We absolutely need another wide attacking player, ideally 2.

Brooks looks good in the RAM slot, but Hamer looks a bit all over the place in LAM and is clearly best suited to the CAM or a CM spot, which could give Wilder a headache as those slots look to be filled at the moment.

Slimane worked his arse off and did ok when he came on for Hamer, as did Brewster for Brooks, but that line behind the striker could be our strongest asset this season, so we need to strengthen it.

Campbell (if signed) will do a job covering RAM, LAM and CF, but we need another on top of him. I really hope we get this lad over the line.

Definitely need 2 .

I think with Anel, Robbo, Soutar, Trusty and Gilchrist we have enough CB cover for 2 positions, so personally I would prioritise a specialist RB over another CB.

I know Gilchrist looked good tonight, and Siriki did well when he came on, but our only experienced back up there is Shackleton, and he is already out injured. Plus I expect he will need to cover in CM as well.
Back up No 9
Two wide attackers (JRS and Campbell please)
GK (Cooper please)

These four are must haves.

If i was greedy, I’d also like a proper RWB in the mould of Bogle. Gilchrist looks good at RB in a 4 and seems his best position is RCB in a 3. But we don’t have a proper right wing back right now (hopefully Curtis is there in long term).

Whilst I love the fact that we’ve gone to 4231, let’s no pigeon-hole ourselves again. There will be plenty of times when moving to a back 3/5 will be useful and so we’ll need someone a bit like Burrows on the right.

Although we didn’t really have our shooting boots on last night, for the first time in a while I get the feeling we look capable of getting goals from all over the pitch
On another day a few better decisions we score 4/5 goals.

I think we have a few more levels in us yesterday. Nervy first game back no one really sure how we would do. Hopefully we can start to relax a little.

This Preston team finished 9th last season so there by no means mugs that we made them look.

If someone like Sakyi had the positions Brooks did last night he'd have had a field day. Brooks end product, especially shooting, is terrible
How many times have you seen Sakyi? I’ve never seen him play.

Other than Brooks’ poor shot (which deflected off someone and then we scored from it anyway), what else from his output was terrible?

Was it his assist for the first goal? Or the when he skinned about 3 to get to the byline and cut back to Moore in the 6 yard box, who then missed?

I do t think it’s a unreasonable suggestion that the Palace lad may have a bit more about him than Brooks…though he’s already had a loan to Charlton and looks to be getting one to the same league as Brooks.

Where Brooks may falter is consistency, kids can often struggle with that as they learn and adapt, or get a knock and are expected to still play. Same potentially with Blaster.

Other options and the ability to switch it up and change tac would be good, and having the kid around may well also bring Brooks in too.

He might and he has had a loan spell at Charlton, but in league 1. Brooks played 20 games in the Premier League instead. So it’s hard to gauge as things stand, as Jesurun has not yet been exposed to the same quality of opposition.

I hope we do sign him, but this notion that someone we bring in on loan will automatically be better than someone from our own academy, is a bit off-balance and I think a bit disrespectful.

Serikis cameo was excellent when he came on.
Do we really need the lad or put the cash towards a striker.

I think it’s too soon to say much on Brooks. He’s a 20 year old kid who has mostly played adults football for us in one of the worst PL sides in history. He looked good yesterday and hopefully keeps growing. For any talk of end product, he had one assist yesterday and should’ve had another in the second half. I still think we need another option, but not because of any failings Brooks’ part.

We need both.

It's great that Brooks & Seriki excelled / looked competent yesterday, but they're just kids. I wouldn't want to rely on either or them, or Peck over the course of a full Championship season.

Anything they provide us should be looked at as a bonus on top of solid foundations. They shouldn't be the foundations.

Looking at the squad, we're light a starting GK, an attacking RB, a CM that can compete with Souza & Arblaster, 2 wingers & a couple of CFs. We might be able to find some versatile options that cover a couple of those roles, but it's between 5-7 signings.

Not to mention he's changed position from CM (last season) to RW/RAM (this season) which sometimes isn't easy for a young player.

Exactly but I hope we keep them and around the squad because they look like they are on the cusp of stepping up

Moore let Brookes down with his positioning when he was getting behind defence. They’ll sort it.

Yes i thought Brooks had a good game ,i was impressed with him .He laid a chance on for Moore on a plate after beating 3 defenders ,how Moore missed defeats me ,he will not get any better chances than that but it was not Brookes fault that he missed .

Yep. I was pleasantly surprised by Brooks yesterday. But, even if he does go on to have a good champ / Prem career, at 20 yo he’s only going to give us ten good games max before he needs a rest or has a dip. Same with Blaster.

Having both Rak Sakyi and Brooks for that position over a 50 game season is reasonable. Cover for each other’s dips in form or injury and provide a bit of constructive competition. Raj Sakyi looks a bit more skilful and direct, whereas brooks looks a bit more solid and gives us an option in a 3 if we go 5-3-2 for some games.

Brooks playing so well yesterday is excellent news. But doesn’t mean we shouldn’t look to add another in that part of the pitch.

Brooks was very good nice assist and could have done better with his half chances.

He broke forward well, did well defensively was a solid performance from him.

Yes we want to see him take his chances but if he did that’s Mahrez etc. We hope Brooks does well but we aren’t expecting that level.

It was a very good performance and if it is Rak Sayki coming in he better perform as Brookes is more then capable in this league from wide judging on the performance yesterday.

The notion that we don't need to sign x, y or z because of last nights performance is a terrible take.

We have 12/13 players capable of regular first team football to that standard. 1 injury away from a patched up team.

We need signings to ensure that level is maintained no matter what injuries we get.

My worry is that we need more than JRS and Cooper. Got to get a few more after.

Brooks yes.
Seriki I think would benefit from games and he's going to be behind Shackleton & Gilchrist in that position. Possibly even Anel too if there was a real crisis.

As well as the obvious gaps, Moore, Hamer and O Hare were targeted by the opposition to kick them out of the game. Hence Moore being rugby tackled, Callum finishing with an ice bag on his knee and Gus hurrying his passing. Thus back up for those pivotal players is essential as well.

My memories of Brian deane are of a gangly awkward beanpole stepping foot in div 3 and watching him. Grow into a powerhouse of a player ( probably still the best I've ever seen) who top level defenders couldn't deal with
Similar with ndiaye who looked gifted but who again grew from a boy into a man in football terms as he physically and mentally came to. Terms with the professional game
Same for countless others and in life in general you learn more from your failures than your successes get these lads involved exactly how we have been and let's enjoy watching them develop
