We didn't know we were losing Ndiaye though. He had 'signed' then changed his mind.
I agree all the business is happening too late, but the worst of it (Illy) is going to be a near impossible one to solve. He gave us something that we won't replicate. It will be by more conventional players, who are in high demand.

That doesn't really explain why we let Ndiaye out without a replacement. He was our player.
As soon as Ndiaye said he wasn't going to sign with us, that was our time to get our ducks in a row.
Instead we've left a massive hole in the squad, playing catch-up in recruitment and clubs know exactly what we have in our pot from sales...

I might get a ban for this, but remember that old saying...

"Arguing with someone on the internet is like racing in the Paralympics. You might win, but you're still a retard!"

Farewell
Nice bit of ableism there mate. Want to call anyone a s**z while you're at it?

I hope he (PH) has considered sticking Trusty in at LCB and Robbo in as LWB. We will lose a bit going forward, but he is less likely to let some
one run by him unchallenged.

Not sure Robinson is mobile enough to play LWB these days - Brennan will make him look as though he's wearing lead boots. I could however see Trusty coming in at LCB this evening to add more pace down that side.

Larouci hasn't done anything to suggest he's much of any upgrade on Lowe - it's certainly a soft spot for Utd. It cost the goal last week and will continue to be a liability until addressed.

1 of a few ITKers.

we have no creativity or goal threat in our team still.
Everyone should lay off the ITKers. It’s just a bit of fun but people seem to think they can be critical and pressure members like Rocket Man and Rifleman, you can’t, it a bit of closed season banter (ok they’re up their own jaxies ;)) . Yes they get titbits and share but we’re probably as up to date as the guys sat in the room negotiating, they can’t give you MOAR than that ffs.

As fo no creativity, exsqueeze me, Harmer hasn’t even pulled a shirt on for us yet and you’ve forgotten how delirious we were this time last week. The we have other MF who are an unknown quantity to us but not to Hecky. Berge was a luxury player back stabbing Ndiaye will be missed by us (and by his new “fans” who appear a tad disappointed in him).

We need Archer or similar, fact, but he’s young, on a 4 year deal proven at Championship level, Villa won’t throw him away with other suitors circling this morning. It’s down to SUFC to decide if we are making a fist of it or not and that is heavily influenced by HRH situation. If we lose tonight and enevitabley to Citteh he will see his negotiating position weaken with 3 game gone and us looking adrift within 2 weeks of season starting.

Gerrim bought if he’s the one, if not get the feckin one in tommora.

Fair shout re Trusty at LWB. I just think any combination of those 2 is likely to be our strongest at the moment.

Agree the left still feels like our weak spot. We have to give Larouci time I think, and hopefully he can get up to the level required. I suppose PH though that he could rely on Lowe's experience in the meantime, but he does seem to switch off too often for me.

What if Marseille threatened to pull out of the deal unless it’s completed by a certain date? What if Ndiaye failed the medical? What if he had a change of heart and decided to stay?

Ndiaye stays and we’ve spent £20m on his replacement! How do we improve the midfield when we’ve blown our budget on a replacement we didn’t need.

I’m no expert on the details of football transfers, but it’s definitely not as simple and straightforward as some of our fans like to think it is.

And that my old mate - sums it all up

Leeds could easily rival several of the prem clubs financially, not sure that makes any of them less serious
Really? Tv money is significant for every single club in the country. Leeds are still getting parachute payments which will help but they lost a lot of players for not much money unlike a Southampton who have lost players but are probably earning roughly the same as last year because of that! Corporate, tickets and sponsorship stuff aside.

I don't know if it will affect his negotiating position.
If the position is we have £x million to spend and no more, then that is that. It's then a case of who you get for that money, not how much a certain player is going to cost

Brewster wasn’t worth £23m. I’d be more worried if the club hadn’t realised that by now, than if they still based valuations on that!

I mean it was an overpay at the time, but it wasn't an obscene overpay (it's not like we paid twice his value or anything stupid like that), and that the actual results we got out of him are a bottom 5-10% of what were reasonable outcomes at the time of purchase does not make it more of an overpay in retrospect

When you think about it, we’ve caused our own problem by helping set the market price for championship strikers. I refuse to believ that Villa would be asking for £20m if we hadn’t spent £23m on Brewster or £18m on mcburnie

Football insider reporting Villa want £20m
Absolutely not a chance. Seems to me they're quite happy to hold on to him unless someone will pay over the odds, and why not since they've got his contract tied up? If nobody stumps up they'll send him out for another loan on deadline day. Maybe even to us, though I wouldn't bet on it.

Nah Villa themselves set the market price for Championship strikers when they paid 35 million for Watkins.

Has he signed yet?

I hate Archers, The Archers, and Jeffrey Archer, you’re all deceitful cowards.

I've just realised that only applies to archers and Jeffrey Archer, not The Archers which to be fair are a mixed bag.

We’ve definitely helped. £23m for a young English striker who had half a good season
We have but that was the big jump that summer when Villa just plundered the championship no matter the cost you’ve now got midfielders moving for more than we ever paid for a striker.

