Back to rhe Chelsea lad the OP named. On paper this is the type of player we should be going for...HOWEVER...its a massive step up from academy and u23 football to the premier league especially at centre back. If he comes he'd be cover at best.

I remember Harry coning into our first team at a lower level and at a young age and doing well but he was a massive physical presence and went on to be a full international. You've got to be really special at that age to make this kind of step up. Many other clubs could sign him amd develop him, we however seem to have very limited funds and anyone we sign needs to be good enough to make an immediate impact not sit and learn the game.

Could play in the middle or the right then. To be honest right now Bash is our cover for both Egan and Anel and despite how good he’s been for us I’m not sure I’d want Bash to be having a long run in the prem if we have an injury or suspension.

We have lived dangerously all this season with scant cover for Anel & Egan - we can't do that in PL - we need at least 1 if not 2 CBs of enough quality to at least have a chance of competing in the PL coz much as I love Bash he is not going to get anywhere near the PL strikers we'll face

No point waiting till we get relegated to the championship to recruit the talent needed to get back up.

Need to do it now while we have that extra pull factor and plan for the future.

The whole point of our recruitment this summer should be to produce a younger squad which will win the Championship in 24/25.
So we need to
Drop the older/poorer ones who are out of contract.
Recruit some younger players whose development is on the rise.
With our budget , we ought to be able to refresh the squad with the quality & mentality to withstand a potential relegation , so that we're not struggling next summer

If he’s playing, he’d replace Egan or Anel, who are two players that aren’t a priority to replace.

The money for Coady would be better invested in other areas of the team.

yeah you could be right maybe gilcrist from chelsea is the more realistic target for centre back cover but do feel we need 2 centre backs to come in along with a keeper at least 2 midfielders possibly 3 lwb and 2 strikers so 8/9 new signings needed imo

Agree. Think this lad would be a very clever signing if we were to go after him. Still developing and a leader. He would be one we could have as a dependable centre half for us for a long time. Brave, strong, good in the air and no slouch. Would be attainable too.

Francis deputised in the middle last match so there is room for cover/competition in that slot plus we need a long term replacement for Bash I could see him getting himself at least on the bench most weeks if he’s decent.

Yeah at 19, surely this is a longer term replacement as opposed to a body to go straight into the 1st team. Less about displacing Egan/Anel, more about quality in depth that can step up when Bash retires and/or Egan moves on or is injured. Think Kyron Gordan upgrade.
