Both were young players known to be one of the hottest English talents in the game.
Both were regular England under 21 internationals and both with a really good record at that level.
Both parent clubs having strong doubts about allowing him to leave due to being so highly rated.....hence the buy back clauses.
Both had just had an impressive season in the Championship on loan...showing that even at their young age they were too good for the Championship.
Both were seen as no brainer...no loss "investment" signings. The view is/ was if you buy them....then they will only get better and their value goes up.
Both had very long protected negotiations where the club (Bettis) received stick for taking so long that we could have lost out.

Of course I want us to buy Archer but anyone who is getting excited saying pay Villa what ever they want and pay Archer whatever he wants
only needs to think back to the Brewster's career since we paid £23.5 million for him, at the time some Blades insisted £23.5 mil was a bargain.

We heard of late interest from other clubs pushing the valuation up although no serious bids seems to be lodged.
We were told we've never be able to get him in our wage budget.

Only key difference is Brewster suffered nasty injury after championship loan and going away with england youth team. I swear to this day Liverpool knew he would never be the same player again.

So as long as Archer doesn't fall down the stairs between now and signing, I think we'll be getting better value

We seem to be getting a bit giddy about Archer .Has not been proven in the prem but he did look good at the Lane last year and God we do need something pretty quick after that showing at the weekend but reserving judgement on the guy .As someone said early we got giddy over Brewster and he has been a disappointment .

Usually has a decent spell around Easter….

Another plus point is his quick recovery time from injury. For us a pulled hamstring takes about 2 years to sort out. This guy actually died & was playing again within a few days

You are thinking like me mate and I am looking for a lift to like most Blades fans .Never known a club to get in the prem and have so much gloom around the place . A good left wing back would give me a boost ,it is obvious we are very weak in that area ,we need RND back sooner rather than later or one on loan .