No problem Marseille. We've just been promoted to the biggest league in the World and want to help ourselves before helping you.

What if Ndiaye failed the medical?

You don't panic sell over highly unlikely scenarios such as this.

What if he had a change of heart and decided to stay?

Great news. We keep our best player and have a go at surviving and convincing him to sign a new deal in the meantime. He'd shown some willingness previously.

You don't have to be an expert to know that you don't sell your best players before you have replacements lined up. It weakens you.
I think we panic bought Hamer too and got lucky with it. I don't believe we agreed anything with Cov before we pushed the button on Berge's exit.

Not to dispute the latest info, but how sure can we be what other clubs have bid and offered to players in terms of packages/terms etc?

Is this info made available to other clubs and by whom? Is it agents involved in the negotiations and if so how reliable is that when they are trying to squeeze as much cash as possible? Or are all offers visible on a system of some sorts?
It’s always made available by the selling club, it drives up the price for other suitors.

Latest developments from the Archer WhatsApp group.

Bettis: Look, this is dragging on. Can we get this done today?

Villa; It’s simple. We want either £20 million for a straight sale or you can have him for £18 but we want a buy-back clause.

Bettis: (laughs). Nice try, you do know who I am?

Villa: That clueless bloke who wastes everyone’s time who claims Sheffield United haven’t got a pot to piss in?

Bettis: But we haven’t….

Villa: We’re not a charity. Either put up or shut up

Bettis: You must think I’m stupid. You’re trying to pull one over me with this buy-back clause. I’m not falling for it.

Villa: But why not? You get Archer on the cheap and we give you money for him in a couple of years.

Bettis: Oh yeah? Well how come we never got a penny from Liverpool for Brewster then?!!!

Villa: Brewster’s shit

Hecky: Brewster’s shit.

Bettis: hmm, ok. Brewster is shit.

Villa: Exactly, whereas Archer is shit hot.

Bettis: Explain this buy-back thing to me then.

Villa: You give us £18 million for Archer and we’ll let you have him for 2 years. He’s all yours. Then after 2 years we’ll take him off you and give you £10 million.

Bettis: £10 million, you’d really do that? That could fund Hecky’s Championship promotion push….

Villa: Yep, we would. You’re so shit and going to get fewer points than Derby that we feel sorry for you.

Bettis: £18 million and £10 million buy back. Ok, done. But wait… our fax machine is bust again. Are you ok if we send our formal offer by post?

Villa: Sure

Bettis: Second class post ok?

Villa: Fine, as long as it reaches us by 31 Aug

Hecky: Steve, what the fuck are you doing? They’re trying to have our pants down and you’re falling for it. We can’t agree to this.

Bettis: Ok, ok, the deal’s off. We’ll give you £15 million for Archer. Take it or leave it.

Villa: We’ll leave it thanks. Leeds and Luton are willing to pay more.

Bettis: As if. £15 million…. or we’ll move on.

Nixon: Want me to put a story out to say The Blades want Piroe?

Bettis: Good idea but can we afford Piroe, Alan?

Nixon: Aye, I’ll say that you’ve agreed a fee with Swansea but that you’ll probably fuck abooot and not get it done before the window closes.

Bettis: Harsh, but fair

Villa: Erm, wrong WhatsApp group?

Nixon: Fuck off ya fuds or I’ll block ye.

Bettis: Ok, we’re not serious about Piroe but we are close to an agreement with another striker. Ex Premier League and England international. He makes Archer looks like Connor Salmon.

Villa: So sign him then

Bettis: We will do, but we want to give you every chance to accept our bid for Archer

Hecky: Wait, who’s this other striker?

Bettis: It’s fine Hecky, it’s fine ;-)

Hecky: Who fucking is he? I need to know?

Rocketman: Why has no one told me and Rifleman?

Rifleman: I already know:

Bettis: 8 rifles ;-)

Rocketman: 4 rifles

Villa: Bullshit. 2 rifles

Hecky: WHO…. THE… FUCK…. is he?

Bettis: You’ll never guess (giggles). Seriously, you need to have more faith in me guys

Hecky: For fucks sake, just tell us

Bettis: Ok, ok. Andy Carroll

Hecky: Andy fucking Carroll???

Villa: Laughs

things definitely aren’t looking good for us. I think it’s a gamble at this point. Either a young loan player who we hope will have a really good season or someone overseas who fits our budget who we hope can be incredible. I don’t think there’s any player who guarantees at least 8 goals and fits our budget

If we’re looking for a young striker on loan then I think Chelsea is the only likely source for that.

I’ve been having a look abroad for likely players that would fit our profile and I think Szymon Wlodarczyk would fit nicely. Only problem is he’s already moved this summer to Sturm Graz in Austria for 2 million and he’s scored twice for them already so we might’ve missed the boat on him.

Surely we should’ve found out what Villa wanted for Archer and if we were willing to pay it before we let Akpom go to Ajax? So now we have no chance of paying £20m for Archer but have also missed out on Hecky’s top target for around £12m. The board are honestly a joke and have completely set us up to fail this season, this is all on them.
