i've looked at the average points per game for the top six teams so far & re-calculated this agains the 46 games till season ends - i have the table finishing like this
DONCASTER 84 POINTS
SUFC 81
BRENTFORD 81
B/MOUTH 80
SWINDON 76
YEOVIL 76
we actually get 0.9 of a point more than brentford but rounded up/down accordingly,so i have us promoted on our better goal difference.
we live in hope!

Don't wish to be pedantic but I hope your maths is better than your spelling :-)

Miles out, we'll get 82/83

It's as much about form and momentum at this stage of the season and based on form over the last 6 games, it would finish up like this;

Donny 83 (rounded down)
Bournemouth 83
Blades 80 (rounded up)
Brentford 79

Whichever way you look at it, your original point stands

A few more interesting stats (some of which explain why it's been such an exciting season !)

We've kept 19 clean sheets in the league, almost 50% of games.

We've failed to score more than 1 goal in exactly 2/3rds of our games.

We've scored 1st in 23 games, 17 of which we've won.

All points to one thing, get that all important 1st goal in 4 or 5 of the remaining games and we should be on our way.

I posted something a bit back about our record number of clean sheets in a season, but I now can't remember what I posted! Can anyone find it for me?

yes my maths is better than my english although in this instance ' eek 'was used to convey my surprise. no offence taken but trust i will endeavour to check my grammar next time for all those that may not understand said thread

yep, I got the same calculations.

6 is a pretty small sample size. Extend that and things change a lot, especially with Bournemouth losing 4 on the bounce before this latest resurgence*. However if you take the average points from when Howe took over (since 12th October they have P 31 W 20 D 5 L 6 meaning an average points of 2.09 per game**) they would finish on 81.3 points (exactly the same as us). Squeeky bum time indeed!!?

It is going to mighty close. I would be very surprised if it did not go down to the last day and I suspect us, Brentford and Bournemouth will all be in with a chance of going up automatic at 3pm on 27th of April.

* If you took their points from the last 8 games (won 5 lost 3 - giving them a 1.875 per game) then they would get 7.5 points from the next 4 games and end up with 80.5 points. If you extend that any further then they would drop further below us (and Brentford).
** They were 21st in the league when Howe took over, meaning it would be an incredible achievement if they do hang on to that 2nd spot. Some pointless analysis of mine showed that after 11 games Preston were 20th and went on to win it and also Bolton were 17th and got automatic. It would be simply brilliant management if Howe did get them to finish top 2.

Bournemouth's last 25 matches have been as follows:-
5 wins
5 games without a win
5 wins
5 defeats
5 wins

Basically, they're due a bad run ;)

A 6 game form guide is too shallow to base results on, its like saying we drew at home 0-0 so we cant go up now , which is equally uninformed. As has been pointed out Bournemouth,s form is really erratic , 3 weeks ago theyd have done well to make the play offs on the previous 6 game form,
Funny how missing 2 games as created such panic , had we won 1 and lost 1 wed not have all this garbage written
as wed be 1 point adrift with a home game in hand of bournemouth

Followed by a right spanking next season if we buy as many 'quality players' as we have the last two close seasons
FFS ...no point getting promoted then is there?

ever thought we might bring some better players in next season if we go up. What 'quality' players did you expect us to get in league 1 ? Maybe Kitson? McMahon? Miller?Murphy ? ......errrr hang on .......

Go on then Bartman, tell me what makes you think that all of a sudden McCabe would fund a few decent signings should the unthinkable happen? Fucking hell, have you been cocooned in a glass jar for the last 10 years while that bastard ripped the heart out of the club, got rid of all that was decent and replaced it with shite?

The mans track record speaks for itself, you made mention of the "class players" that he's invested in to get us out of this shit heap of a league, we've really turned a corner since these beauties came in haven't we? Doesn't that speak volumes for the mans commitment and knowledge/interest in the playing side of his business venture?

Rah rah rah, the Blades are going up, and when we do King Kev will save the day yet again because he's 100% Blade, he sets every transfer window alight with his endless MASSIVE signings and before you know it we'll be in Europe in 5 years. Gullible? FFS

If Bournemouth are to get automatic, they will have to win their last 4 games. That would give them 85. So, we should definitley require 85 or above. However, winning their last 4 games would mean them winning 9 consecutive games. That is not impossible, especially as those games are all against mid table teams with nowt to play for. But, it is a big ask really, isn't it?

But 85 seems to be the figure we need. Those 6 points we have had out of Bournemouth could be so massive come April 27th.

Do you really want me to tear this post apart or do you want a re-think

I'll give you a few starters

1. where did i mention 'class' players
2. who mentioned 'King Kev' or indeed McCabe
3. Where did I mention 'massive ' signings

If you read the post i was replying to,I was responding to someone who was moaning that we would be 'spanked' if we got promoted and implying the lack of quality players signed in recent seasons. I was pointing out for league one, they were .quality ' signings.

If you are going to 'have a pop' at least read the posts correctly

As for The Blades going up ? Of course we are ;)

if they drop points in just one of the last 4 games,5 wins should see us in the autos. (provided one of the wins is against Brentford and the bees drop points in another game). Trouble is I can see Bournemouth winning the last 4

I'd have preferred you to "tear my post apart", that'd have made me smile. No need to re-read your post though because I understood it fully, and disagreed with the majority of it, especially the bit where you think we have quality players, even at this level I think you're wrong.

If we do go up, as I really hope we do, I fear there will be a spanking or two because the current squad's piss poor and McCabe isn't bothered.

Are you seriously saying that players like Kitson, McMahon and the others mentioned aren't quality League 1 signings ? Whether they are being used correctly in the team is another issue but I think you are clearly wrong on this one.

However,i totally agree the squad is awful for the Championship, but we aren't there yet so I'd rather we worry about that if we are promoted . I don't agree about McCabe not being bothered,i just don't think he has a clue what to do next and is aware that most fans know that his shit decision making over the last 6 years or so has caused the demise of out club. I don't think anyone trusts him to get any decision right

name any club thats not been in the prem in the last 24 months that spent more than a million on one player, unless its sold one for 5 million or more

like all clubs , including the piggies across the city , all theyve spent is the extra tv income for being on sky a few more times , pigs have spent under 2 million on all their buys and drafted in 6 loans , and are still in danger of a quick return
Once again our best buy , miller has succumbed to injury, we are hardly the luckiest club in the world , starting with our first ever 1million pound player lasting only 20 minutes, think that stopped us investing for years
How do you think Forest fans feel they won 2 european cups and ended up in division 3

I really don't give a shit how Scabs feel, I'm just bothered about us. I'm sick of hearing about how unlucky we are, that and "the fans not getting behind the lads" are the two biggest bags of bollocks there are. McCabe has pots of cash, he's watched the FOOTBALL team crumble, my gripe's there. Simples.

You'll have noticed a glaring difference between us on one side of that equation?

Does anybody know if my Grandma had a penis then would she still be my Grandma?

My bum has stopped squeaking, and is now openly lettings torrents of brown stuff out.

We know we will limp home & loose the last match. That will either see us consigned to the play offs or loose out all together.
