[Confirmed] Blackman to Reading - Undisclosed fee

We can spend the transfer money and Blackman's wage. Also Philliskirk (for whaever that was) Apparently there was money available for signings if Blackman had stayed. SO in theory say Philliskirk was £500 per week and Blackman £2k then we have £2.5k per week before the 1.2 million comes into play.

Cheers. I'm trying to gauge what spending power this move has unleashed. I thought we were on the edge of our spending limit given the comments from the club about Gallagher. Then we signed Murphy, which came as a surprise to me at least.

So one more question. Can we use the £1.2m for wages? If not, then I'd imagine the Blackman wage saving would only cover one experienced pro, when we need at least two.

Think it is an excellent bit of business for the club getting rid of Nick Blackman.

Didn't like him, didn't rate him, and i won't miss him sending shots flying to Row Z of the kop when he was better placed to pass to 2 or 3 men.

Wouldn't have lasted 2 minutes under Bassett
There are a number of players that would not have lasted under Bassett Brownie.

There is not a chance on this planet that the undisclosed fee could Not be found out by people within the football fraternity.

I know what you are saying, but if nothing else it introduces an element of doubt, certainly if the teams involved want it to remain undisclosed.

What it also allows though, are managers and agents to put a false figure out in order to suit a particular agenda (i.e. A manager wanting people to think he's got a bargain, or to take pressure off a player).

Reading are a premier league team with an income between £50M and £100M per year. I sincerely doubt anyone there gives a flying fuck if they paid £500K or £2.5M

but they in danger of going down and they are spending money on a L1 striker. We might have accepted over £2million for all we know. The point is that it doesn't matter. What does matter is what happens between now and the end of the deadline because at the moment,it is difficult to see us mounting an attack on Friday let alone score

..and Cofie and McAllister have left.
Besides, we can spend what we want.
Swindon had a transfer embargo imposed. Their Chairman put more money in and the embargo was lifted. No players left.

From how I understand it we can work to 65% of turnover which means 65% of any fee coming in.. From what I was told we were working up to 60% up to Xmas so we had some spare for the second half of the season

Are all these chasing clubs wrong Brownie? The pundits on Radio 5 were discussing what a good buy Reading had made, and how other L1 clubs would be delighted with it. Are they all wrong? At least half of our fans are gutted - are they all wrong?

Who do you rate of who's left?

Well Kevin said there was money available even if Blackman left. The 1.2 million is now added to your turnover so you could in theory spend £85k per week on wages if there were 14 weeks of the season left. add that to Blackman's wage, Philliskirk and the money we already had available before Blackman left.

Unfortunately the club still runs at a lost so I imagine 95% of it will now cover the annual running costs of the club that Kevin has to put in to keep us running.

I just wish he would tell us all that and stop saying we are going for promotion and have ambition.

Putting money in means giving the club money via sponsorship etc, not loans. Now we can't add to the debt, expect nothing.

I hope sincerely I am wrong about tomorrow, however I feel like I have just got to the end of the Usual Suspects film and relized kaiser soze had been fucking pulling the wool over my eyes for 2 hours

That has to raise a wry smile. We save up for January then sell anyway. Oh well.

Still, we've just over 24 hours to save the season. And I'll not be up watching Jim White on Friday night. :)

From our coverage of the fans forum in November (http://www.s24su.com/forum/index.ph...erage-fans-forum-thursday-november-8th.28461/):

Question: Are we too close to the budget that we can't strengthen in January?

Answer: No, but we have to closely manage it so that we have room to play with. We are looking to strengthen the team as much as we can. We're actively scouting young talent, not old has-beens, and we want someone who can come to this club and make us better. We want to bring young, hungry, skillful players in. Not players at the end of their careers.

if no proper signings are made, the atmosphere on friday will be horrendous. probably down to about 15,000 and everybody baying for blood before a ball is kicked. and to be honets, i dont blame them. in my younger years id be in riot mode. im too old for this shit now, if we dont sign any decent players i will probably be in the thousands who decide to stay away. to be honest i may even stay away for the rest of the season, who the hell wants to watch us slide down league one with no players and no hope? we shall see. i have no real confidence we will sign anybody but rubbish nobody else wants.

The problem is i don't rate many players at the minute at the Lane. Kitson is probably our best attacker but i'm hoping that the Blackman money is spent wisely and if we can get Bradley Wright-Phillips that would be a cracking aquisition.

this robson fella seems to fit the "not at the end of his career" criteria then. plus we just got rid of the old man blackman with his walking stack and werthers. glad to see we have a real master plan.

It does look bloody daft but when your experienced leader - that's supposed to be you Mr Doyle - goes completely missing for season, then we do need someone else who fits the bill.

(plus we've signed young Murphy who now looks a direct swap for Blackman)

In contrast I give you Wayne Quinn,Curtis Woodhouse,Jacob Mellis,Jordan Slew,Paul Williams,Michael Tonge(i sure I will think of others given time) where you could argue we robbed the clubs who bought them

Harsh on Quinn, poor kid got injured

Rumour is £1.2m - although that's probably £200k + an extra £1m if Reading win the Champions League

Radio Sheff said bought for less than 6 figures and sold for over 7 figures.

Not bad.................................

murphy was replacement for (pick any of) cofie/miller/cresswell/porter etc when we signed him. it was gonna be one of em on the wing, one of em up front. now we sell blackman, hes a replacement for blackman. isnt that called the old switcheroo?

isnt that called the old switcheroo?

It wasn't really my point. We've lost a 23 year old and gained one. But every team needs experience and ours has gone utterly awol. Doyle's form has been a disaster for us this season, especially in the light of his new contract.

We do need a replacement.

Can you tell me that they rejected bids for him? Genuine question as I really don't know the answer.

Why is it then that if they rejected all the bids for him that they then sold him to a team in the same division?

Perhaps the offer from the club in the same division met his release clause in his contract and those from clubs in higher divisions didn't hoping that the player would want to play in a higher division and tell them he was leaving?

Called negotiation,

yeah ok, i get your point. but then we brought in kitson and higginbum before that who are old codgers. it seems funny we bleat on about bringing in young players, when every other player we sign is over 30.

doyles been crap because we gave him the contract. he doesnt need to try now. incredibly dumb decision, and i said that at the time.
