After really going after wilder peed season and ranking him 21 St best manager in championship, predicting us to Finish 9th because of wilder they neglected to even mention our game on their round up of the weekend games

A podcast that focuses solely on championship football and nothing else

I'm not really one to care what the media think of us but this struck me as a bit strange

It has been quite interesting how they’ve somehow dismissed 20 years of management because his Boro team didn’t get off to a flier after they sold two of their better players and he didn’t turn water into wine during 11 games at Watford.

I suppose the thankless turd-polishing gig he took with us last year further allowed them to extend this narrative.

Trying to be objective, which isn’t easy as a fan, but I’m struggling to see a team who has recruited so well this window. Even Shackleton, who I was a little doubtful of, impressed me with his forward thinking against Rotherham. The current targets of Cooper and the Palace lad would only further strengthen the view that this window has been nothing short of excellent.

It must have come as a real disappointment to them that not only has he developed a new system and recruited to it with the precision of a skilled surgeon, but also his new charges put away Championship mainstays, away from home, without really getting out of second gear.

Hopefully Wilder gives them plenty of time to get that humble pie in the oven baking at gas mark 5 in no time!

I thought I must have missed their review of our game and listened a second time before I realized that they didn’t do one.

I normally prioritize their pod and have enjoyed their take on the Championship - listening to it through last season to escape the depression of the Prem.

A shame….

I find it a really interesting modern phenomenon that grown-ups require constant validation on their beliefs/interests/life from external sources. Even more so, when people need the opinions of others before deciding what to think!!

We were excellent on Friday night. Energetic, athletic, front footed. You don't need some podcasts/blogger to give their scores out of 10 to validate that. Trust your own eyes!

I find it particularly fascinating that so many of the people who podcast on Sheff Utd have been so utterly negative about this Summer whereas ever Blades fan I speak to is absolutely positive. It's as if this entire social media/podcast/YouTube Cabal just want to peddle in negativity.

Come on guys, don't be hard of thinking, have you own views. Don't rely on others to validate your opinions.

Good post

But ….

We’re only one game in and played one of the worst Championship sides I have ever seen .

No doubt his recruiting has been good but we still have a very brittle squad imo .

Hopefully that will improve over the next couple of weeks , but we could also see a couple of our star players leaving ?

Tightrope stuff atm

Ps - forgot to add

Fanny

I think it was funny to mock the "can't play overlapping centre backs in the premier league" lot in year one but other than that I couldn't care less what they do or don't say!

That was another narrative that was utter fabrication! If you watched any of our games that season, the over-lapping centre backs played about a 5% role in our success! That season we were more intense, faster, fitter than most opponents week in week out. The following season with COVID, injuries, poor signings and a team that had lost the fire in its belly we were exposed. Nothing to do with the tactical system, yet it's simple for these people to push that narrative as it makes them sound knowledgeable and enables them to form an opinion on Wilder!

But now that narrative is fixed and we/Wilder were a one trick pony that got found out...

The proliferation of these so called experts is staggering. As stupid as it sounds, if look back at the plight of Pompey, formerly of this parish, his story arc is a microcosm of pretty much all these modern 'experts'. Has a nice idea, produces content, initial support, wants more, becomes controversial for the sake of it, peddles negativity, gets embroiled in spats with readers/listeners, last seen shouting at the moon....

I think if he put a strong team out against Hollywood FC. and turned it into a snuff movie…It would give out a statement intent and firstly shut the yappy Welsh cunts up and then silence the growing band of Danny Rohl masturbators on things like Second Tier.

Never listened to it, NTT20 still rate Wilder highly and had us down to finish 5th I think.

Spot on . I prefer to keep a low profile and keep my thoughts to my self .It makes it so much more enjoyable when you succeed and all the fancy teams fail who the so called experts have been tipping to out run us . Even more so when they think we are not worth a mention should give the team even more motivation .

To be fair up to 2 weeks ago our chances were hard to predict. Our 1st 11 was play-off material but our squad was shocking, bottom half standard. So based on what we had 2 weeks ago we were mid table level.

However I predicted we’d be close to the play-offs because I knew there were still more upper Championship level players to come in.

Another major issue was…and I think Benjamin Bloom said this was….yes you might bring in 12 really good new players but new players take time to gel and they don’t all reproduce their best form.

Last season the players were low of confidence and looked lost. This season we’re showing signs of being structured and well drilled again. Seems like Wilder might have got his mojo back and is working his magic. No one would have predicted that Wilder still has it as a top level manager who can perform miracles.

