Be careful what you wish for.

C - When we don't own Bramall lane

Aye, it turned out really badly for Man City didn't it?

You keep repeating this ever so easy to take to pieces argument. Rather than hating everything about us, why not save your energy for where it's deserved?

They said at the AGM that 2 groups had contacted United about investment. They said one was someone with a previous track record in football. I think this was probably Pearson. It looks like it went nowhere which is why he's going public about Leeds. Although Bates has sold up he is still Chairman. I think this is Pearson saying he wants that job.

Don't know what happened with the other approach, I assume that also went nowhere.

Aye, add newly invested into Leeds to that. Southampton don't. Numerous others.

The reality is that most examples are thrown up because the ground has been sold off to avoid financial ruin, not on the road to it. It's not cause and effect.

There are numerous examples that quite clearly prove that owning your ground is not a pre requisite for significant investment.

As ever I'm happy to (really) help those who need it. :)

Well, if I've got you quoting other examples rather than Man Bloody City all the time, my work here is done.

Happy to have (really, really) helped out on this one.;)

The slight difference in Man city's case is they lease the Ethiad from Manchester City council not a property speculator.
In Leeds Utd's case no one really know who owns Elland Rd it was sold to Leeds council with a 25 yr buy back clause to raise some cash, new investment at Leeds ??? where is it ??? Papa Smurf is still chairman, Colin only had a few hundred k to buy players last month and it seems an obscure company in the Virgin isles in fact own Elland Rd, rather than new investors it looks more and more like Bates juggling figures in much the same way as McCabe does.

To be honest, naming the club that finished above EVERY other one ast season sort of wins the argument and means I don't feel the need to try much harder.

Then read metalblade above literally inventing new ways to say why we're shitter than every other club on the planet, and I just know I've won the argument.

Forgetting the McCabe factor why the hell would anyone invest in us unless it was for a quid in? Honestly, what do we have to offer any investor. Big debt and no real assets. Not a problem until you realise we are in league one and need investment in the first team. Money you won't get back. Hence investment is unlikely. I wouldn't invest especially if that pillock wants to remain involved.

I don't know where I have said that ...................... most of my post was about Leeds scum, still if it makes you think you won a prize then happy days, you my friend are deluded. Seems like the louder and more you shout the more you believe your own rubbish.

I remember a little club in West London a few years back but their chairman was called Ken Bates - similar circumstances to us - and then this Russian guy got involved!

Aye, that's right mb. There's only me on this forum that holds you in such low regard, isn't there?

The football club doesn't have a big debt, does it?

Just watched Swansea play QPR off the park. Where did they come from, after being in the doldrums years ago? It's a good job they own their own stadium. Oh wait............

Makes you wonder why that Thai zillionaire invested in Leicester too.........

Goo-on then tell us why McCabe can't attract any investment alco ?

Metal - You might have gathered by now that I am no fan of McCabe. What irks me is when some others who share this feeling (specifically you) are completely blinded by it - in such a way that they see every move, every decision, every performance by the club as a bad one.

I don't know why we can't attract investment. There's a lot wrong. Fans might be rightly disappointed that the ground has been separated from the club and put with the PLC (I've never been overly fussed but I'd rather it wasn't) but it's quite clear, with shit loads of empirical evidence, that owning your own ground is not a pre-requisite for inward investment.

The ground situation is really dependent on the reason behind the transfer, do we trust the reasons why it was done or not?

To make the club better placed for investment - I hope
For the ground to be sold for development , no doubt the council would grant whatever permission needed at the drop of a hat, I make no further comment.

True but if you were thinking of putting a load of cash into SUFC would you want to take on a reported £50m debt, like it or not while McCabe owns the ground he can at any time decide to cash in and get that £50m back leaving any investor in a Rotherham situation of having no home for his football team. McCabe might want to sell the lot but no way are we worth over £50m little wonder there is no queue to invest in part or in whole into SUFC.

The debt, along with the ground, is part of the PLC. McCabe's reasoning (in pubic anyway) is that it's easier to find an investor for a "plain vanilla" football club, with non of the complications of the infrastructure and debt.

As far as I know, the football club doesn't have any debt.

Don't too much about the Millers but wasn't it something to do with the Booth family not Ken himself that caused the rift - If I'm correct here the analogy starts when KM decides he's had enough and the young ones, without any real Blades interest, take over

If we are owned by someone with bad intentions, they can do bad things to us - owning the ground or not. Lots of owners up sticks after owning their own ground. Its something I'd hate - but the separation alone doesn't make it more likely, IMHO.

I agree, we have had our share of "rogues" in the past. However the amounts of monies "owed" make the ground sell off scenario more likely also with the hotel, business centre gone and I understand applications for further development submitted it's a very short journey to developing the remaining rump of the estate
