Of the sorry bunch it appears that Southgate is the only choice you can remotely describe as anything progressive.
Everything else is tarnished with failure, Blades or otherwise, or inexperienced to the point of irresponsible or a retrograde step.
So, Southgate fits a particular bill:
IF he can persuade some decent youngsters (as
IOM Blade states) to come on loan and get some proper games
IF he is allowed to do that within the current wage structure.
IF he is prepared to put up with all the shit that will come his way and he gets time to sort it.
IF he gets someone with balls into the midfield.
IF he gets some pace out wide to create opportunities for the strikers.
I am not convinced that our academy lads are good enough to fill the team with.
Two or three at a push every year but not the half a dozen or more it would need to shake up this lot.
