How do you know it wasnt checked for a pen? He doesnt check for a pen, VAR check for a pen and if they think theres a possible penalty they will let the ref know who will then check the replays
 
The first pen the guy straight out dived a good couple of seconds after contact with our player nowhere near him when he fell. The ref proper fell for that.

Today's match has made me fall out of love with pro football now. Due 100% to the poor officiating. Its all anybody talks about and nothing is done.

VAR has killed the game, its a complete farce.

We've always had bad refs, but the last few years, wow its been bad. We're told to respect refs constantly. How? You have to earn respect. I think its fixed. Its got to be. The ref was patting their players on the back, he really was! Are they not meant to be impartial?
 
Basically an entertaining game ruined by football rules, var and referees not being fit for purpose( in that order). The rules are ridiculous re off sides. If it takes that long to decide a goal was on side it shouldn't have been checked in the first place.
I can't remember a game recently where so many players went down feigning injury - then immediately jumping up and carrying on as though nothing was wrong. Banging the ground with their fist. It's pathetic. Rant over!

To be fair you're right, he should have awarded a pen and then let var check afterwards

Re = 'The foul on Osula that wasn't checked for a pen' - the one just after we scored where the defender kicked his back leg/ ankle, I def thought it should be looked at. And based on his performance today i do think he would have given it if it had happened to a Brighton player
 
The 1st penalty was soft, the player ran 5 foot before falling down, but bogle gave the ref a question to ask himself, so although soft it's the old, I've seen them given, the second pen was a stonewall, so in hindsight the ref was ok, he let play continue even when I thought a few times we got away with a few fouls and we came away with the ball.
My biggest gripe was the VAR team they took an absolute age looking at offsides when it was clear they were on

Nobody, throughout this entire thread has said the ref was shit because he’s Asian. It has been suggested, on more than one occasion, that he has been promoted or fast tracked to the EPL, beyond his ability as a result of the PGMOLs well documented positive discrimination policy, which seeks to increase the number of minor ethnic match officials. A policy which hopefully will encourage people from the same communites, to aspire to become match officials.

That is surely an accurate and legitimate observation, it’s not in any way motivated by racism?

To reiterate the referee was shit, not because he was Asian, but because he has been prematurely promoted above his ability and experience.

And he really was Shit.

Thought he was very biased but the penalties were correct. He let them get away with a lot more than he did us. But it didn’t affect the score line.

If we lose 0-1 to a dodgy ref call then fine

But when you shoot yourselves in the foot with what I called out in my original post, the an old saying springs to mind

He didn't say we lost because of him
The ref was shit and so were we well spotted
