Morning All,

I know its been mentioned a while ago in the 'Down memory lane' thread, (and yes I maybe should get out more as has been mentioned), so forgive the shameless plug, but:

Just to let all the Blades who are interested in programme collecting know, that there is an Online programme Reference guide for Blades fans at:

The site is purely for reference purposes only, no item is for sale.

http://www.flickr.com/photos/sharrowblade/sets/

The site is always ongoing and is continually being updated daily.

The site has over 650 pre war programme covers and in all, there are over 200 sets, which include every season since 1897, the Reserves since 1946, FA Youth Cup games, Schoolboy matches, Friendlies (first team and reserves) , Other matches at the Lane, and many others.

Any questions or comments welcomed.

Indeed - great stuff, but I have noticed a couple of gaps:

1. There was a club yearbook for 86-87 (which I have)
2. There was as set of trading cards from 73-74 (McAlistair, Badger, Hemsley, MacKenzie, Colquhoun, Eddy, Woodward, Salmons, Dearden, Currie, Bone) which I collected as a 7 year old and which are at my parents somewhere

Glad to be of service :-)

It is a reference for programmes not club year books and cards otherwise there would be lots of gaps if we were counting all the crap ever produced with Sheffield United printed on it.

There is a section for club yearbooks and trading cards. Look at page 3.

Excellent site, although there are a few handbooks missing. I do keep a record of what books have been produced by the club, so will probably email the website with my info. Off the top of my head there was possibly 2 promotion handbooks in 1939, supporters' club handbooks for 67-68 & 68-69, handbooks in 59-60 & i think 60-61.
The 86-87 one had a photo of John Burridge on the cover.

That's the one.

There was also a diary/yearbook produced around 1982-83, had a plain red cover and had a few photographs in it of the promotion winning season including a few of the last match at Darlington. I've got one somewhere, might try and look it out.

This is excellent stuff. Good work.

I have a big ish collection nothing on the scale of some I know, but I try and look at increasing my collection from time to time.

Are you thinking of the one they brought out at the start of the 83-84 season? I can't recall one the previous season.

Cheers lads, for all the kind comments.

Originally, the idea was to produce something that United collectors and fans could use as a reference guide for post war 1st team programmes and games. Home and Away.

This still remains the main focal point of the site.

Then I decided to try to introduce the Reserves, possibly against my better judgement, but hey ho. (Some dates from the 70s, I still can't be sure off)

Being online also has the advantage that it can continually be kept up to date. There is infomation missing and gradually I'm trying to get that part up to speed.

The schoolboy stuff is always popular, people like to see who 'made it' and who didn't sadly, and some of the 50s ones, show the school they played for. There are a number of games missing there.

In regards to the other sections, there are of course many missing. Cigarette cards, trading cards, tickets (Season and match), books, handbooks, dairy's, cricket at the Lane, newspapers, gnomes, etc etc. The scope is unlimited, but at least people will have some idea what there is out there.

These were never intended to be included to begin with, and currently, they comprise of what I've got knocking about my office, and a few images that have been kindly sent to me.

I would have done badges but I don't collect them. Sorry.

There are other sections of United stuff. For example, I'm missing about a dozen games from the first 10 years of the Academy, home and away. Thats a lot of single sheets, U17s and U19s, before they went to U18s. That's not to mention the hundreds of first team, teamsheets in the corner. Eventually, one day maybe......

If anyone has something I haven't included, then let me know if you can provide a scan.

Any help would be appreciated

Cheers, UTB, sharrowblade

Excellent website - I particularly like those few towards the end of the 2012/13 set.

There's some real good stuff there.

I've often thought of putting together a site for results, stats etc based on United but wouldn't have a clue where to even start!!

Superb stuff sharrow.

Will definitely dip in and out of that during quiet times at work....I mean home. Really good stuff and sent on to my Uncles whom it will bring back some great memories.

Been keeping an eye from afar for a while Sharrowblade, cracking work, we've started looking at our collection and I originally had ideas on something similar, but we simply don't have the time to dedicate to something like that.

I trust you've got a local backup of your work, you're brave relying on a third party like Flickr :), I'd have to host it myself.

It's already here when I get the new revision of the Player Ratings System* up and running and populated.

The idea is to extend the system beyond simply aggregating people's ratings and to provide extended info on the players, matches and everything that goes with them.

Ratings will have a cut off of beginning from this season, in the interests of quality, but the other stats, players, results etc can now be stored within the system as I've improved the way it handles historic data.

* Kinda needs a new name really, given it's multi-purpose.

You know who to come to for data input :D

what sharrowblade put

Excellent stuff mate. So many memories from the seventies (wish I'd kept my programmes) and thereafter down here in the southern counties.

I have a collection of programmes here. Message me your email and I'll get round to telling you what I have, and will happily donate.

Regards

I have a suggestion.

The First complete record book was, indeed, a complete record up until the end of season 1998-99. The most recent book that came out last year wasn't, as it included only scant details of friendly games etc whereas the first book had included full line ups etc.

My suggestion is that, as an appendage to this site we have a full complete record since season 1999-2000 and keep it updated. I am quite happy to type in all the detail (lets be honest, I would enjoy it) and having kept full details of friendly games I have the info to do it.

However, being a complete techical ignoramus, you would have to tell me exactly what to do (ooh-er missus) computer wise.

If that piques your interest at all, send me a PM!

I'd be interested in this as well.

Some people have asked about the 'Down Memory Lane' thread.

I'm just taking a break for a bit to revamp the Online guide for the programmes.

www.flickr.com/photos/sharrowblade/albums/72157667960651093

Certain sections need tidying up and getting up to date, Reserve team scores, non 1st team friendlies, and representative games at the Lane etc etc and 1 or 2 new albums need creating such as Postponed issues etc.

PS if anyone has anything from Clifton All Whites v United in the 'Futures' from last season then let me know. :(

Thank you to everyone whose had a look from time to time.

Nearly 1.4 million views so far.

If you want somewhere safer than Flickr, might fit well with a project I've got on the to-do list...