Oh fuck. Off you've deliberately missed the point

Controversy gets clicks and views. You only need to look at the titles of videos to see this. Talksport being an example... "slams" "clashes" "hits out" "rants"

It's all clickbait. The conversations behind these videos aren't anywhere as bad as they make them out, but they get the clicks and they have the ads etc.

Money money money

They run a semi-professional podcast but they don't know what they're talking about.

I used to listen to it when we were at our peak and I was loving hearing as many positive things about us as possible...! But I stopped listening to it at that point because it's a lot like hearing your two friends that never actually watch a match, arguing about who knows more.

They strike me as a talksport esque type podcast, not as negative, but chasing clicks. They can't research every club in massive depth, and so they go for the click heavy stories and narratives that will be popular across the full spectrum of supporters in the championship.

It's probably a compliment they didn't discuss us this week, it would have been completely contradictory to their championship prediction story they ran recently.

100%. It's genuinely totally baffling.

It's like a 4-year-old kid in the park enthusiastically saying, "Look dad, see how fast I can run," before racing to the nearest tree and eagerly looking around to see if you've noticed how amazingly well they've done.

And then they never grow up beyond that point.

Great analogy.... I'm stealing that!!!

There's so many cases of a manager doing better at certain teams & badly at others. You look at David Moyes who failed a few times & then got West Ham into Europe. Mark Robins who didnt really do anything until Coventry. Gareth Southgate was awful at Boro then got England to two finals.

Its difficult to be consistently succesful throughout a 20years of management, I could only really say Pep Guardiola has done that.

The narrative of the podcast & the media is strange when it comes to young managers. Danny Rohl is a genius for battering Plymouth vs Preston were weak, they'll be going down.

Not sure how i've managed to post this twice 😂

I’m quite happy to fly under the radar.

We played well on Friday, however there’s a lot of change in the team of new players along with our academy graduates. It will take time for them to really click, and during that time it will do us good if the attention of the talking heads is elsewhere.

During Wednesday’s match, there were a few times the commentators alluded to them being on the “road back to the Premier League”. Great! Let them have the attention and the pressure that comes with it.

After last season all I want is for United to play exciting, entertaining football, and for the team and staff to feel the same. The success will take care of itself.

Or him. Saying to his dad look dad I can run to this tree
So his dad cuts down The tree chops into firewood and throws all the kids toys on the fire he makes with it

That's what you just did to my thread

It's a pretty terrible podcast. Their initial USP of regularly featuring fans of clubs to provide a bit more nuanced accounts of what's going on at certain club was the only thing that made it remotely worth listening to. Since they don't tend to do that anymore it's just two self-proclaimed championship 'experts' who have extremely surface level knowledge of anything that isn't Derby County.

They go out of their way to say controversial things knowing that they can clip it and stick it on their twitter feed to wind people up and push for more comments/engagement- regardless of if it's a terrible take or not this will always work.

They also contradict themselves constantly. I listened to their season preview whilst out walking the dog and had to pause it at several instances just to double check I'd heard them correctly when making wildly inconsistent statements about clubs and managers.

They're also generally quite thick; (one recurring annoyance has been them pronouncing the P at the end of the word coup), and they've got about as much personality as a wilted spinach leaf- makes for really tedious listening when they're on about their uneventful personal lives.

So why do I listen to it, you ask? I have no fucking clue- maybe I'm a glutton for punishment.

NTT20 is generally much more well informed, but I find the heavy angling around betting and odds puts me off that a bit.

They’re a pair of clueless pricks to be honest, I say this because I went through a period of listening to their gambling show and used to waste £5 every weekend listening to their “tips”

I live in Asia and really look forward to some of the better podcasts to keep up to date on both blades and non-blades stuff. I really like Not the top 20. They really research stuff well and are obviously smart, committed guys. Love BladesPod as well. When I do occasionally listen to regular commentary or ‘insight’ on bbc, itv etc, it always strikes me how shallow and gimicky it is.

Having said that, Second Tier is cringe -worthy most of the time. It’s the podcast equivalent of Ian Wright. I still listen to it because I am sad and starved of football though!

Not The Top 20 podcast is way better. Two presenters who actually know their stuff and don't just go looking for easy engagement on social media.

They even correctly predicted that Lowe would be the first Championship manager to go, I believe! And last season called Ipswich for automatic promotion before a ball was kicked.

If you listen to these idiots you get all you deserve. Wilder at his mecca isn't the same Wilder at Middlesbrough or Watford. We all know that, so let them disrespect him all they want.
