James McAtee

Apparently Wolves in for both and using Nunez as bait.....I hope their great time at the Blades and Sunday's scare for citeh at the Lane may make them want to come back to BDTBL. We have shown them that they might not be mired in a relegation battle now.

It’s still a big risk for Wolves to take both, I get we all saw last season and think they both can make the step up etc but wolves need to find players who can ensure they stay up

McAtee makes sense as a Wolves target, but thought they'd be aiming higher than Doyle given the calibre of the players they've lost.

If he wants to come here then surely City will see it as the best option? He’ll be seeing it a chance to prove himself in a Prem team that he’s very familiar with.

Devils advocate however, maybe they see him needing more of a challenge so send him somewhere where he’s less comfortable.

I mentioned elsewhere that this was my biggest worry.

Palmer has served his apprenticeship on City's bench for a season whereas McAtee hasn't.
Palmer has also made the most noise internally about not receiving sufficient game time so I suspect he'll be at the front of the queue for a move.

I can't see us being top of Palmer's list in the same way we (possibly) are with McAtee.

Does it mean they’d be willing to sell one, too, though? So they could both leave? However we can only afford a loan, so I’m worried this won’t end well for us

I think we'd be at the front of any queue for either on loan to be honest.

Mcatee to Leicester is the obvious choice unless Man City want to see how he performs under pressure each week.

sending him to Leicester is pointless for city and player. Been there, done that and excelled

Next move is surely PL to see how he gets on. Though they might want him at a better side than ours

There is an argument for high level European football with Ajax but again it’s not the same level of competition as the PL.

I’m beginning to think that McAtee won’t be coming here. Citeh might want him to be in a more possession-based team.

Tommy Doyle might still be worth one of our loan slots though. Maybe as a loan to buy if we stay up. I could see him operating as part of the double pivot with Souza with Hamer pushed further forward…or alternatively mebbe as an attacking mid alongside Hamer.

Might be a realistic option…🤷‍♂️

If I was McAtee I'd go to Sheffield United. He can travel each day and gets to sleep in his own bed - he has such a youthful look I'm assuming he still lives at home and his mum puts his clothes out for him each morning. Wolverhampton is a shit hole and he doesn't want to be Amsterdam what with all "those" distractions I can tell you.

Pep has already said Palmer isn’t leaving on loan. He said he either accepts his position or leaves permanently

I'm sure City would prefer Ajax as destination for McAtee. A big European club that plays possession football and will also play in Europe albeit not the Champions League.
Depends on playing time though, will he get that at Ajax? I genuinely don’t know but he’s pretty certain to get it with us.

Prediction time - Palmer stays at Man C or is sold (West Ham or Brighton), McAtee goes to Wolves or Ajax, Doyle to Utd on loan

Not ideal as Utd would still lack creativity (either Hamer or Doyle would have to play further forward) but at least central midfield would be stacked (for the first time in years!)

They sold several players this summer. They could see McAtee as replacement for Kudus. I think he's good enough to make their team tbh.

I'm still hopeful, but I'm getting more an more pessimistic the more I think about it.

Ajax could end up with three of our targets this window then!
Who'd have thunk it, little old us vying with the mighty Ajax for player's signatures :)

Great point BP - we were missing out on players with them preferring to go to Peterborough only a few years ago

I know we have an existing relationship with City Group and I'm sure there's some good will at their end.
But ultimately City will look after themselves before us. Most media chatter is that they want to develop McAtee by loaning him to a club that play a possession based style system similar to theirs. Which makes sense.
And Cole Palmer will have a queue of clubs higher up the food chain that will be sniffing around him ahead of us.

I can see T-Blade has liked your post though and he seems to have inside knowledge so would be intrigued to know his thoughts on it...?

in a way i dont think we can lose here mcatee is obviously our number 1 choice but if city dont want him to come here and their not loaning palmer out we will go for plan c i think and go for tommy doyle on loan looks like tomorrow is decision day

Why obvious? He’s just done a year in the Champ, why would they want him to do another, the obvious move would be the next level up, then I’d say in a team he’s gonna get minutes, he’s guaranteed that here, not sure how that would would out for him at wolves and Ajax.

Also can Ajax just fuck off already….. gone to Ajax.

Us or Ajax seem the best two options. Obviously Ajax are a far bigger club and better footballing team. We are the better option for him in the PL, as he knows the place and the staff know him/how to develop him.

I think city would choose ajax but mcatee wants to come back here so depends who gets their way.

Ajax just the signed Akpom and Mikautadze.
Hopefully that means they're covered in that area.
