I was watching the Fantasy Football Show on Sky the other night and they had Neil Warnock on there. He was talking about his career and answering various questions, and one of them was "have you ever signed a player and then found out soon that he wasn't right for the club" or something to that effect. Anyway, he said yes, he signed someone for Sheffield United and after a couple of training sessions found that he disagreed with his beliefs on football/didn't like his attitude and then sold him without the player playing a game (to a manager Neil didn't like).

I'm just wondering if any of you can identify who he was on about?

Cheers

Wiki says he played 5 times for the club. Warnock said (at least I think he said) that the player in question never made an appearance for him.

I think we got rid of him because his feet were glued to the floor / he was completely shite.

Snails Hayles - Now there was a disappointing player.

UTB

He then went on to have two decent spells at Millwall and Plymouth though.

Definitely Danny Cullip. He said, in his book, that his attitude was ridiculous and he then sent him to Forest where Megson was in charge, claiming that the two should get on well.

I recall in the Warnock fly on the wall show, Cullip being very defensive about a slight criticism Warnock had about him.

NW can be a little poor with his exact recollections (eg in his book saying Wilco De Vogt 'was a full-back' when he was forced to come on in place of Tracey in the BOBL) - it's likely one of Cullip, Horsfield or Hayles, and that they played a handful of times. Less likely to be Hayles given he would have seen plenty of him in the preseason tour, and I seem to recall he's never spoken badly about him (just "one of those things" as to why it didn't work out). I thought Hayles would be ideal, but he was poor in all of those games he played.

Cullip clearly wanted to be captain, and on that documentary came across as a bit of an arse - he played more than the rest though. Horsfield I know little about other than his fairly rubbish appearance in that nightmare QPR game, followed by his total disappearance. Probably him.

You're probably right. Ashley Sestanovic could be another candidate.

Horsfield is my guess too. Blackwell was their manager when he moved to Leeds. Does Warnock 'like' him or not?

Your memory must be pretty bad.

Can you not remember Cullip scoring against Aston Villa when we beat them 3-1 at Bramall Lane in the FA Cup?

I'd go for Hayles, I think he only played one or two games. But the Warnock TV series showed exactly where their ideas differed...

Cullip also scored the header from a corner in our 1-1 draw at Arsenal in the 5th round, which was disallowed for no reason whatsoever...

An incident completely ignored by the halftime tv analysis, which instead preferred to go into forensic detail of the injustice of the wrong Arsenal player getting sent off, when it was Reyes that slapped someone in the face, and not whoever got sent off at all... the perfectly good goal was barely mentioned.

It was Bergkamp who was mistakenly sent off. It was a perfectly good goal from Cullip.
What a great penalty from Andy Gray in the last minute that was...
