should not have taken it

I was going to say he’s so unlucky, but we paid 23 mill for him , now that’s fucking Lucky 🍀

YOU CANNOT TAKE PENALTY'S.

HONESTLY YOU ARE THE WORSE PENALTY TAKER since Don Givens. (Olli Norwood close 3rd)

Woodward, TK, Duffield, Sharp, Keith Edwards, Ched, missed less between'em??

I am sure you've missed more penalty's than goals scored.

Good idea to let him take the penalty. We were in control at the time and if he scores his confidence shoots way up. He misses, so Wilder picks him up and he goes again. It was not to win the game or tie it to send to, we'll, penalties. He'll feel down but he's not done. He does half the work getting into scoring positions. Needs to do the other half and score.

Had that volley in the first half had hit the back of the net, we would have been talking about it for the rest of the season due to the sheer power of the shot. The boy will come good and convinced he’ll be a huge success this year.

How many league goals are we predicting for him this season then, would set up a poll but fuck knows how to do complicated shit like that?!

He loves to smash the ball as hard as he can doesn't he???

Decent tactic to beat the keeper for pace if it's on target, but really wish he could copy the great finishers (such as Messi) and accurately pass the ball into the net (mcatee was pretty good at this to be fair).

I've been hoping for a few years now that Rian can get his confidence & fitness back and get on a goal spree for the blades!

The lads carrying a monkey on his back at the moment and a little low on confidence . In his general play he’s looking sharp , getting into the right positions but needs to be more composed for the important bit .. scoring . The snap shot in the first half kind of sums things up ,he goes for power , if he be steadies himself and places that either side of the keeper it’s a goal ( yeh I know easier said harder done & instinct and all that ) .
If he manages to stay injury ( another big if ) I’m sure we’ll get a return out of him .
At the moment it will be from the bench which might not be a bad thing for him . Fingers crossed for him & us .. watch this space ⚔️

Can't believe he still gets a game, he plays like someone from another sport giving football a go. Marsh is better option knows where the net is

You don't get the golden boot in an England juniors World Cup winning team and score 10 in 20 on loan in the Championship at 18 years old without talent.
Injuries have robbed him of his career.
👏🏻👏🏻 exactly, i really hope he does well this season

I have no time for Givens, but Jon Matthews was worse. Givens shouldn't have been taking that penalty, but had to when Matthews bottled it.

Perfect game for him to get game time. Good work rate, finishing will come (hopefully) and just really hope no future injuries.

Perfectly happy for him being on the bench, and as back up. Don't really want him to be starting (at this point).

Just pleased we can at least start seeing him on the pitch again

Outside of his finishing I thought he played well, linked up play and won his fair share of headers on the occasional punts up field. Does have a bit of a didzy first prem feel to his goalscoring (or lack of) - on another day he could've/should've had a hattrick tonight

Brewster should take heart from his performance last night. Shake the pen off (he's never been amazing at them) and press on. Loads to be enthused by. Would love to get back to the point where he almost has an arrogance and swagger about him, where he fully backs himself.

Agree with most of that but isn't it a contradiction to say a striker isn't good at penalties.

The same qualities (composure, handling pressure, striking a ball, accuracy) needed to take penalties are the same qualities needed to be a good striker.

Not too bothered that Brewster missed because all strikers miss penalties but I was concerned with the technique.
Just hitting the ball with power towards the middle of goal is type of penalty you'd expect to come from Harry Suttar.

Also the good chance in the 1st half was similar, hit with loads of power but it was almost straight at the keeper.
How about calmly passing the ball into the side netting?

Agree with the others, he does have some talent, thought his workrate and link play was good. Overall he had a decent game, no complaints.
Wouldn't write him off yet.....think he might come good....but it's still a risk if we're pinning our hopes on him.
Think Wilder might bring in another striker as backup. We have Campbell but he's had injuries in the past too.

Right now the best he can hope for is to become the "super sub". He is not replacing Moore right now. Injuries can change everything for him, others not his.

Fantastic movement and speed to make the second goal.
?seriously? Fantastic? Speed? I’m sorry but that really is clutching at straws. Did better than he has for years. Found space. Proper Space, not hiding space. Not waste of space. Proper anticipation space. Space where he could receive a ball in a dangerous position. Went on a run into the danger area for shot or cross. Nothing fantastic or speedy about it. It was as expected for a forward (at last). Delivered the final ball well and got the reward of an own goal. Please don’t go overboard. I know some really want him to be the world beater they thought Wilder had signed, but he’s shown little so far even when fit.

Played well but his finishing is really poor couldn't hit a cows arse with a banjo. Overall game play was good tho.
I’m not sure I agree with this. He’s always been one of the better finishers at the club. He’s fairly unique in that he strikes the ball early. It reminds me of Jermain Defoe. This will mean he might hit some chances too straight when placement might have been the answer - like yesterday - but overall there are benefits to it too. I definitely wouldn’t put him in the category you claim.

It's a shame but he's just not a finisher, he lacks the necessary composure when a chance comes his way.
His personal Xg was 1.39 last night and he got zero. The teams total Xg was 2.28, take Rhians 1.39 off that and it's 0.89 and we still managed to score 4 goals.
That means everyone else is outperforming the chances they got and he's massively underperformed.
He's a striker, not a defender or a midfielder who you wouldn't necessarily expect to finish those chances. He's a striker who you'd definitely expect to do exactly that.
We all want him to be the player we paid all that money for but how many more chances do you give him before you accept the reality of what he is?
