Oh dear. It's like two old dears having an argument at Betty's about who's going to pay for the Fat Rascals.

(Lines up a tap in...)

Mail online reports this morning that Weir has refused offer of funds to sign new players.

Weir's response is solely aimed at trying to keep what little remains of the players' confidence. I'd be astounded if there's not two or three loan signings this week.

To be fair, despite it's accuracy being a little to the right of target, it's usually spot on with us.

BUT, it's just going on Weir's quotes. And let's be honest, he's often said that he's not close to signing anyone, and then a new player has come in that same day.

We'll definitely be after at least one new striker and no doubt players for other positions.

Taxi for Weir at this rate. We need players urgently and hopefully this is just Weir trying to mask it from the current players

I'd suggest that parts of the article are taken out of context.

We will see loans coming in.

I'm not suggesting that the article is correct, but there is a chance that Weir thinks that just 6 games isn't enough to make a proper judgement on the players that he has inherited and those that he has signed.

I'm sure that given a chance he will of course want to strengthen, but if he's panicking like many of us, then it's disappointing

We didn't sign any strikers late on in the transfer window.

We bid for both Clarke and Wilson.

We will be loaning at least 1 striker.

If he hasn't identified that our 1st eleven is missing a left back, midfielder, striker and winger then that is disappointing!

Even a 10 year old on footy manager can see where we need players, does anyone really think David Weir doesn't know what is needed ? of course he does and could easily bring in more players. We need players to improve us and build for the future that may take a little longer, when the right type of players become available I'm sure DW will go for them.

Agree with this. I think he's a stubborn character in the Arsene Wenger mould. He doesn't want to go out and spend just because he can. He wants the right player, for the right price.

He's also stubborn with his tactics. He's sticking with 4-2-3-1 whether we like it or not. I do feel that 4-4-2 is a dying formation but to play the new formation we need wingers that are prepared to get up close with the striker to support any hold up play and flick ons in addition to full backs who don't get nose bleeds when they pass the halfway line.

Yes we need a goalscoring striker but for me 2 Derek Geary's would be better. Our full backs are just that - FULL BACK.

Other than Lowton, Walker & Naughton, who else in recent times has bombed down the flank and whipped in a cross?

Where's Vas Borbokis these days!! :D

Does anyone think DW is after the sack?? nice pay off maybe doesn't fancy management after tasting it, would easily get a well paid number 2 job or similar. Just a thought don't want anyone jumping down my throat for it.

I think the games a foot!
What benefit is there of Weir coming out and saying he's going to buy/loan a load of replacements.
Also you say you're desperate for replacements and other teams are going to hold you to ransom.

As for Weirs long term future, far too many knee jerk reactions from Blades fans.
There is simply no patience around Bramall Lane, we are going through a period of change. Change of style, change of formation, change of ethos, change of owner (50% at least).
It's going to take time to settle in.

After seeing his interview after the game on Sky Sports News - he will be bringing in players. Like others have said, his comments have been taken out of context. This comes as a massive shock from the press I know...

It wasn't necessarily what he said in the interview that makes me think that, it was his face. He was visibly livid and I suspect it was his biggest lesson learnt so far. I'd be amazed if we didn't see another centre half brought in along with a striker.

From a few comments in the media, and a couple from certain people on here, I get the impression Loan players are already lined up ready for when the Window re-opens!

DW: Morgs strap that knee up and go grab some training kit.

Morgs: I'm already kitted up Davie pal.

not a bad call actually Swiss
Pity he's retired. We need a player like him right now... In fact we've needed that type of player since, well, we were last in the championship.

We need a real Cnut of a player. When was the last time a player got a red card for doing a Morgs, a Kamara, a Hartfield or a Bradders?

Vas is a coach at AEK Athens where Tri Dellas is the manager.

They are in deeper shit than us in the Greek third tier after going bankrupt !

Both still good enough to play for us now though

Im sure that we will bring in 2 on loan this week. Maybe more in the next month.

Im sure Weir knows what we need. but wont be held to ransom.

hes a stubborn sod. Either that will be his failing, or his strength.

Here is the same Weir quote as reported in The Sheffield Star:-

“The transfer market is not the only answer. Sometimes, you’ve got to look at yourself first.
“It’s not just a matter of bringing in new players. First and foremost you’ve got to ask yourself, what can I do better? How can I improve?"

It's an interesting example of how certain newspapers operate.
The simple removal of two key words puts an entirely different slant on what Weir actually said.

Disagree entirely. We need someone who can control the game in the middle of the park, not someone who'd take football back to the dark ages.

As for your red card question, it's Tony McMahon. Quite how he's not yet been sent off while playing for us I don't understand. Dirty in the Robbie Savage sense of the word.

Dark Ages? Were a soft touch, weve got no guile and you think that a player can control the game in the middle of the park without protection? In Ice hockey they have a role called 'the enforcer' We won't control the game in the middle without more physicality in the side. Just because I want a tougher player in the side doesn't mean that I'm taking the team back to the dark ages... Funnily enough an age which brought some success.

And so on the second point, Tony McMahon is not the answer then because he's not been red carded for us
