As a counter example I give you Dave Bassett. He took Wimbledon from the 4th to the 1st on misiscule attendances and did rather well at United.

Haslam's style was to play on the floor (I liked the style and thought we would get promotion easily in 1978-79 season) but it didnt work for us and we got relegated. In 1979-80 I thought with the skill we had in the squad would get us out of the 3rd division. We finished in 12th place and Wendy playing long ball style went up. Thought again we would get promotion in 1980-81 but I was wrong again! When Bassett took over in 1988 I was really worried that we would play long ball but Bassett said that we wouldnt. We got relegated. During the 1988 close season Bassett got his squad to watch videos of why long ball style of play can bring success to the team like it was at Watford under Graham Taylor etc) and said Liverpool do use this tactic at times. We got promotion in successive seasons. I dont think Johnson's style would get us out of this tinpot division. I am not a lover of long ball but remembering Jack Charlton saying that the best way to get out of the 3rd division is to have a big man at the back and a big man up front and I think he is right

As mentioned at the time, it's hard to argue against the fact that he seemed to be fighting a losing battle on all fronts but could he have got the 4 wins and a draw / 5 wins that would have taken us up ? Possibly not but still a ridiculously timed decision.

from what ive heard Wilson made a bad mistake involving a senior figure after the Brentford game and virtually signed his own P45 ,but the senior figure should not have got involved and been a bigger man.

His football style is similar to Danny Wilson's. Yeovil passed a lot in the games against us this season and last. They took their chances better than us in two of the 6 games. When teams play against us in this division and when we pass the ball they play tight and hit us on the break which frustrates us and especially the fans at the Lane. Teams in this division do not show Yeovil the same respect as they do to us so they attack more against Yeovil which suited them (Yeovil). Next season teams will see us as one of the challengers for promotion and they are more likely to frustrate us if we play the passing style. I think it is easier for us to play more football in a higher division as more teams would look to attack us so we can hit them on the break (pace and height up front is important). I cannot see Johnson bringing in quality players (like Furphy did in bringing in 3rd division standard players despite us finishing 6th in 1975)

Fair points, with fair reasoning and opinion - but short on facts for me fella . His football has had 3 teams promoted and one (with tiny resources) on the verge of it, from this division right now and not in a bygone age. It got Bristol City promoted from this division - and it's a style that many are crying out for - in fact it's playing an opposing style that rules a man out with 7 promotions in the eyes of many.

It seems fairly certain that we will appoint a manager with a fraction of the success that GJ has had, and that baffles me. But that's football for you

just a thought if Moyes leaves Everton to replace Fergie 2 of the managers in the top 4 longevity stakes are gone and for probably the first time in history the average length of service for managers (and k jackett 6 years gone too) of all 92 managers will average under 12 months, how weird is that

I agree that you don't put a novice in his place - KM missed the boast with that one by not getting warnock in for last few games, but I disagree with the other. Managers should be like the rest of us and be sacked when they are failing, regardless of when it is. By saying Wilson should of stayed for the last few games is just like putting your head in the sand and pretending everything is OK. I applause KM for taking a chance as with Wilson, it clear we wasn't. The problem was is that KM got the wrong person in.
