Cameron Archer - Quite an achievement

Another play we splash loads of money on (see Brewster and Mcburnie) based on a 15 game hot streak in the divion below which VASTLY inflated all their values

but at the time virtually every Blades was desperate for us to show ambition and sign Brewster, McBurnine and Archer.
It's called ambition, trying to buy players who have just performed really well but of course, they then cost more.

The irony and it was the same with Warnock too, that when ever we make ambitious big money signings they nearly always fail.
Where as under Warnock and Wilder, the cheapo under the radar signings always seem to be surprisingly successful.

That's one crumb of comfort because I reckon in the Summer we will be making about 10 under the radar signings.

Is absolutely useless out of possession but has a goal in him. Another carrying too much weight and cruising through games. He'll be a decent option for someone in the championship

He won't be here in two weeks nor will McAtee and BBD why worry about them?

Agree
And by that logic, why play them?

Results irrelevant, had CW gave Osula, Brewster even One game time and we’d lost 1-3 that would at least show some planning

Maybe let Curtis fill Anel’s ballet shoes

Not sure why he’s rearranging deck chairs on the titanic by bringing on a player who won’t be here in place of one that will
Or replacing a forward with a DM 3-1 down

Strange.

In a season where we have signed Traore, Larouchi, Thomas and Grbic, Cameron Archer has managed to be the worst of the lot.

A simply pathetic and embarrassing performance from him today today - worst I’ve ever seen from a forward. Lazy, slow, getting drawn into the ball and cramping the room we have to play, complete lack of movement in the box, not hitting space, not making an effort at the back post, not challenging for loose balls, not closing down, terrible in possession losing it every time. Completely disinterested.

Don’t let the fucking door hit you on your way out
Can't agree he's been the worst signing at all but don't mind the fact he's going back at all.

We signed him because Villa needed FFP help and we 1) Couldn't afford a permanent signing 2) Left it so late in the day to sell Ndiaye we had to rush something/anything.

He's still inexperienced and I'm not sure he's got a position. There aren't many smaller CFs around. I could see him doing better wide left, similarly to how Hudson-Odoi did today. Cut inside, shoot.

He's certainly shown flashes of good ability in the games where we've been allowed a go on the ball. But he's a young, inexperienced player, on loan at a terrible team. His attitude, application, concentration are hit and miss and he's very reactive rather than proactive making runs 🤷

I was delighted when we signed him, he ripped The Championship a new one last season I thought even in our side he’d get double figures this season.. however he’s been awful..

I put it down him not really wanting to come here in the first place and then finding himself in the middle of a major shit show even more disheartening.

He‘s clearly got weakness‘ still in his game, most notably he is completely one footed, the left is totally for standing on…

I would not be surprised however if he joined Someone like Leicester next season, somewhere he actually might want to be and making a success of it.

Could see Archer as a Vardy replacement

Bad take this. Strikers can miss chances. Especially those with bad runs. Not his biggest fan but still not even our worst striker signing this year.

grbic is crap and laruoucu hardly gets a sniff with both RND and lowe injured

That’s the fucking basic fundamental action of being a centre forward. Go and tell Billy Sharp that.

No….they do it for short periods very well in teams who look after the ball. That’s the point, not chasing about, having to help defenders for 75% of the match if you want them to be alert and in the right place to convert chances. Doing doggies is pointless if isolated, you’re just running for the sake of it, waste of energy and playing into the opponents hands at this level.

Aimlessly running side to side to shut down angles for defenders is great if you have the rest of the team pushing up onto them as well. We are more often than not within 10 yards of the 18 yard box under the coach.

Interesting too that ability to do those hard miles will often depend on the type of striker: those with explosive pace and the fast twitch muscles won’t have the stamina and physique to run all day like a midfielder might.
So expecting them to is pointless, strikers who lack pace maybe can but it’s fair to say Archer isn’t one of them.

Worst ever performance from a forward??? Didn’t see Craig Beattie at Wembley then, or any of the Connor Sammon masterclasses?

when archer was with us last season, he didnt miss a chance i dont think, really clinical for us. but he did have glaring weaknesses, like he is terrible with his back to goal and cant stand up to a physical cb. hes a box player, a poacher. if he's in a dominant team he'll score all the time. i'd have him back next season but he wouldnt be first choice now, Latte Lath is a much better than him, defenders nightmare him. hopefully we keep him and you will see for yourself. he'll get 30 next season if he stays fit. missed half of this season and still managed 18.

Was he a Wilder signing?

My understanding (from this forum) is that if we are relegated (which has now happened) villa have to buy him back and there is an agreed fee in place for that.

From what I have seen this season, villa won't want him back and he isn't (yet) PL standard. How much would we pay for him for next season? Would people want him on loan?

He clearly has something about him

Not for me, some of the games I didn't even know he was on the pitch till they took him off! Idle an uninterested.
