This should be a laugh.

I know the Supporters club had their POTY awards last night. I know from looking at Facebook that Flynn got the nod from the Essex branch but not sure about the others.

But who would you say is your player of the season?

I think I'd have to go with the clichéd "boy done good" nod and give it to George Long. He's played behind a defence that look like rabbits in the headlights for stretches of this season and made one or two mistakes himself... but he hasn't hidden and he's proved himself a good shot-stopper.

I think my only criticism is that he needs to shout up a bit so that his defence are fully aware of the consequences should they continue to stitch him up the way they have been doing. I'd have been bloody furious at Collins yesterday if I'd have been him and few clips round the lugholes of guilty parties could work wonders, George.

Collins.

Given our apparent inability to score we are where we are because of a very good defensive record, and despite the odd recent mistake Collins is the main man responsible for that.

Would agree that Long has been good too.

Probably George, and with those same reasons.

Not many of the others have stood out, although Monty deserves a mention, if only for being the Leeds-born horse-faced Zidane.

I would not award it!
Show the players that it has not been good enough!
Yesterday proved that the players can play if they tried (apart from score goals that is - cows arse and banjo came to mind in the first half)
Yesterday certainly brought it home - what have they been doing all year?

Despite yesterday's excellent (but long overdue) performance it's hard to find anyone who deserves the award at the moment. Most of the rare moments of class have come from Kevin Mc - although I think he's been far too inconsistent this season. Collins has probably been our most consistent defender. None of our strikers have done enough really. I think George Long has made too many errors and doesn't command his area well enough - but he's done better recently and I hope that continues.

Hopefully an hero will emerge in the last 4 games....

A bit harsh that after all the clean sheets they've kept. Long will get young player of the season, but one of the back four will win the main award, probably Collins.

It would have to be a defensive player, given how toothless we've been in offence this year, and given our clean sheet record.

For me it has to be George Long.

19 clean sheets (so far) for a keeper in his first season as No 1 is a fantastic acheivement, and especially so given his age.

I am struggling with this one. Going to have to give it Collins although his performances have dipped in the last couple of months (imo)

Would be tempted to go with Long just so it shows that unproven youngsters can be a success at our club just like they are at other clubs.

Unquestionably, Long for me. The lad is a future Premier league goalkeeper.

Staisfying the standard of the manager, same yesterday

I think Long would get young player. It has to be a defender, though if I remember rightly, it rarely is. Collins for me. Runner up.........Kevin Mc probably as he's popular. Wouldn't be my choice, probably Harry for all their clean sheets.

I'd say Long, or maybe even Hill.

I think John Cofie has an outside chance too..........

Cofie.....:)

Hill's not the daftest shout. He's a bit like Collins in that after a very rocky start, he's actually a really dependable defender - and gives the impression he's proud to wear the shirt.

I really like Hill these days. He's one of the few athletes and wholehearted types we have.

Whenever he addresses the ball he's the absolute study of concentration, yet he somehow shanks it every time. You have to smile.

The bloke next to me on the Kop yesterday had the cheek to call Hill "lazy". Unbelievable - he's had an excellent season, and is probably one of the most hard-working players in the team.

Aye, he'll win no awards for going forward...:)

I don't buy it that it's about player effort. It's about application, and instruction from the management. The fullbacks never got forward for a reason. Flynn was allowed to keep cutting back and passing backwards for a reason.

The tempo of the game is dictated by the Manager.

Have to agree that Hill has improved alot this season and has become a dependable member of the team. Also is good with the younger players always ready to have a word and pass on advice and encouragement but for me it has to be Long made some great saves and growing in stature every game
